Profit is, by definition, cheating someone out of their money; if it weren't, you would only cover costs (which would include wages). Since I doubt markeedragon used most of his profits for R&D, it's safe to say he played the game, and played it well. If you sell a product to a person, and know it's "overpriced", and they, unaware, buy at that price anyway, you're cheating them.

Making money is about buying low and selling high, regardless of the product. &most people are aware of the price they're paying being more than the actual value. And if they aren't oh well, it doesn't matter. Prices will always be buy low sell high, if you want to buy at a lower price - you can go have fun spending the time to do so. Companies get discounts because they buy from the source, and then they distribute. It's easier to just pay.

@missmilkinsanity Of course it matters. There is a finite amount of resources on this Earth. If currency is a reflected monetized value of resources, and you overpay something's value, it means you're exchanging more resources than the resource value of the item. This leads to two things: Or eventually you must "sell" resources for less than their value to make up the balance, or you have run out of resources. Profit, by this century, should be a thing of the past.

@YawnGod Except that most currency these days, is digital currency. And money is one of the easiest resources to obtain because of this. This is why profit ISNT a thing of the past. If we were using the barter system, or if our money wasn't made out of thin air then yes, things would be exchanged at equal value for the most part. Besides, we're talking about video games and online services - if someone is "wasting their resources" on shattered crystal obviously they can afford it.

@missmilkinsanity I-m afraid you don't know what you're talking about. Making currency digital does not make it easier to obtain, and I have no idea how you came to such a conclusion. Profit should be a thing of the past because it almost never positively contributes to society. Only in research and development does it have value. The world needs less millionaire yachts and more particle accelerators. Profits are 17th-20th century, East India Company and Rockefeller pasts.

@YawnGod Holy shit, you're so mind numbing. Profit is the extra you charge for your work in it. If you pave someone's driveway and the materials are $1500, but you charge $2500, that profit is the work you put into it. As in Shattered Crystal's case, they buy wholesale and sell to you at a close-to-normal price. Most people can't afford to pay wholesale, so the profit they make is basically their fee for providing the server. Learn marketing. Socialism never works. No incentives to achieve
