  • GIANT ISOPODS ARE SOOO CUTE

    esp. Bathynomus giganteus

  • Hi, TVTroper! :)

  • The first part I found really entertaining was at 1:03. "Hey, guys, look! I'm on camera! Awesome! I wonder if they got my good side?" And then every other crab onscreen just doesn't give a shit but keeps stampeding past him to the buffet.

And the other part was the crab at 1:05. "Hey! Am I late to the-- Oh, you pricks! You ate everything again!"

  • Now just think, those Isopods were 3 feet long!

  • wow that was nuts

  • Just your average day at Red Lobster

  • If you play this as soon as the time lapse part starts whilst listening to the benny hill theme you WILL laugh ur ass off

  • om nom nom

  • I like the crab who returns after it, and everything else there, ate everything.

  • holly poop, kick ass!

  • Gotta love the way the isopods form that pillar in their frenzy.

  • Lol those crabs at the end looked like they were tap-dancing.

  • lol

  • Someone should synch this video with a Meshuggah song.

  • @ashflower dumbest idea I've heard since someone told me to shut my mouth.

  • GIANT ENEMY CRABS! ATTACK THEIR WEAKPOINTS FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE!

  • Wow, I wonder how good one of those crabs would taste...

  • I can't be the only one who was mildly amused by the one crab at the 1:04 mark who seemed content to sit near/on the camera and chill out for what looked to be several minutes while staring at all the other arthropods.

  • I want one of those giant pill bug looking things as a pet.

  • @brokeanddrive When you said pill, it reminded me of Despicable Me.

  • giant Isopods are amazing creatures!

  • Ho...ly...not so much as a bone...damn! Just, simply...damn!

  • We require more minerals.

  • I only speak English you jap bitch.

  • well, that was terrifying beyond all human capacity.

  • WHERE IS ULTRAMAN ?

  • Gosh XO That huge red crab thing scared the crap out of me..not to mention those grey scaley things...*shudder*

  • Comment removed

  • That is some gnarly shit.

  • BRR! I got goosebumps!

  • eels!!!!

  • that thing looks like a big cockroach.

  • Its a giant Marine isopod, meaning its in the same family of Crustaceans as sow bugs or rolly pollies.

Its the one Group of Crustaceans that actually have some totally land dwelling species in it,

While others are actually parasites of various shapes.

  • ew my worst nightmare, giant insect-like things

  • Isopods and Decapods?

  • I suppose so, either way im seriously phobic of anything resembling insects.

  • Really?

Does that include things like Mysids, Krill and lobsters?

    how about barnacles?

  • If there was a lobster or shrimp swimming near me, yeah id probably be scared. Barnacles not so much, unless they were touching me.

  • Shrimp?

Even the Micro Amphipod shrimps that are like 2 milimeters in size?

Its pretty hard not to touch barnacles if you want to enter the water. In some places Barnacle Growth is so Heavy that the rocks they grow on are not visible.

And The barnacle may extend as far as 50 feet from the waters edge, If you walk on even so much as one rock, You will likely Step on one, Or several hundred.

  • It creeps me out that there would be micro shrimp swimming with me.

To be honest I only swim in the ocean if the water is clear and see through. I would not swim in it otherwise. I think the ocean is beautiful, but scary.

  • No don`t mean to scare you further,

But There are Thousands of Potential Arthropod organisms living in one drop of sea water,

Such as copapods. Rotifers are also normaly present, but they are counted as there own phylum.

Arthropods are by far the most numerous form of animal life on the face of the earth, they are

    practically the Norm.

I suggest you learn as much about them as possible, educating yourself will serve to help tame your fear and understand these creatures.

  • Well microorganisms don't scare me as much as something I can see. I mean theres tiny organisms even on dry land. But otherwise, I do like learning about the ocean. I find deep sea fish interesting and I enjoyed snorkeling in the Carribbean.

  • I suggest taking up reef keeping.

Having an arthropod or two in a nano would help allot.

Every day i see my two Mithrax crabs hanging out in the rock work.

and the Hermits scurry across the substrate.

  • Ah, well I would go to the ocean more often but I live in the desert, so its very rare for me, unfortunately.

  • Well then reef keeping would be a more viable option i think.

You just need to find a aquarium store that deals in salt water.

  • Haha yeah id actually enjoy that, except for the fact that pet stores won't hire me. Or anyone else for that matter. Im unhireable

  • Oh, i did not mean get job in it.

Trying to do that, while not having a sufficient knowledge base is impossible.

I just mean you should get some Reefing books,

Do the research, Get a tank, get the hardware, ask the necessary questions and setup a reef tank at home.

  • Well, I eventually would like to do that. sounds fun.

  • It requires some commitment though.

    So be aware.

And also be aware of the dangers some organisms can pose under certain circumstances.

  • Ah, well commitment is my middle name.

  • I find 100% of arthropods jaw-droppingly beautiful and am shocked/appalled that any human being can find them ugly or frightening. Yes, I know how common that is. I feel like I'm living in some backwards alien world where ugly is pretty and vice versa.

  • Well I guess to each their own, we all like different things right?

  • @Scythemantis I had the chance to buy these conserved in alcohol but a combination of having no money and a freaked out girlfriend prevented me from buying it XD

  • @Scythemantis So you think kittens are disgusting? That's appalling!

  • @Scythemantis are you intelligent? do you really profess appallation to anyone who doesn't share your opinions? I feel like im living in a backwards world when people such as yourself say such pathetic and stupid things as "I am disgusted that the world doesn't have the exact same views as me"

Do yourself a favour and get a life. jerk.

  • @BAZSLAVENovBRADFORD2 It's not about opinions, it's about respect. The natural world deserves respect. There is no reason for people to find completely harmless, natural and beneficial organisms disgusting and frightening. People suffer aversions to many creatures simply for being different, when that's the diversity of life should be nothing but cool. What a stupid reason to call me a jerk with no life...I haven't been nearly as rude about it as you are.

  • @Scythemantis

my son is scared of the dark. WHAT A LITTLE SHIT! HOW DARE HE NOT LIKE THE DARK AS I DO WHEN I GO TO SLEEP?! Do you see how ridiculous your statement is? im sorry for returning to reinforce my first comment, but you really have got on my nerves.

  • @BAZSLAVENovBRADFORD2 it's not remotely the same thing. The dark can be dangerous. Humans have a natural instinct to be afraid when their senses are impaired. The dark is where predators once lurked and where we can still get pretty badly hurt. Being sickened and horrified by innocent sea-bugs, however, is being a pathetic PUSSY and people should be ashamed of their intolerance for exotic species. You don't get it at all, and you're being ten times the asshole you think I'm being :p

  • @BAZSLAVENovBRADFORD2 furthermore, the irrational disgust people have for various animals is NOT natural or normal. Biologists have found that a fear/hatred of insects, reptiles or other harmless creatures is both recent and regional, It's restricted primarily to highly developed countries where we aren't as exposed to nature...in other words, it's an abnormal side effect of sheltering ourselves too much from the outdoors. You're really going to get pissy with me for pointing out how dumb it is?

  • @Scythemantis i agree, to be sickened is quite extreme, but to be scared of what people dont understand is not a fault i think.

  • LMO 1:08 LMAO greedy ASS crab forgot sometihing LoL

  • ...

  • and that's why i refuse to go to the beach...

  • thats a huge rolly polly!

  • hahahahaha thats what i was thinking

  • 地獄?

  • Look at all those isopods at 0:52!

  • Actually, odds are there are tiny isopods in your garden munching on all the decaying plant matter. Keep a lookout for one. Good thing is, they're too small to be able to bite you (i.e. harmless).

  • shit! are those like the little rolly pollys er somethin?

  • theyre called slaters

  • They are a form is Isopod,

Yes there directly related to them.

Though What you call rolly pollys are not insects, rather they a terrestrial crustaceans.

  • isopod = sea cockroaches

  • Dear god holy fuck!

  • neat

  • ......... MOSH PIT !!!!!!!

  • wtf......

  • guess im not going to japan any time soon...SHAME

  • oh no i dont understand Japanese

  • It is poissible to keep giant isopod as pets in home marine aquaruim?

  • Imagine having one of those lice in your hair. :)

  • which hair?

  • huh? don't you get it? The hair on your head dummy!

  • all of those fishes, just over one fish body! just goes to show you how little amount of food that they get.

  • also shows that nothing in nature is waqsted

  • also shows that nothing in nature is wasted

  • Bathyn0mu$ Gigant3u$ ar3 t3h 1337!!!!!!!!!!11

  • mmm very good :)

  • The giant armadillo-ey things are called Bathynomus. They will come visit you when you sleep with the goddamn fishes, so you'll never be truly alone.

  • They're also known as giant isopods.

  • Aren't they that species of animal that were originally believed to have been extinct?

  • I think you're confusing them with another species.

  • no man, there's some places that the people sell them, but it's just a simple boobytrap because they have no meat att all!

  • Look at all those isopods at 0:52. Damn!

  • wth r those white things that looks like maggots or worms?

  • Giant Isopods. Think woodlice, but the size of a freaking dog.

  • ooh the japanese version. Where are the bones?!

  • nyummy nummy!

  • timelapse vids are sic

  • That's definitely one of the coolest things i've seen on youtube. Its so typical that greedy humans who think they're funny see that and straight away and think of their greedy rumbling bellies as if the seas haven't been raped enough already

  • Hippie.

  • lol u see the lil crab come back at the end for the scraps !

  • mmmh yummi!

  • ahh so juicy!!

  • i hear they r good 2 eat

    This Video is amazing!

    I am a vegetarian!

  • lol, it is exactly someone like him who introduced crabs......i;m sure they taste like crabs or lobsters.....

  • Hippie.

  • Giant isopods, like giant underwater woodlice. They can grow to more than a foot long and a few can weigh a good 50lbs.

  • those large flat...arthros....they look like trilobites..any idea what they are?
