Fine weapons. I have had my PTR for a couple of years now and have never had problem one with it. It has a bit of a kick but it's 7.62. Love the bolt system even if it is tough to squeeze it back together after cleaning. I've heard you don't have to clean it much but I'm obsessive like that. The H k is excellent as well. You can never have enough H k's.
@DangerousD1985 RTG Gun Parts is a great HK site you should check out, I just ordered a complete spare parts kit for my 91, bolt, firing pin, rollers, mainspring, plus a bunch of other springs and parts all for $100 to keep in my gun bag.

@InfidelArmz556 not a problem. if they are ESAPI, they are stand alone plates. you can run them like my set up with a plate carrier. the soft armor panels are for added protection from schrapnel and pistol caliber rounds. the plates will stop anything up to assault rifle cailber on their own.
his stance is perfect he is standing in a perfect isosolis to provide the full front of his plants and leaning into the rifle as taught in cqb so the recoil does not bounce him back and if there is recoil he can balance himself on his heels just like they taught us. if you dont know what i am talking about than you were never there and dont a judge the man the vid is awesome.
@fred7911 thank you fred. i think these kids play too many games and think that a 7.62 recoils like a 22 or something. i doubt any one of the people saying dumb shit on here would even be able to fire this rifle single shot off a bench, let alone a full mag standing. thanks for watching bro

hahahahaha I thought the same thing. Beavis and Butthead shouldn't be around guns. That laugh was just like their's. It's like someone said, "vagina".
the ergo on this rifle starts with size and weight.
it's a large (r) rifle and it's heavy.
i've got some candy ass friends who complain that it's to big to shoot comfortably and that it's a little front heave when you're firing from the unsupported.
if you want the original paddle mag release just go buy one and fab it in. it's not that diffficult. if you can fab in an ak mag release for an sks you can do this one too.
@tapper45 all of those are valid points, but this being a battle rifle i can live with size and weight for a full size round. if it were small and light it would defeat the purpose of the weapon, which is effective mid to long range fire.
@tapper45 from my days in PSD i grew to love the MP5, particularly the MP5SD. i just love a good rolling bolt HK, or any HK for that matter. i will say they are pricey and hard to find accessories for, but the fit and finish is second to none. with FN being a close second in my personal opinion.
@tapper45 ive been looking into an sa58 osw, but i dunno im on the fence with it. im a big fan of the five seven pistol, and use it as my daily carry. i just retired medical out from some ied injuries and just left ak, i was up there at ft. richardson for years and i loved it. truly a beautiful land. well you said you do other "stuff" in country? im looking for a new gig over there if you know anybody looking for some help pm me if u want. yea i could use a new shootin buddy now that im out lol
@DangerousD1985 sa58 osw???!!! awesome weapon!!! no question though, whether to buy a gun or not. the answer is always yes. especially the osw. my buddy zilka bought a five seven and loved it. i haven't shot one though. so you're in mo now? i'm at campbell selling my house, bout ready to go back home to tx. bad timing. check your messages for the job info. later bro.
@tapper45 yea i just got back to MO a few months ago. too bad you arent stayin at campbell for a while, my buddy is in the 502 over there and were gonna be gettin together this summer. i love love loveee my five seven, i call it my hand held assault rifle. i wish i would have had it in iraq instead of that POS M9. where ya at in tx? i was down in denton for a while last year.
Looks like you know how to handle the 308 like a winner. How easy is it to mount a red dot or scope do you know? I was thinking of picking up a 308 before things get crazy. .223 is fun and can do some damage but the 308 with some AP has a place and time too.
well optics, and pretty much any other kind of accessories are fairly hard to find for this rife, and they are pricey. A.R.M.S makes a nice throwmount for an optic that is detachable, but there are no rails or mounting platforms built on the weapon
hows your accuracy on that rifle..i'm strongly considering it; but i get serious mixed reviews ...I've heard everything from 1/2 moa with match ammo-to-3 moa with surplus
the alternative in the dpms sass...but the reliability factor is WAY in favor of the ptr from what ive read
@swordsman3000 on the bench i can sqeeze about 1.5 moa with it. its pretty acurate right out of the box, and sports the nice drum sights. with a match trigger, it could probably be a 1 moa rifle.
i have the extended mag release. the ergo on this rifle is about as good as its going to get with a rolling bolt platform. yes the FN FAL has a better charging handle location, but its mag release and bolt release are in a terrible location. i guess its all personal preference, but i think the ergo on this rifle is just fine, especially considering its a 60+ year design. hope that helped you oout some buddy
I cant say the same, but im gettin their! but luckily I got my brother with his ptr and 40 mags and me with my remington 700 with 150 rounds and another 300 on the ranch I even have a few lil surprises for the zombies hidin behind a couple of inches of steel lol!
DangerousD,first off, thank you fo ryour service. Great video..I'm a big fan of the HK 91 platform, have just bought a PTR 91F. LOVE IT. Have youhad any issues with 'gummy ammo'..i.e, ammo failure to extract due to a gummy residue in the chamber from case lube on the ammo?? Just curious...
nah no malfuntions, just dont use wolf ammo, that shit is garbage and it puts more carbon in your bolt than ive ever seen. thanks for the appreciation
what kind of wolf ammo do you mean dont use. there is that standard wolf ammo and then there is wolf gold which is brass cased and suppose to be better quailty and for hunters. if you could let me know that would be great cause i got like 500 rounds of wolf gold for my PTR-91 lol thanks.
to be honest ive only used that standard stuff. but if the upgraded gold has brass casings, then you should be ok. ive never had a failure to extract with any amma, and ive fired thousands of rounds
Hey whats up I'm ARMY too and just bought a PTR-91. Do tou have any mods done to it? When did you get it and what did you pay if you don't mind me asking.
Do you have to pull back the handle and put it in the recess to release the magazine? I've never owned one so I don't know, but it seems much easier to just put in your new mag and cock it.
no you dont have to pull the charging handle back to release a mag, but to put another mag in you have to in order to chamber another round. there is no bolt catch on g-3 type rifles which kinda pisses me off to be honest but its a small sacrifice for such a tank of a rifle
Oh, for real? That kinda sucks. Well, I already have a FAL so I doubt I'll be getting one of those anytime soon. I mean, if someone were to give me one I wouldn't turn it down but it's not high on my "to get" list right now.
I kinda like where it is, but my reloading style might be different. It is a bit hard to release sometimes though. Maybe it's because I have a crappy CAI. Planning to either sell it or upgrade to DSA parts. Probably the latter, I haven't had too many problems with the rifle, decent accuracy too.
Otacon, something else about G3 patterned weapons (including the MP5, HK33, HK21, etc.) is that you are trained to first lock the bolt back, swap the magazines, then the famous 'HK slap' to reload the firearm. The reason you pull the bolt back and lock it is to clear the firearm of any jams, or to insure that there are no jams. :-)
DangerousD, nice shooting there! I am a huge HK snob myself, so I appreciated this vid ;-). how do you like PTR vs HK?
I know you are trained to do it that way, but I was asking if you absolutely HAVE to. I asked my friend who had one and he said it's not necessary but it's more reliable to do it that way. I prefer the FAL bolt release personally.
ahhh, okay. (I previously responded via Function11; this is my other account. same person! haha)
Well, in that case, your friend is exactly right! And I agree, the FAL bolt release is a lot easier, along with AR-15 patterned rifles. The M16 is easy to reload; drop the magazine, pop in a new one, hit the bolt release. If you look at the rifles though, the M16 was developed about 10 years or more after the G3, as the G3 was based off of the STG-44 (of course, MANY modifications were made!) :-)
ive been an airborne infantryman, and designated marksman for over 5 years in the army and i must say the AR platform is by far more user friendly, but i just couldnt resist a nice battle rifle! lol
@Function11Airsoft sorry i thought i replied to u like a year ago lol. thanks for the compliment. well they are pretty even to be honest. i mean the ptr has a little bit of a cheaper "feel" but truthfully the fit and finish is nearly on par with the hk. especially with an aftermarket trigger job. i also have found hk accessories to work flawlessly on this platform. well i hope this helped some what. thanks for watching!
I just picked up a PTR-91 with an 18" barrell. Haven't got a chance to fire it been busy plus it's cold as hell up here. What do you like most what do you like least? I can tell just by playing with it that it's gonna be hard to miss. The ghost ring in the front makes the sites idiot proof.
its a really good all around mid range rifle. the only complaint i have with it is theres no bolt holp open when the last round is fired. you gotta charge the weapon all over again. yea its not that big of a deal but kinda annoying. another small annoyance is the price of hk accessories......
Right on. Thanks! Have any suggestions on where to get a lot of cheap surplus ammo? Been using AIM surplus they have some decent prices compared to the stores around my area.

i like everything about my hk91's, mp5's and pdw's.
they're just made well, they're reliable and they're accurate.
i love that the 91 IS heavy.
in my opinion it is part of what makes it a great solid rifle.
tapper45 1 year ago
@tapper45 from my days in PSD i grew to love the MP5, particularly the MP5SD. i just love a good rolling bolt HK, or any HK for that matter. i will say they are pricey and hard to find accessories for, but the fit and finish is second to none. with FN being a close second in my personal opinion.

@DangerousD1985
i agree, i have a few dsa fal's.
std, carbine and 2 sbr.
very stout weapons.
mgt is always trying to push the p90 on us for psd, thank god they haven't succeeded yet.
that's 1 fn i don't want to use at work.
too bad we're not local, we'd definitely be out shooting.
are you in ak right now?
i have a buddy that medically retired from campbell around 99 who was previously stationed in ak, he went back thewre around 2000.
tapper45 1 year ago
@tapper45 ive been looking into an sa58 osw, but i dunno im on the fence with it. im a big fan of the five seven pistol, and use it as my daily carry. i just retired medical out from some ied injuries and just left ak, i was up there at ft. richardson for years and i loved it. truly a beautiful land. well you said you do other "stuff" in country? im looking for a new gig over there if you know anybody looking for some help pm me if u want. yea i could use a new shootin buddy now that im out lol

I was thinking of picking up a 308 before things get crazy. .223 is fun and can do some damage but the 308 with some AP has a place and time too.
labartic 2 years ago
well optics, and pretty much any other kind of accessories are fairly hard to find for this rife, and they are pricey. A.R.M.S makes a nice throwmount for an optic that is detachable, but there are no rails or mounting platforms built on the weapon
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
@DangerousD1985
awesome display of handling that recoil
hows your accuracy on that rifle..i'm strongly considering it; but i get serious mixed reviews ...I've heard everything from 1/2 moa with match ammo-to-3 moa with surplus
the alternative in the dpms sass...but the reliability factor is WAY in favor of the ptr from what ive read
thoughts ?
swordsman3000 2 years ago
@swordsman3000 on the bench i can sqeeze about 1.5 moa with it. its pretty acurate right out of the box, and sports the nice drum sights. with a match trigger, it could probably be a 1 moa rifle.

what country is this?

DangerousD1985 2 years ago
My buddy just put a recoil buffer and a comp. on his PTR. the difference is amazing. it really dosnt kick much more than my AR.
Buckbaggums 2 years ago
yea i definitely prefer my ar, but i cant argue with the kenetic energy of that beautiful 7.62 x 51
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
i have the extended mag release. the ergo on this rifle is about as good as its going to get with a rolling bolt platform. yes the FN FAL has a better charging handle location, but its mag release and bolt release are in a terrible location. i guess its all personal preference, but i think the ergo on this rifle is just fine, especially considering its a 60+ year design. hope that helped you oout some buddy
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
close enough to the target are we?

well considering its a 50 meter range.......yea i guess so.

DangerousD1985 2 years ago
DangerousD,first off, thank you fo ryour service. Great video..I'm a big fan of the HK 91 platform, have just bought a PTR 91F. LOVE IT. Have youhad any issues with 'gummy ammo'..i.e, ammo failure to extract due to a gummy residue in the chamber from case lube on the ammo?? Just curious...
txoilfield 2 years ago
nah no malfuntions, just dont use wolf ammo, that shit is garbage and it puts more carbon in your bolt than ive ever seen. thanks for the appreciation
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
what kind of wolf ammo do you mean dont use. there is that standard wolf ammo and then there is wolf gold which is brass cased and suppose to be better quailty and for hunters. if you could let me know that would be great cause i got like 500 rounds of wolf gold for my PTR-91 lol thanks.
chrisrubiks 2 years ago
to be honest ive only used that standard stuff. but if the upgraded gold has brass casings, then you should be ok. ive never had a failure to extract with any amma, and ive fired thousands of rounds

Hey whats up I'm ARMY too and just bought a PTR-91. Do tou have any mods done to it? When did you get it and what did you pay if you don't mind me asking.
NRAGOAL 2 years ago
@NRAGOAL i just realized i hadn't replied to you as i thought i did. sorry about that. i have an ARMS throw mount, trigger job, and m68 cco
DangerousD1985 1 year ago
Just out of curiosity, how is the magazine released? Does the PTR91 have a flap to release the mag or is it push button only like on the CETME?
avtomatsholefa 2 years ago
unfortunately its a buttton. but with a lil breaking in, its not too bad...

Hey now you can be a douchebag to anyone over anything but show some respect to the soldiers
bharlan2002 2 years ago
Do you have to pull back the handle and put it in the recess to release the magazine? I've never owned one so I don't know, but it seems much easier to just put in your new mag and cock it.
Otacon237 2 years ago
no you dont have to pull the charging handle back to release a mag, but to put another mag in you have to in order to chamber another round. there is no bolt catch on g-3 type rifles which kinda pisses me off to be honest but its a small sacrifice for such a tank of a rifle
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
Oh, for real? That kinda sucks. Well, I already have a FAL so I doubt I'll be getting one of those anytime soon. I mean, if someone were to give me one I wouldn't turn it down but it's not high on my "to get" list right now.
Otacon237 2 years ago
i love the fal as an over all rifle i just hate how the bolt release is so awkward to get to
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
I kinda like where it is, but my reloading style might be different. It is a bit hard to release sometimes though. Maybe it's because I have a crappy CAI. Planning to either sell it or upgrade to DSA parts. Probably the latter, I haven't had too many problems with the rifle, decent accuracy too.
Otacon237 2 years ago
yes the dsarms SA58 is an excellent rifle! especially with the 14 inch barrel and the side folder butt stock. i love that rifle!
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
For sure. I'll probably stick to the 16+ inchers tho, don't feel like paying that shitty $200 SBR tax
Otacon237 2 years ago
Otacon, something else about G3 patterned weapons (including the MP5, HK33, HK21, etc.) is that you are trained to first lock the bolt back, swap the magazines, then the famous 'HK slap' to reload the firearm. The reason you pull the bolt back and lock it is to clear the firearm of any jams, or to insure that there are no jams. :-)
DangerousD, nice shooting there! I am a huge HK snob myself, so I appreciated this vid ;-). how do you like PTR vs HK?
Function11Airsoft 2 years ago
I know you are trained to do it that way, but I was asking if you absolutely HAVE to. I asked my friend who had one and he said it's not necessary but it's more reliable to do it that way. I prefer the FAL bolt release personally.
Otacon237 2 years ago
If you look at the rifles though, the M16 was developed about 10 years or more after the G3, as the G3 was based off of the STG-44 (of course, MANY modifications were made!) :-)
GMANinGA250 2 years ago
ive been an airborne infantryman, and designated marksman for over 5 years in the army and i must say the AR platform is by far more user friendly, but i just couldnt resist a nice battle rifle! lol
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
G-3 was based off the CETME which was based off of the STG.45
AlbanianSKS 2 years ago
oh i love hk firearms, just not the price of the accessories! lol
DangerousD1985 2 years ago
@Function11Airsoft sorry i thought i replied to u like a year ago lol. thanks for the compliment. well they are pretty even to be honest. i mean the ptr has a little bit of a cheaper "feel" but truthfully the fit and finish is nearly on par with the hk. especially with an aftermarket trigger job. i also have found hk accessories to work flawlessly on this platform. well i hope this helped some what. thanks for watching!
DangerousD1985 1 year ago
get some 14/88
Coldworld26 2 years ago
I just picked up a PTR-91 with an 18" barrell. Haven't got a chance to fire it been busy plus it's cold as hell up here. What do you like most what do you like least? I can tell just by playing with it that it's gonna be hard to miss. The ghost ring in the front makes the sites idiot proof.
leopardkwondo 3 years ago
its a really good all around mid range rifle. the only complaint i have with it is theres no bolt holp open when the last round is fired. you gotta charge the weapon all over again. yea its not that big of a deal but kinda annoying. another small annoyance is the price of hk accessories......
DangerousD1985 3 years ago
Right on!
leopardkwondo 3 years ago
Right on. Thanks! Have any suggestions on where to get a lot of cheap surplus ammo? Been using AIM surplus they have some decent prices compared to the stores around my area.
