They didn't use this opening for VERY long after Brenda came back. She came back in November 1983, and they updated the credtis in January 1984. And they DID use that Juliana McCarthy/Brenda Dickson sketch at the mid-show bumper. The sketch ws orginally done around 1978.
I remember months after Brenda Dickson returned as Jill, they continued to use the opening shot with Deborah Adair & Jerry Douglas. Brenda Dickson & Julianna McCarthy had a mid-bumper sketch card during this time.
Usually shows with cast montage still use an image of previous actor in the openings even when they have been recast. I got part of the mid-bumper sketch you referenced.
For some reason, they chopped off the first 5 seconds of the song, along with the opening drawing of Leslie Brooks and Robert Laurence. (I guess Leslie and Robert had left the show by this time, so rather than "erase" the actors and replace them with someone else, they just chopped off that part of the opening! What a cheap way to update the opening! Budget constraints even in 1983, lol.)

These titles aired each episode for what seemed like ages; Stuart+Liz were still pictured a good 6 months after they left. It was the last title to show Stuart. End credits ran over a pic of 4 women (the Brooks girls?). Then a different end credits group included Kay. In 1984 the titles changed to 3 different versions each with unique set of picture and no group shots. Liz returned in 1984.
The end credits for Y&R from the start of 1980 to the spring of 1981 had Nikki, Cassey (Nikki's sister), April Stevens (Paul's girlfriend at the time) and Vanessa Printess.
In the summer of 1981 they changed the end credits with those characters (Nikki, Cassey, Vanessa, April) and replaced them with Kay Chancellor, Lance Printess, Lori Brooks, Leasley Brooks, Lucas Printess and Douglas.
The first titles I saw in a broadcast episode! Kay Kevin Nikki; Jill and John Abbott; Paul Andy Danny; Jack and Patty Abbott; Carl and Mary Williams; Stuart Brooks and Liz Foster. I loved the storyline where Patty got Jack, got amnesia, Carl suspected Jill...
yeah bill bell got tired of recasting most of original characters since the show's inception so in the early 80s he created the Williams and Abbotts which are mostly wiped out today only Paul and Jack are remainng but John comes back as a ghost every now and then lol

It always bothered me that Victor was not in these credits. I recall he had a big storyline with Eve Howard and his ex-wife Julia around this time.
