  • Not only was Chaplin one of the greatest silent clowns, he was also a man of many talents. He was also a fine scriptwriter, composer and director.

  • I don't love his movies. I love Chaplin :) I love Chaplin because of all his hard work he has done over the years. I respect the man so much because of his genius he had put in all his films and to the world <3

  • A genius shunned by the US...what hypocrites these people are

  • Sir Chaplin - a true artist!

Sure, people remember him for his cheap slapstick smiles - but that's the least he gave us... he was making this world a better place with the messages of his films and music.

From The Kid to A countess of Hong Kong - Sir Chaplin was just an amazing person!

Never has there been an Oscar given into better hands!

  • PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE CAN I WATCH HIM WINING IT!!!!

  • So glad Gary Rydstrom -- who he -- was pleased Chaplin got the Oscar.

  • A legendary comdeian, the workd have ever had such a great artist.hats-off....

  • he is te one who started it all

  • I agree with Gary Rydstrom, Charlie is my film idol and inspiration as well! : ' D

  • King of Cinema. Give to the cinema all your power.

    (sorry my english)

    From Brazil

  • An amazing life. From sheer poverty to stardom.

  • Best Artist! From Brazil

  • Notice that this man watched Chaplin as a little kid.

It's not a matter of "being old" to like silent films, it's a matter of taste, which is very hard to come by today.

God Bless Chaplin. The ending to "Modern Times" is a beautiful, bitter sweet scene that I will never forget.

  • I didn't even recongize him lol

  • GRANDIOSO!!!

  • I just got into Chaplin and I was completely and utterly blown away by his movies, I couldn`t believe how good they were, especially City lights..I mean holy crap talk about a tear jerker. But it wasn`t just that, it was just the way the way he moved, it was just pure perfection like ballet, you didn`t need words. And what got me about this guy was how modest he was. If you watch that whole Oscar clip, they hand him his cane and hat and he seems embarrassed by it! I mean my god, can you imagine?

  • @JamesTKirkCobain I have to agree with you, he was brilliant!! Its just a shame the US government treated him like a traitor. The way he was treated was sickening!

  • I have to agree with him, it's my favorite moment too.

  • I'm 20 and I wish I was born 100 years earlier and see first steps of Chaplin in big screen. Today it's not the same. He's my hero and always be.

  • The greatest one!!!

  • Charles Chaplin is the greatest artist that'll ever exist. Period.

  • was he an albino

  • @sweety2010ize no, just old lol.

  • @sweety2010ize no, British.

  • was he an albino

  • I am sooooo glad he won this oscar!! stupid americans, its not fait for him to have gone into exile just becuase they thought he was a communist!!!!! That is sooo unfaor for him!!!! But still, he is the best director of our time and he should of gotten that way before, He is a truly genius, im so sad for what happened to him, but so happy he finally got it!!

  • Charli Champlin

  • He changed comedy and film making forever. And of course inspiring other great people too. Like Lauren N' Hardy and a chain of evolving styles of comedy. :)

He should be mentioned more these days.

  • "Been out of the Country so long" He was pushed out, coz that idiot Hoover thought he was a Commie sympathiser, because of chaplins film "The Great Dictator"

So nice to be able to be Polite ! B******ds

  • Da best!!!

    O melhor!!!

    El mejor!!!

  • Chaplin Forever....Best Artist...

  • @bru177THE BEST HUMAN!!

  • Ok..

  • lots of silent stars careers went down the tube when the creation of sound, hollywood. and more stuff. Charlie Chaplin was already really respected by that point. and he transitioned very nicely into talking pictures

  • I love that man.

  • Did you not found it amazing how he was able to convey his message through his movies before sound was invented?

  • However, I tend to agree with my high school teacher (who knew about movies!), when he said:

"The advent of sound in movies killed Buster Keaton, but made Charly Chaplin more popular than ever.

However: "The kid" brings many to tears.... even without sound...

  • @rwctim

Well, the main thing with Keaton's career was that he might have done better after sound came in had he not made the decision to sign with MGM. That was the main thing that killed his career. He lost all controll over his projects, and Mayer had no patience with or appreciation for his genius. Couple that with his alcoholism, and that had more to do with his downfall. But the good thing is that he lived to see the resurgence of his popularity, and true respect for his art.

  • Actually, what "killed" Buster was losing creative control over his films (and alcohol); in the end he actually died of throat cancer

  • True Legend

  • Laurel n Hardy blew them ALL out of the water

  • All I remember when one mentions Chaplin's films is the tears in my eyes.Kids usually laugh at clowns, but Charlie's films were also very touching. They will last forever.

    I CARE TARANTO

  • chaplin and keaton are the ancestors of cinema..if there are good actors today, we owe it to them...he fucking deserved it

  • Before that he was abused and rejected by the U.S just like they actually do with Michael Jackson.

  • That was not Chaplin receiving the oscar, right?

  • it was

  • yes it was

  • Of course it's chaplin. Do you think anyone looks the same once they're not wearing tons of makeup, and have a small mustache across their lip??

  • Chaplin was the FIRST period

  • No, actually he was not "thrown out". He and his wife Oona took all their belongings and left for Europe. He was expecting that his travel permit would be revoked - and it was. He was an artist, but many of his friends were Communists, and he said some unfortunate things about Communist Russia that really put him in a bad light.

  • hoover? who the fuck is he?.. CHAPLIN> ICON

  • and you, who the fuck are you?? What did you do in your life asshole

  • dildo

  • I think Laurel and Hardy as comedy actors were genius who admired Chaplin, and don't forget the Three Stooges who later carried on the tradition.

  • Well try Buster Keaton. great comedic dead pan

  • Why Chaplin run away from USA? Becouse he dint want to be freemansory?

  • He was thrown out from USA because he was judged to be a communist, and that wasn't the first time he was charged for being red. So he moved to Switzerland with his wife Oona, to start a new life there in 1952.

  • Chaplin was English the first actor ever, how old are you?

  • he was a great man. hoover died the year chaplin got this oscar and the fbi asked the academy to honor hoover by not giving chaplin the oscar. the president told the fbi that hoover can go fuck himself. i would have told the fbi the same thing.

  • The old man is Chaplin? I wish he had stayed here.

  • He was banned from entry into the U.S. He had no choice.

  • why was he banned? i'd never heard that before.

  • Here in the world? lol don't think that was up to him.. or did you mean in the country?

  • Why do you show us so much of people TALKING about great moments, and so little of THE GREAT MOMENTS!!!

  • to be fair, every comic has influences. Copying and modify things to a certain creative extent is throughout the industry.

Chaplin in the sense of perfection in substance, but in real life sort of speak, he was being who he was. Moreover, he faces the great depression with such courage and extensive humanity into it, and to survive two wars, elaborate and hurtful divorces and relationships.. He is certainly a model to carry through.

I wish there will be a new Chaplin in time, in Hollywood.

  • Chaplin is a genious. He was and always will be the worlds greatest clown.

...but to be fair he wasn't kicked out of the country. He had left the country and J. Edger Hoover convinced officials to revoke his visa. Chaplin could have challanged this, but did not.

    J. Edger was wrong, but Chaplin was not thrown out. His return was triumphant and he will never be far from all our hearts.

  • If you watch Chaplin movies and understand his life, you will see that Chaplin (as the man and actor) should have won more Oscars than his ONLY one he got when he came back from Exile. I mean, He built Hollywood of what it is today, and American just kicked him out!!! :p

its crazy. Never do movies, they will only screw your life up!! :)

  • ENORMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • test

  • Bollox

  • well shit im a christian(not a particularly good one) and i have been on this planet for over 40yrs now.

im familiar with the bible to a point and cant understand why the jews are hated so much. this is not a joke only the hatred of them is the joke, a very very poor joke.

so can a "GOOD christian"tell me what the hatred is about?

  • And?

  • Chaplin was born on 16 April 1889, in East Street, Walworth, London.

  • His grandmother was half Romi, so easy Tiger, No need to say bad words. Don't matter what he was anyways, he was the best ever.. No one will ever come close...

  • please upload this again i missed it.

  • one of the best actors in hollywood

Podra alguien igualarte?? Lo dudo.Gracias por todo maestro!!!

  • Mr. charles chaplin was a romani go read wikipedia mother fuckers

  • Hey "motherfucker" he was born in England and even has a statue in his honor in London. YOU should go read Wikipedia.

  • Chaplin was born on 16 April 1889, in East Street, Walworth, London.

Your mothers dropping by my place tonight. Son.

  • IN HIS LIFE STORY BOOK SAYS HE WAS A GYPSY WIKIPEDIA TELLS TOO and he was very proud of it his grandmother was a romani sorry but the facts are reality

  • why u disable video ,,i want i download it,,

  • Not the Romani part, but the fact he was so talented.

  • Chaplin was ENGLISH, that's it. Although he made some great, pioneering films, he supposedly was a complete bellend.

  • tomes55moon thats the first I've head of him in that light- he was a perfectionist...and demanded nothing less from everyone. He also founded First Artists, giving many talented new commers a break. far less talent has been far more a dick head!

  • wot if he was jewish ???!!! No doubt he was greatest artist in cinema history. I as muslim loved his work as much as any one else. God bless him.

  • He was Romani.

    God definitely blessed him.

  • uhm..his grandmother was romani...but at first place he was a human

  • just watching chaplin is heart warming

  • His brother Syd was ½ Jewish, different fathers, so Charlie wasn't Jew, and it dosen't matter anything what he was but WHO he was.

  • If you asked me whom was the most inspired me in my whole life? as a kid grew up in southeast asia and the United State ? i would say, Bruce Lee and ofcouse Mr, Charlie Chaplin !

  • i think god has him sitting at his side, only him nobody else.........love to you master from greece

  • Charlie Chaplin is one of the great luminaries of this or any time. To see him on that stage, accepting his award, and his reward, is really overwhelming, especially considering... the awful things that were done to him during the era of McCarthyism. He's contributed SO MUCH to the art of moviemaking, both directly and indirectly. His influence can be seen in literally every film made since 1917, whether it be through his pioneering efforts in characterization, cinematography, or sheer JOY. JOY!

  • the legend of legends. may god bless your beautiful soul.

  • Chaplin, without revealing his true identity entered a Charlie Chaplin look alike contest and came in 2nd or 3rd. He did not win. lol!

  • he came 3rd

i have had it as a question on deal or no deal on them gamestar machines a few times

  • This scene was portrayed in the Richard Attenborough biopic "Chaplin".

  • chaplin gave us smiles, laughs, tears and kindness, simple is always more, today hollywood has no gifted actors or actresses, just plastic faces and emotion, chaplin was a gift to humanity.

  • I agree. I think Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was very moved by this tribute. I was so happy for him!

    Jeannemarie

  • In the early days Chaplin was considered not just a film maker and actor; he was acknowledged as an art form, like a great painter, dancer, or violinist. He is in the pantheon of the greatest in anything.

  • chaplin is god

  • Chaplin has the gift to bring the best that's inside of us. He's NECESSARY.

  • Chaplin was a genius. He also wrote one of the most beautiful songs of the 20th century; "SMILE".

    Paul

  • I LOVE that song--I already told my husband I want it played at my funeral.

  • Ohh, he also wrote Limelight, THE most beautiful song EVER.

  • Josh Groban sang "Smile" with the Boston Pops at Tanglewood in 2005. It was so moving you could hear a pin drop, then the audience went ape! It was the most beautiful song of the entire evening. When Josh told us that Chaplin had written it, the song became that much more meaningful.

  • oscar is not enough for chaplin.

he is more bigger than an award.

    hes a true legend.

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • looks like mccain

  • Nah, McCain's a little older....

  • Chaplin would have hated McCain.

  • ORLY?

  • Chaplin never Die!!

  • Chapling forever...
