We teach people (yes, normal people) to do things like this at the Circus Center in San Francisco. Some classes can be taken as a drop-in, while others require a full semester commitment, and have some prerequisites.
At the time of this video, they weren't 16 yet. Don't forget to see them when they come to town with the new Cirque du Soleil 2007-2008 North America Tour! The show is called Kooza, and it looks like a great show! Reviews are saying it is one of the best Cirque shows in years!
Although gymnasts tend to suffer from increasing issues with joints and connective tissue, the majority of the damage comes from the compressive "pounding" (of tumbling, beam, and vault) and joint stresses caused by sudden, rapid, and excentric motions of the various equipment (high bar, rings, asymetric bars, and pomel horse). Contortion is a slow and controlled series of motions with surprisingly little of the rapid and damaging aspects of gymnastics.
Flexibility is NEVER harmful in and of itself. It's the extreme stretching some of the professionals do to quickly increase their flexibility that can be harmful (micro scars from tearing, etc.). When they start young like this it's totally safe and they will have much less problems with joint/muscle stiffening, etc. when they're old.
I saw one of them in a candy commercial a few months ago. Yes, they have bones, but that's all. We can probably trace the route of their performances by observing the popularity of anorexia among teens and preteens in its wake.
Although the Mystic Pixies are amazing to watch, you would be surprised by how much they can eat. Their training (6 hours plus a day!) burn a lot of calories. Also the activites that they do require strength and concentration. A good diet is a very integral part of their training.
I don't doubt that, or that the girls really are exhausted when they lay down at the end of this routine. I also don't doubt that unfortunately some admirers in their audience will take unhealthy shortcuts trying to emulate them. Still, I wouldn't miss an opportunity to see them with Cirque.
are this girls girls bones ike rubber bands[flexibles].

I am not 100% sure, as they get older every year...just like the rest of us. At the time this video was shot, I believe that they were 9 to 12.

I don't think their flexibility in itself is harmful, but I'd imagine having the weight of another person on our folded-in-half spine can't be good.

Yes, the Mystic Pixies are in fact training in Montreal right now! They should be part of Cirque Du Soleil's next touring show.
