Although I think Pia and Uwe have the best voices and best chemistry together, I have finally figured out why I think that Maté Kamaras is also wonderful for this part.

He is just a great actor, his facial expressions work wonders. He makes it look so good like it's only a sort of game for Der Tod. He looks somewhat arrogant, knowing Elisabeth will come to him eventually, as long as he is patient. For Elisabeth on the other hand, it's all very serious. Maté portrays this very well!

@InnTakt tja, Betonung liegt auf "ist" Uwe war mal echt besser als Mate, aber Mate hat ihn überholt, Uwes Stimme ist weg, Pia's Stimme ist noch da :-) aber gegen Maya hab ich auch nix :-)

Nicht ganz. Die Choreographie sieht bei Pia/Uwe etwas eleganter aus. Im Großteil stimmen die beiden aber überein.

Die Damen vom Takarazuka Theater sind einfach genial <3 meine lieblingsversion ist übrigens die von 2007 mit Mizu Natsuki als Tod (sie ist meine Traumfrau *-*)

Aber nichts gegen die deutschen :D

achja: die japanische version ist nicht die reguläre, sondern die des takarazuka theaters, in dem nur frauen mitspielen ^^

Yes, it's very odd and I don't like it, too because they have ruined the story. But I think the 2002 cast is the best cast of the Takarazuka staging. My favourite version is Essen 2001 with Uwe and Pia.

I like the German and Dutch stagings (which are nearly identical) but I must say I prefer the Vienna version the best because it doesn't obscure a very important theme all productions seem to swallow up.

You see, the love affair with death isn't meant to be taken literally. Kunze and Levay meant to show that Elisabeth brought death with her to the Austrian Court, which is what toppled the Habsburg dynasty and I think it's a very important theme in the show.

I like the Original Vienna version (not the revival) also very much but I sometimes think that it is a bit to dark.

- the cast

- the orchestrations

- Caspar Richter conducts the songs very fast

- I don't like how Wenn ich tanzen will is staged

My favourite versions are Essen 2001, Vienna 1992 and Berlin/Tour 2008-2010.

Naja ich persönlich mag Máté Kamaras mit Maya Hakvoort in Wien und Uwe Kröger mit Pia Douwes (allerdings 1992 in Wien) am meisten.

Aber Ootori Rei und Haruno Sumiro sind natürlich auch nicht schlecht. Haruno ist ein sehr guter Tod, Ootori ist mir allerdings als Elisabeth etwas zu schrill.
