Refreeze the ice? That's just silly. and far too expensive and time consuming to take out/replace. monster trucks, motocross, rodeo...we cover it just fine.
I mean i Know Theres a Slab of Concrete underneath it but the surface of the ice is only about an inch or two thick. it amazes me that all that heavy equipment doesn't mess with the surface
@ooxcfhxoo AN INCH OR TWO THICK!? Geez dude, you were WAY off. NHL Regulation ice is only a quarter of an inch thick.
And to answer your question, what you were seeing when they removed the dirt was not ice. It was some sort of protectant used to keep the cement floor clean. They didn't refreeze the ice until after they removed the temporary floor, put the boards up, and laid down the layer of ice markings. Then they just simply freeze the ice overtop of it.
@John19182004 Like I said, they have thin plastic slabs with the hockey markings on them that they lay down onto the cement floor and freeze the ice overtop of it. In most cases, it's too expensive to refreeze the ice. But for events that require heavy moving objects like this, there's no choice but to let the ice melt and redo it. For events that require dirt, they put tarps over the floor to keep the cement clean.
@ewetoobebuddah Read my comment again. Esspecially this part right here...

Seriously... why the hell would they leave the ice frozen, just for it to be crushed into peices?
I would of said fuck it and quit when it comes to removing/placing the dirt. I have some respect now after watching this for the people there who have the patience to do that.
oh wow. After watching this i'll never complain about bball to hockey changeovers again. That must have been such a bitch to clean. I applaud all of the workers.

@Prim3StaR How Do They Do It says the floor is 4cm thick overall. Which is 1.6 Inches.

@SiliconSam428 Moral of the story: Don't trust everything you see on TV. Besides, "How Do They Do It" is notorious for giving out false info.

@Prim3StaR if they didn't have it frozen, wouldn't all the ice melt and the markings run??

@Prim3StaR they do not melt the ice. They put boards over top of the ice and it is kept cold and frozen from the piping underneath.
