I never heard of this band until I saw them last night, on an old episode of the Henry Rollins Show, doing this song. Loved the song and the way they down-tune their guitars rather than using a bass player. And I fancy the drummer.

Well because Sleater-Kinney is not pretentious. Both guitarists have been in the indie scene since the early 90s. Corin Tucker was apart of the original riot girl movement.

You just answered your own question. The most essential thing to a good rock musician is not technique or ability, it's songwriting. If you disagree, take a look at the fact Nirvana is one of the most popular groups of all time. Cobain couldn't play guitar for shit, but he was a creative songwriter, which is all that mattered.

Note to Paramore: Not only did Sleater-Kinney beat you to the whole "perfoming in the woods" but their form of chick rock kicks your chick rock any day of the week. "The Woods" is amazing in so many ways there's no invented way to define it.
