how does he know that hes going down the right track? obviously the tunnels split from time to time in other directions. what if the signals mislead him?
Ahhh - I thought the music had changed. A pity - I just love the film though... I could get pretentious and say its a metaphor of life - long dark bits, with little episodes of lightness, before plunging back in. But I wont :)
This gives me such a difference opnion on the tube drivers now. Such a lonley and claustrophobic atmosphere. I commend any drivers to do this everyday while 'we' sit and complain about being two minutes late to our brightly lit offices and workplaces.
Ive read about the hypnotic effect that the tunnel rings are supposed to have on drivers ...maybe its a good thing the lights are out! Love the old art deco tiling and decor :)
I have watched this again and again. Its like going into nothingness. It is scary. What does the driver do while say 2 min of total darkness. Fall asleep- no of course not
It's an area where there is 24/7 darkness, no sun, no lighting. The driver can see a long way ahead with the fairly dim lights, but most importantly, s/he needs to see the signals, it's critical
The Northern line is a bit twisty, isn't it? At least between King's Cross and Bank it is always going up and down and round mad bends, making a huge racket as it goes. It's like an underground rollercoaster!
I assume that the driver can see a little more than that, but the camera does not have enough dynamic range to see it all. The trains always have their headlights on.
Boring huh, I suppose its also boring when you book off your 9 weeks paid annual leave, and when your raking in 40k a year? O and if you become sick, you can take a whole year off paid!
no deeefinatly not, some billy no mates complained to LUL and the BBC that they do not like the idea of drivers driving whilst filming, but as far as im concerned, he isnt talking to the cam, or handling it whilst driving, so how does this distract him?
This is filmed almost entirely in tunnel so don't expect anything miraculous! The driver only sees about 20 feet ahead illimunated as it is more about seeing the signals. Also, apologies for the blinding sunlight at Morden.

Lovely pleasant video, rather gentle really. I love the music, could you tell me what it is please?
fouloleron2002 2 years ago 4
Unfortunately I can't, it was a video/audio swap forced by YouTube as the original music (Neil Young) was removed.

are you stupid? they choose to do this job not forced.
skillpluswill 2 years ago
....yes, I'm stupid. I obviously thought that it was a slave trade run job. And that choice also takes away difficulties of a job. Of course.

I read somewhere that in Europe there are tunnels which are lighted unlike here!
ramesh046 2 years ago
There could well be, but why would you want to see inside the tunnel?

As long as you can concentrate for long periods on practically nothing and are drug free, there's nothing to stop you.

Please leave sensible comments that don't make you look uneducated, ill-informed and, well, an idiot.

Quite correct, but you don't need to see ahead, because all it is is tunnel. Plus you need to see the signals.

I'm seeing also speed limits! (25 before entering Colliers Wood and 35 after passing left curve exiting that station!)

Excuse me, 35 mph after passing left curve exiting South Wimbledon, not Colliers W.

The driver sits on the left. This was filmed from the right. Therefore...

There are no cabin buttons on view, so I can't explain which each one does without photos of them.

Wow, that light at the end of tunnel is pretty strong!
I'd imagine it blinds the driver for a few seconds.
