also awesome idea with the jars! I'm waiting till summer to buy my own solar oven. I want to kind of ease my parents into doing things a little more naturally ya know? They have a ton of jars and we're really tight with money right now so hopefully they'll take to the idea. If not maybe they'll at least use it at the lake.
i have found its also possible to warm your body on a cold day by using a box of squar foot mirror tiles you can set them up and sit in a chair with a rifel and be quite comfortable while waiting for game to eat.
solar cooking may become just as important as having food to cook at all. if you had to start a campfire your location could be detected by smell for miles around and needles to say the food you once though was a meal soon becomes a death ticket.
Have you tried making macaroni & cheese in your solar oven? After viewing your video , I went and done to same thing , gotta say it works great , thank you for a great video
@vwsuperbeetle72 Hi, well, making mac and cheese is tricky and has to be watched carefully or you will have a huge lump of yuck! lol. Its done in two stages.
In one pan, you put your water in to get it hot and at boiling point. in second pan beside it, put your pasta in and cover both pans with lids. once the water is at boiling point, put the hot pasta in, stir well, cover and WATCH IT LIKE A HAWK for about 10 min. or so, depending on your oven temps.
My beans etc. cook faster without the black paint. With the clear glass you get the combination of radiant heat through direct exposure from the sun as well as conduction through the heating of the space or oven that the food is in. The thing that needs to be heated is the food, not the jar or chamber the food is in. Anyway, from my experience and hours of cooking in the sun, glass works a lot better than a black container.
It really depends on the cooker or oven you use. I have used jars side by side, cooking the exact same foods in various ovens, and found with some ovens, the black ones cook the food sometimes 30 min. faster. You have to use what works for you. many have told me once they painted the jars black found their rice and beans didn't have to be in the oven as long. some ovens are lower temps and need more of a boost with black cookware. great to see you are solar cooking.
It's a great way to be able to save leftovers, take what you want out, put the rest in the fridge, no extra pan to clean. Just be sure to NOT tighten the lid before putting it in, just turn it gently until it just begins to stop. If you tighten it too much, pressure can build up and make it explode. You can cook several items at once even a dessert this way. Very handy.
Always be sure to put the jars on a rack when you place them in your solar oven so that heat will circulate underneath them so they will cook faster. Make sure your oven is sitting level so no fluids will leak out of your jars into your oven.

Thank you for the tips, I will paint a bottle black to heat up water for my coffee.
Until now I prepared my coffe beforehand and put it in a transparent bottle to get to the right temperature.
I'll check out more vids of you in a while.
Best regards from Mexico

Thanks for info. I've never cooked in jars before in my solar oven, so I've got to try this.
