I have a green army sleeping bag and I use it to hunt in 18 degree I can sit in my stand all day I pull my boots off and bungee them to the back of my stand and get in it with jus my socks and zip it up to my face and I'm good for all day when deer comes up I jus pull the zipper down and stand up grab my bow. I keep it tied to my platform and roll it up and strap it then put my stand together.its wonderful I wouldn't take $200.00 for it.
DRMO stands for Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office or as we military folks call DerMo.
I replied to a guy in ultralight backpacking last night. He thinks that down bags are better than synthetics... Maybe out in the Sierras possibly but add some rain, wet snow or humidity and those "lightweights" are the guys, like a buddy in Search and Rescue says, casualties!
Good review. I have to ask, how many of us backpack in -30 deg wx? Since it's modular you can tailor it to your needs!
I used to be in the Marines in the 90s and had this sleep system and they are good to go! the green bag is what they call a patrol bag its your light weight summer bag then the black is early spring/late fall and then the complete system is winter. and its way better then a ranger roll!!!
I bought one of these 3-piece modular sleeping bag, and have to say it is THE BEST for really cold weather / winter camping. I have already used mine just this last winter in temps down to -20 F and was nice and toasty. With all 3 bags utilized its rated down to -30 F. However, as an additional air gap to my self inflating pad, I also utilize a wool blanket bedding inside the bag with the padding on top.
The blue paint Says DRMO? IF that is so It stands for Defence, Reutilization,Management , Office. I guess they this is who your local surplus guy gets his gear from.

Dude, Nice video... They are 300 bucks at my local surplus store. Thats where I realized I needed one. I then went to Ebay and found one for 100 bucks. With no holes like new. I can't wait to get it. The US spends lots of money on testing and you know they are used in the worst places on earth. I love all my second hand US military goods. Thanks for the video. PS I got some new Bellview US issue boots, they are Gortex and the best boots ever. Got to be ready for ....... you know. Thats man.
@sxdxfan Defense Reutilization Management Office. When I retired from the Air side of the house (i was supply) they had changed it to DRMS (Defense Reutilization Management Service. Check their sites to find out when they have their auctions. they have them for individuals and business (surplus stores etc). they sell everything from cars to tents to heavy construction equipment. you can get things on massive discount.
So I went to my local army surplus store. I bought one brand new with the bag and tags. I bought it for $162.00, it came with foliage green sleeping bag, urban grey sleeping bag, two stuff bags (small and large), and bivy GoreTex bag with ACU Camouflage.
I have one too, its USGI Current ACU MSS. Ive had it for two years. Its a great system. For a year and a half I was looking for a army sleeping bag these was in 2007 and mid 2008. There weren't much information on these sleeping bag system then; but I look for them everywhere. In some website were very expensive. about $400.00 to $600.00. in some places were reasonable price but used in excellent condition.
you def got a good deal! I have 2, paid 150 for 1, and 200 for the other. camped out last wed and temps down to 29F, and I was toasty warm in just the bag with no tent, slept good all night, no campfire...
@sackett68 I will totally agree with you, I do love the old style of sleeping bag as'well most'lee because of the inside meterial esp if you start to sweat, the meterial wicks it away from your skin where the new style sometime's feel's like your laying in wet newspaper! I wear a under shirt when I sleep in the new style and it totally help's 100% :) I still give it a 10/10 because it's so warm and my old style bag only go's to +20* and the new one go's to -30* I have 3 old style bag's just 2b

The system is very well made, heard its rated to -40 if you wear the thermals.
Only downside is its a very heavy setup for backpacking.

It costs a lot more, but commercial sleeping bags are far superior to army surplus.
Try a high end Montbell or Mountain Hardwear.
