I know that Harper's got some advisers from the Republican Party in the US, and I know that American conservatives are freaked out by the fact that limited socialism more or less works in Canada, but I'm very hesitant to say there's a conspiracy going on.

The notion that Canada should merge with the US, or at least become exactly like it, has been around in Canada since its independence. I suspect Harper is just the latest voice to pick that up.

Even in the US we fall back on some socialist types of help, for example Welfare & Foodstamps, and finanical help from Dept.of Human Serivces, and State Insurance which is FREE, they also artificially inflate the economy when they need to.
