    FWD drag racing is lame, not as lame as a FWD Impala SS

    but pretty close. Send the power to the rear wheels like God

    intended and physics dictates to be logical.

  • @OneEyeWonderWeasil you do realize that the Edge 540 not only goes faster than the GeeBee R2, but it is designed for areobatic racing as well as speed. There are other race planes out there which are faster, but its like comparing a drag racer to a formula one car. In their sport, you need to be able to turn as well as go fast.

  • @redghost105 Your an idiot .....the top speed is not 200 .......the trap speed at 1/4th of a mile is 199 MPH that means that 1400HP car is pushing 200 MPH at the end of a quarter of a mile you tardass and even if its max speed was 200MPH you gotta realize that car is only built for running quarter mile drag's not TOP SPEED runs so its gear ratio's are probably REALLY close to maximize torque so it can get going as fast as it possibly can by the end of the drag.     but if the video is saying his top speed was 200 mph in the 1/4, theres no way his time was 7.67

    a previous record from a 2000 horsepower viper got up to 177 in the 1/4 and had a time of 7.99

    if this was going 200+ then the time would be lower than 7.67

  • @redghost105 really depends on the acceleration curve. you would really need to know the speed per foot markers along the way to say for sure. As for your viper example, the Viper has great acceleration off the line, but above 160 ish it really slows down, which is why it topped out at 177, but still got a good time. I would guess that this car is designed similar in that it gets massive acceleration from 0-100 or so, but then quickly tps off leaving the top speed seemingly rather low.

  • You can get any modern day motor to go that fast, upgrade all of the internals and Forced air. Plus strip all of the smog equipment and accessories. Don't see what the wow factor is.

  • @trombonedemon yup nevermind the internal stresses of the components. you really have no idea what went into making this car not only powerful and fast but reliable (for a drag engine anyway). They would go the entire weekend on the same engine sometimes when other teams would be doing repairs or swaps after every run.

  • @ADOPTmeBITCH dedication is good man.. but be realistic. They were backed and fully sponsored by GM. They had an entire team of people who's only job was to make that car go fast, and the gardella family has been racing for many years.

    dedication is good, but give credit where it is due. they had a few million dollars into this race team every season. I doubt any privateer could ever truly be competative at that level.

  • @redghost105 the class they raced in was FWD... it had to reflect the actual drivetrain of the car the body is based on. this was actually an outlaw FWD car.. the engine is mounted longitudenal instead of transverse.

    Besides, you almost never see AWD cars retain AWD when they get into serious competitve drag racing, because AWD cars cannot heat up their slicks, also AWD components take a lot of valuable power from the engine. Most AWD cars in higher drag classes convert to RWD.

  • @johnciv6 woooow I'm not ragging on it at all. i think it's sick. Makes me proud to be a cobalt owner haha. Between this and GM's Time Attack cobalt...the cobalt line really stands out from it's class. And It also shows the world that america can hold it's own against import performance.

  • @osamiax33o block is aluminum, so it was sleeved, sonny bryant crank and I'm unsure of the manufacture for the rods/pistons. the ecotec engines were known for being very reliable for their drag racing days, and a lot of extra rules were passed if you were running an ecotec engine in order to make it more fair to the competition. dry sump oil system, methanol fuel (e85 in some cases), 50-60psi of boost, 4 speed automatic trans, and some of the teams would run with no headgaskets.

  • @Chevyy91 Its a drag car. The gears are setup for 200MPH top speed so they can accelerate quicker. If they regeared it and had a different tranny, itd hit 230-240 I'd bet.

  • Ok everyone that has commented and said this is not a cobalt is stupid!!!!!!!! it clearly states ECOTEC on the vale cover at 31sec. you people must not watch much drag racing most of those cars run 6-7sec 1/4 miles at 200+ mph. this is a link to prove all you wrong 1,400whp on a 2.2 ecotec read it then SHUT THE FUCK UP and go back and jerk off.

  • lol thank you for that I had a N/A 91 Talon that I had runnin 14's with minimal money put into it. I'd put my car at around 160-170 hp when I was done with it. With the power they're getting out of engines these days, not much would surprise me.

    Work on the talon- Plugs, Wires, Tires, K&N filter. removed the honey comb in the intake and took out the A/C and as much weight as I could.  JUST that and I dropped a whole second off the time I got when I bought it

  • Ecotec has everything to do with a cobalt engine, and many other GM products. Take the Clutchmasters civic for example. Its your typical built over the top V-tec honda engine. Oh but that means it has nothing to do with honda... Make some sense, if the engine had nothing to do with a cobalt then why would it say ecotec on the valve cover? and why would it be in a Cobalt....

  • I have a Cobalt and a Mustang GT, Even my Mustang's stock engine can not hold more than 450hp until everything would start to break. You're going to make me believe that there is one single stock internal part or part period common to a Cobalt engine in this car? Besides the valve cover of course...... If so, I would modify my Cobalt rather than race my Mustang.....

  • Again you miss the entire point. Every engine in a drag car is built with aftermarket parts, but i still remains the same Design as its original state, with parts to handle the abuse. The head is still a GM Ecotech Designed head, the block is still a GM block, with added strength. And some of the parts that are on that cobalt are GM Performance parts, which any joe can buy.

    Google it, this is a 2.2 L engine that has been highly modified to put out 1400 HP. I believe there were a couple of stock parts left, but most everything was swapped to handle the power. Also, GM released a build guide for their Ecotec engines that could get you 600+ HP from these engines with some stock parts in it. You do have to replace parts, because the stock motor is only good to about 300 hp. I encourage research, and I'm not making this up.

  • @komputeruser Very true. When I worked for GM, I attended a seminar where they converted a stock Ecotec 2.2L to push 700bhp. Even stock they have bullet proof bottom ends....now control arm bushings....that's another story.

  • @yoyoappled There are 2 2011 5.0 Mustang on Youtube doing 10s. Actually, one is doing 9.97. Both run on stock motor. Upper intake, x-pipes, tuned and 4.10 gears. Over-rated? You know why they have shitty gearing? Because I do 29 mph on the highway with 3.27. With 4.10, I can shave a whole sec on 1/4. Remember, I also have a Cobalt.... It's nothing but a POS econobox.

    There's pitch and roll to take into account, wind speed variations, gusts; keeping track of airspeed and altitude - all at the same time as looking where you're flying.

    In a car, it's simple to just slam on the breaks.

Agreed, flying aircraft is more difficult if you take roll and pitch into account but driving cars with power of that magnitude, you've got MUCH more yaw and accel/decel to deal with than in a plane. In cars, accel too hard, you'll oversteer into a wall. Brake too hard, you'll understeer into a wall. In aircraft, accel too hard, you'll be going faster than the 200kts limit at class D :P... Oh no, we're gonna die! lol. But again, planes are harder..

Its a zo6 that push's between 500 to 600 hp or do you wanna race a honda s2000 with 7000 whp on a bone stock motor. If you yall wanna see the s2000 just hit me up and i will send yall a link for it.

    The Cobalt SS is one of the best buys available right now. Check out C&Ds Lightning Lap 2008. It outperformed the new STi, Evo X MR, Lexus' new IS-F, new S2000, Challenger SRT8, 135i, Mazdaspeed 3, new SRT4, and Elise SC. It came in right behind a C63 AMG..

    So.. Name a car that will beat its numbers for low $20k. Even $30,000 for that matter.

  • So what, do you think I care when the motor isnt going to last 2 years, of abuse. Lets put it this way bud, the LD9 was famous for spontaneously blowing up at a measely 150hp, if you think GM can build (well sorry they didnt build the ecotec series, internationally engineered) an engine that is smaller and produce much more power to last then you have a few cylinders that arent firing.

  • C&D and the January 2009 issue put the Cobat in 3rd place in best overall car, and was actually slower than the mazdaspeed3, which got first place by the way.

  • They didn't use the no lift shift feature because it wasnt fair to the rest of the other cars....they did it to put the MS3 on top based on crappy reviews of interior which i don't know why counts for so much of the car's overall rating....it doesn't matter who's interior is better when im blowing your doors off!

  • Actually it does feature the ecotec motor look it up...its a 2.2 stock block with some forged steel sleves......and dont even say its not cuz an ecotec block is still an ecotec block just like a 350 built motor is still a 350....just cuz you put some different parts in it doesn't make it any less a hemi, or an ecotec or a 350 or whatever.

  • I guess since the interior matter so little, than GM is not going bankrupt, right? The fact is, you cant just make a nice car in an engine, and than make a body that sucks, and an interior that looks as cheap as the base cobalt. I'm on posting on all videos bud, not just the Cobalt SS videos. My speed3 is actually in alot of these videos anyway. On a side not, the DSG is off when C&D reviews the speed3, its all fair bud, just admit it, magazine like the speed3 overall over the Cobalt SS.

  • Ok for one the interior of the ss is no where near as cheap as a base line model granted about the only parts of the interior that DO look cheap is some of the silver painted parts. thats it. The seats look way better then the MS3's. And i don't really care what the magazine has to say because they didn't look at all the facts in the right light...they didnt look at the performance features of all the cars which make a lot bigger difference in the cars overall features

And every review of these cars has claimed that the mazdaspeed3 has the best seats for track days. I didn't say the cobalt ss interior is the base cobalt interior, I said the Cobalt SS interior SHOULD be the base cobalt interior and than work there way up to the cobalt SS. The car is cheap man, admit it. Your own SS boys admit it, you should too.

  • Lol no they are not and no one on my page has said the seats look cheap. they don't feel cheap and they even have strap supports which...cheap seats don't have. Yeah i will admit the older style seats werent that comfortable and were rather cheap but not mine. They are way different from the older SS models. Way more comfortable, better looking and nice n stiff on the sides where you need support for tight cornering.

  • And the other thing you gotta realize is that my car is made in america not japan. The simple fact is that you cant get preimium parts when you are paying premium price without jacking prices way up. So chevy had to cut a few corners to keep the price within reason. Ill admit that right now. But the fact is all your interior came from overseas where labor prices can be kept extremely low to produce a premium product where as mine are made here where labor is expensive

  • So unless they wanted 30K for this car just so they could put in some better grade plastic and some better seats (which i don't have any issues with the comfort or styling of them in any way). The MS3's seats look bland as hell where as mine reflect the color of the car and add to its overall Style. So you have to look at it this way the cheap plastic makes it affordable and keeps it in the same range as your car. They had to do something to stay competitive with jap crap.

  • Never said it was a GREAT american car...but simply more american then yours.....and yes..your seats are bland and bulky looking.....they look like a bunch of blocks of foam were sewn together to form a seat. And what exactly would you call the seats in the cobalt? standard buckets? Dude my seats sport more race style then yours. Do your seats have support straps for the tilt feature so you dont put to much stress on the mechanism when your going 150? Probably not

  • I've hit 150 mph in my speed3, and I think seat support is the last thing I was thinking about at those speeds, I was more concerned with makeing sure I make that c6 vette look retarded. The speed3 have lumbar support, and angle cushion support. Maybe you should seriously take a look at the speed3 seats, I really don't know what you are talking about? It even has support for your balls if you had any.

  • I meant dsc, not dsg. Ford has seemed to step up there quality and overall value of there cars, why can't GM? There new mustang and Taures is a big step up from what they were, and they are priced very competitive.

  • Thats simply because americans ARENT engineering half of the decent "domestic" cars today. Ford is clearly using alot of their R&D from their UK counterparts, which has been from the publics pov a very reliable and trust worthy brand.

  • And the ms3 doesn't come option with DSG that was the GTI that it comes option with as well as the STI's ability to change its power ratio between the front and rear tires....so you leave out vital performance bits you take away from the overall beauty of the car. Thats why the C&D review cant be taken as seriously as you see it. They reviewed only specific parts of the vehicles not all of them. Had they done in depth reviews of them all and all performance features it WOULD be different.

Originally, it was "RICEBURNER" because RICE is a large part of traditional Japanese diet. So to applying the term RICE should be saying the car is Japanese in origin. Just because people have loud mufflers on their Neons doesn't make it less stupid to call them RICE. Rice is a good thing, no matter what your mom says...

    There are Americans out there who would look at a 240sx's internals, SEE an RB, and claim that their V-8 mustangs could beat it, and rebuke it.

    Even a 2.0 RB could beat a 4.6 Mustang on the 1/4 mile.

    I am only talking about those people, not EVERY single Americans.

  • @isntthisacrapysn: A RB20DET 240SX might beat an older 5.0 Mustang{pre-1987}, but not a modern Mustang. Trust me, 200 hp wouldn't do it. But the 300 hp RB26 GT-R would make an example of both. Too bad one of the coolest Japanese sports cars ever made isn't sold in the U.S.

  • Slight weight difference. You are correct about the Red Bull series, it is fantastic. I have 300+ hours in the Extra 300L and it's like a glove. I also have 200 hours in a P-51D which is like a Led Zeppelin concert. 1 is quick (which hurts this old body) 1 is fast (which is healing) both are almost too much fun. peace
