  • This shit crushes everything.

  • and wtf is Thurston Moore.

  • Unclassifiable and monolithic.

  • "Public Castration Is a Good Idea" is by far my favorite Swans record, followed by "Body to Body, Job to Job".

  • @horseloverfatjr Mine too, with the addition of COP to that list. You can't fuck with that shit.

  • @horseloverfatjr Those are both my own favourites of early Swans. I also love 'Soundtracks for the Blind', another great record.

  • i think this was ICA fuck knows when ...bass beyond gut

  • it's kind of funny that the whole point of swans has always been to challenge and piss off the audience as much as possible and get away with it. i guess we're all just suckers for abuse.

  • I want to own a long slow screw . . . is it available on DVD??? This is perfect . . . absolutely perfect!!!

  • tuning and chords for anything they've done? i have not a clue

  • I want to feel this sound tear through my body... hopefully soon!

  • This music truly is genious.

  • soundtracks from hell ;)))

  • makes tool sound like watered down one note ( drop D) crap

  • I agree with you 100%

  • dude the people in the group would agree with you too whole heartedly they'd even invite you for a tea and let you babble for hours on how much you hate their sound or how unintelligible their music is

  • nothing compares to the SWANS.... they have crossed over boundaries most could never fathom or explore.... their progression was a natural and brilliant road... they will forever be apart of my heart....

  • god, that is exactly how I fell. Years and years later this song still has the same effect on me- complete submission.

  • this was my favorite song to listen while watching porn 15 years ago :P

  • sounds like hes giving birth hahaha to something evil hahahaha !!! love this :-)))))))))

  • That's a great comment!

  • haha

  • damn.its like I'm on drugs or something,my world is getting so slow.lol..and I'm liking it.

  • At about 3:50 in the vid, you can see the tones that Norm Westerberg is playing. It's totally awesome. These guys were just absolutely not to be repeated. When you watch Sunn, you get the feeling that the whole thing is a put-on. When you watch this, you can literally see them going into a trance. Brutal.

  • Michael Gira on switching to acousting, 1989: "I was seeing that we were attracting a heavy metal crossover audience and they can kiss my ass."

LOL, he had no idea he'd been playing metal.

  • You would think he'd play what he likes, not based on any audience.

  • LOL!!!!

Yes...Gira always made me laugh insulting METAL FUKKS, though I think he can kiss my ass as well, haha!

  • @amalesev this ain't metal. no way.

  • @amalesev this isn't metal. dumb ass metal head fucks just mistaked it for metal cause of it's harsh sound. if anything it's essentially a form of post-punk/industrial

  • @youknowyourrite1 I'd just call it Noise Rock

  • @youknowyourrite1 I was going to say it's Blues. Which it technically is.

  • SWANS

    forever

  • yes first time ive'd listen swans...20 years maybe, and they allways take to states ov mind that few can...excellent

  • in answer to natesot:

see recent Al & Norman's band "NeVAh" clip elsewhere on youtube

  • dose anyone know what Norman Westburg and al kizies are doing now, we all kno what gera and jarbo are doing and ted in in Prong but what about the other two? just wondering.

  • What you don't get from the video is that they played as loud as their technology could support. Which is to say, that paint flakes fell from the walls and ceiling. All of your internal organs vibrated. It made you feel like you were about to collapse. Even the most hardcore fans would clap their hands over their ears after a few minutes. Signs were posted, prohibiting pregnant women from attending the shows because of the injurious affects to the unborn.

  • Swans volume: - I tried to record them at a show in the 80ties and literally - if I opened the recordvolume for 1 mm the meter was already at the red top end - complete overload. I really think they must all be completely deaf by now.

  • Swans have always been the kings of making the most depressing music I've ever heard, Is there a live performance of Goddamn The Sun or Failure floating about anywhere?

  • Like a musical hangover! Incredible! Thanks!!!

  • Nu metal kids would do well to give this band a listen, not to mention black metal ones. This band easily devours them all.

  • exactly and all the grind core bands they dont hole a candle to the swans but they were the origional and hell they had al kizies on bass he alone is just so amazing to watch live .

  • Well, this specific performance is not on 'Public Castration'... What a treat: magnificent, just magnificent. Thanks again and again for making it possible to watch this.

  • I'm not sure, it might actually be on real love. I'm pretty sure the years match, 1986.

  • They do seem very similar, but still I think this one is a bit different, also from the recording on Real Love -- the one I like most by the way. Anyway: Anything for You is probably my all time favorite.

  • Yeah, I went back and listened to it again, they do seem to be different. And this song really is great, one of my favs. as well.

  • And what about something like, say, Burmese -- Preyer (from, well, MEN)? Just curious.

  • I have to say, I was not familiar with that until you mentioned it--now after reading something about it I have to say I'm going to be hunting this down, I think.

  • I think this might be the Public Castration version, as it's the same length as the record. I love this song, studio and live.

  • It is the same version you stupid homo.

  • Cool!

  • Maybe he was angry because of the "sonic" in your name - apparently Sonic Youth stole a lot of Swans' thunder (in terms of popularity and exposure) back in the day. No reason to be angry though! Thurston Moore played with Swans in their early days.

  • Yeah! But it's all great music in the end! : )

  • Life is worth living with gems like this about!
