Oh get over yourself guys, I'm sick and tired of these f'ing comments about how the 80's was amazing and todays music is dumb. You guys do realize that your parents and/or grandparents probably regarded the 80's with the same snobby disdain (I put the "and/or" in there as your grandparents might have died from boredom during the 80s)? Every decade produces shit and sometimes there are gold flakes lodged in that shit, you just have to know where to look.
I just want to grab 20 year olds and say "GET YOUR OWN FUCKING DECADE!" this was ours, are you so bereft of ideas you have to have this one? Sheesh...
He is cute ..Philip Oakley...I had the.same hairdo at that time with the accesories that comes with it..hehehehe..... i was the laughing talk of the town .....Great track ......saw them several times in Holland and i must admit...they where outstanding...dark wave and a very good sound ........
This was certainly one of the most innovative synth-based bands to have ever existed, and they had arguably the greatest singer of all the groups of this genre.
@UKSazzy67 You bet we do, it's awful. Hence why i only listen to 80s synthpop/new wave at 17 years old. The Human League will always be 100x better than whatever rubbish comes along nowadays :D
Bowie said they were the sound of the Future and he wasn't far wrong
When he said it. They're still doing their thing with ABC and Heaven 17 at
The Moment.
Irony, all these years later, the HL and music from the Early half of the Eighties always makes me smile and sad at the same time, sad I am old, happy I was around for this, and the 80's.
J and S... Love you girls .. stuff of many sleepless nights ..
@andr6sal Why will U think Of Lady gaga?? this was the 80's ! lady gaga belongs to this present time U might don't like her but she is BIG now these are her times. and kids love her...
there's a difference to repetition in the chorus....to repeating the same couple words through the entire track.
some recent pop releases literally have 3 words in the whole track. brainless.
you will note that the chorus repeated in this tune is varied over 16 bars compared to today where the same few words used are repeated ever fucking bar with no progression of thought or interest.
The world needs bands like The Human League, Ultravox, Spandau Ballet, etc no more than ever. Nowadays, music in general lacks substance, heart and soul.
Great story to this. The Human League girls were still at school in class when one of their mothers came and took them out of class. The girls were shocked when told they had to appear that evening in TOTP. The mother whisked them off to catch an Intercity for London at Sheffield Station - the rest is history!!
i think its funny that just 10 years ago kids my age had no idea about the human league and now I go out to clubs and everyone is dressed just like these guys.
oh boy, happy days, exciting but still thought of as the 'norm' - always thought music would stay this good but of course nearly Everything now has to be the consumerist force-fed unimaginative mcmusic. Jst pleased that i lived thru the whole 'new-romantic' period.
One of the greatest bands of that era. Ultravox is my absolute favorite, but Human League comes very close. I would just give anything to be able to go back in time and experience that time period. I was born in '84 so unfortunately my memories only extend back to 1988 and those are sort of picture-esque (just brief fragments of different situations). Oh well. Thank God for technology, so at least this phenomenal music is preserved for eternity for everyone to enjoy any time.
to nuge, even if they do sing that, its still a good track right, those times were nuts, i'd just left school and wondering what the hell this was..love it
Hernhillrebel - Jo Callis was going through a phase when writing this song of including references to hairdressing...I've NO idea why!
Spizzardo -Not 8 track tape decks (they are bloody heavy to move & require too much setting up), the are 2-track Revox B77s...as beloved by the likes of OMD...that called theirs "Winston"
This song was spoiled for me forevermore when someone said Jo & Suzanne sing "ARSE AROUND".........see what you think - (I've probably sopiled it for you now!)
I actually remember watching this clip on TOTP all those years ago, reason I remember is my friend Danny(formerly of the French Letters, now along with lead singer Bryan, dead) pointing out and commenting on the bank of,the then cutting edge, now antique, eight tracks in the background.
Now i agree that Sheffield has a good musical track record: but better than Manchester (Smiths, Joy Division etc.), or London (The Who, the Stones etc.). Something's out of balace here. It wasn't a Mugabe style election was it?

Liverpool as #1 suggests it was. The scallys would have voted 20 times each, torched the booths and stolen the voting boxes.
I'll second Manchester over "London" though, 'cos a lot of bands based there are not from there.
