@sandrabkl1 Pros of owning a southern flying squirrel are: They are a cheep pet because their major food source is acorns and pecans. They bond to you if you get them when they are young. Very sweet pet.
Cons are: they are a mess and will chew on anything you allow them to. Their cage can be difficult to clean because they drink little water and their waist is very sticky and hard to wash off. They will bite if handle them rough and they are not for young children. I was 9 when I 1st got one.
Wow it is amazing how well you captured the gliding they did! i have a flying squirrel myself, but i am the 3rd owner and he is 3 or 4 years old. I don't think he will ever be as bonded to me as yours are to you. How wonderful squirrels are :)
absolutely adorable little squirrels, I want to know the name of the group who do the background music in this, I've bookmarked this video just for the music but would like to get the cd of this bluegrass group
I am in the states. It's quite easy to get these. You just have to find a squirrel cave, and sit out in front of it in the full moonlight offering them a ham sandwich. If they take the sandwich, they'll follow you for life.
@jezx21 I know of a few breeders you can get them at. Both of mine were pups that fell out of a tree in my back yard. Helen's little critters is the only one i could find at the moment, i don't know if the other went out of business.
oh man! Great video! One of the best flying squirrel vids out there. I've got a 5 month old female at the moment, had her since she was 6 weeks old! I was worried when i saw her getting slung around in her wheel (just like yours) but when she kept doing it over and over again, it seemed like she was having alot of fun! Flying squirrels are one of the sweetest and most unique pets out there, and I recommend them to anyone who has the time and money to give them a great life!
I agree. they are great... but I'll put extra emphasis on "if you have the TIME to put into them" they do require a lot of attention, and get wild and unruly if you neglect them.
thanks all! they're pretty active as you can see. They're like this ALL the time at night. They also like to tear through the kitchen at night and throw everything on the floor :)
u people are so mean to the squirrels on the first one

they are a blast. We've had some 2nd owned squirrels too. they take time, but usually they grow to be a lot more personable with time and patience.

It never ceases to amaze me how trusting, loyal, inteligent and clever these little critters are. No two are ever the same.

Aww they are soooo cute! I love those little guys. Sadly we cant get them in this country so no chance I could ever have one as a pet.
