Scroll down and read starting from comment 1) and move up.
9) For this model, I think you should either increase water amount or at least modify the position of the sensor so that the screw faces the outside wall of the machine, make a small hole in the machine body, so that the adjustments can be done from the outside if required, without removing the cover (is would be also helpful for those who have a dryer stacked on top of washer).
8) I totally agree that sustainability and energy and resource saving are important and I think that most of the people these days are aware about this and already doing their best to live Green and reduce energy and water consumption. I think that population is mature enough to make a reasonable decisions on how much water to use for their wash. You can also put some logo beside such dial to remind people about the importance of fresh water resources. So please consider this for next model.
7) To SAMSUNG ENGINEERS. As you can see there are lots of people who are not happy with the amount water in the machine. Instead of making it harder to modify the machine, I think you should focus on how you can improve it. How about a dial that user can use to select the amount of water for the particular wash (lets say Low, Medium and High). I'm not sure , but I think that it will be first machine with such function.
6) For all those who wrecked the screw or rounded the slot. First try to remove the screw (you will need to do it anyway to get to the spring out). Then use small file to cut a new slot. Another option is to just buy a new sensor, it is only $15 and you can buy it at your appliance parts supplier. The part # is DC96-01703B. This might also be an option for those who are afraid to modify original sensor. Just buy another one. Modify it and then just switch with the one inside the machine.
5) Use a ruler to measure spring length (will be about 20 mm). You need to stretch it a little (I stretched mine to 25 mm). Put it back into the sensor, and screw the screw back into the sensor. Not all the way in. Mine is just flash with the top of the sensor and it gives me water to the bottom of the glass (the edge, where the glass changes from sloping inside the machine to the vertical face - this is what I used to have in Europe). You might need to run few cycles to find the right setting.
4) Here is what you need to do if two turns didn't make you happy. Remove this screw by turning it counter clock wise all the way. Don't worry your machine won't fall apart, just be careful last few turns as there is a spring underneath and the screw which might jump up a little and it then can fall down into the machine. Once you remove the screw you will find metal spring underneath and this is the detail which I think Samsung engineers modified since Tony's post.
3) So, turn it two turns, when you feel it does not go in anymore, stop and try the machine. The water level will be higher than the factory setting. If you are happy about it, close the machine and enjoy washing. I found that with just two turns there is still not enough water. I'm from Europe, where front loading machines are very popular, but they use way more water. This is why they wash cloths really well and people like them.
2) I think that in the recent releases of the machine Samsung engineers made some modifications to the sensor (may be they also read Tony's post). The sensor is all the same, but now you can only turn the screw maximum two more turns from the factory settings and that's it. I think that this is the reason why some people according to the comments below ended up with wrecking the screw trying hard to turn it six turns as recommended in the video.
1) First of all I would like to thank Tony for this post. Due to the limitations to the post length I had to split my post into nine parts. Below is my UPDATE which most of people might find useful. Hope Tony does not mind.
It actually is not always that high but it does in fact clean better with more water. The comments are proof. If this pile of shit machine cannot handle having water in it then what good is it? Have not had any problems so far.
@TonyStone31 Thanks for your video TonyStone... My wife and I have HATED our Samsung washing machine since purchasing it about 18 months ago. I always knew there should be more water and wasn't sure if it would be take an adjustment through the electronics to achieve it. Should have known it would be as simple as a pressure switch. I didn't waste ANY time in removind the top cover and adjusting the switch. Waiting for the first load to finish as I type! It can't be WORSE!
The water level in your vid is WAAAAAY TOO HIGH! That much water will severely shorten the life of the shaft seal, bearing and machine. Not only that, but the mechanical agitation & cleaning ability is reduced because the the clothes are now just "rolling around" in the water. No more "lift and drop", no more actual "tumbling". It's like putting your clothes in a large bucket, filling it with water and just sloshing it from side to side.... that is NOT going to get your clothes clean.
no no no make the screw come up a bit clothes should come up to top of drum and drop this cleans them best to much water makes them roll like this and it isnt good
Hey...wanted to tell you THANKS SO MUCH. I was able to get into my washer today. I actually had to pry because my WM2701HV washer doesn't slide back. You actually have to PRY [with a flathead screwdriver] on the sides until it pops open. At first I didn't see the switch cause it's in the back next to the electronics. But once I did, I screwed it in about 8 turns and filled the washer and SAW WATER! I've washed 2 loads of clothes THAT HAVE GOTTEN CLEAN! THANKS for the video and the help!!!!!!!
I have a LG pile of trash that's made by Samsung, or so I'm told. I took the same 2 screws out on it, but can't get the top off it! Did you have a hard time the first time you took it off? I really want to find the same thing that you're adjusting..I've dealt with this damned thing for a year now and unclean clothes. HELP ME!!! I've adjusted that same thing on a top loader years ago, so I can do it if I can just get into it! Any suggestions????
Tony, I can't seem to find a better machine. All these HE machines seem to be crap. What washer would you tell someone to buy and is there a way to turn off the Automatic Temperature Control if it refuses to use hot water?
I did this to my wf220 and it works great. Not as much water as you've got and it's turned up all the way. But much better. Thanks for your help on this. BTW, I hate all this 'green' crap. It's not really about conservation but money. It makes me want to change my oil over the sewer drain every time I hear it.
@platinumreflex When I get a chance I will play with my washer and figure out a way to make it use all hot water. I have some ideas already but let me get into mine and make it work first. I really haven't noticed that problem but I will defiantly figure it out for you! :)
one more question...when I use a warm wash, or even a hot wash for that matter, the water temp still feels like a cold/lukewarm wash on hot. Is there a plug or something I can remove to make it use more hot water, or adjust some sort of water temp. sensor?
I've got the exact same model, and ran across this video. I'm assuming that the less you turn the screw clockwise, the less water the machine will use? I'm not sure that I want mine to fill half-way up the glass door, but it most definately needs MORE water. I'm assuming that I could start out with 2-3 turns, test out the water level and give it few more turns if I'm still not getting as much as I want? Correct me if I'm wrong.
New washer arrived today and we were excited. Until the wife tried it out and there was litterally almost no water. We thought it was a dud. Found this video an am so grateful. Modified ours in less than 3 minutes. Be sure you use a pretty big philips screwdriver. Same one worked for the screws on back and the adjustment screw and for the screw I used to remove the blue reducer. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! U R AWESOME.
Awesome! My stupid, "Samsung pile of trash front loading high efficiency Al Gore washing machine," has ruined all of my husbands Jos A. Banks work shirts because it cannot clean the pit stains. There just isn't enough water. We are totally going to modify our washer tomorrow. I'll give an update on how it goes. :D
Hey--I think my wife hit this on the head---the manufacturers know that many people do not get their clothes real dirty--so they make these things like they make the 1 gallon flush toilets---not to use much water. For those who do auto work and whatever, this is not enough. Much agreed that 4 gallons of water can not clean. I'll probably end up changing ours (just purchased), Thanks for the hands on video.
@d46512 Your right. Most people will get much better results by getting the water line just visible. I am probably going to turn mine down just a little because my drywell backs up in the winter time. So a little less water for me wont be a bad idea. But it still needs to use more than what it uses from the factory.
Hey Tony, I just want to thank you very much for taking your time in making & posting this video. It was a big help. I followed everything exactly you said. It was easy & you were very clear. I notice my clothes are cleaner & my washer doesn't smell anymore. On top of that, with the water level that i have set it to, its good to know that all the soap and stuff will be rinsed away on the final rinse. I also removed the blue cap too. It made the filling faster. Thanks again very much.
How long have you been running the machine with the pressure sensor turned all the way up? Seems it is using far more water than needed. Have you tried to turn the screw back a turn or two? I would thing the clothes will come out as clean a bit less water than you are using now. Thanks for the tip.
Glad you found a fix for your machine. Best I could do is to get the GE folks to give me a old fashioned agitator as a replacement. Hopefully, it will wash clothes better than the clunker I have now! Otherwise, I will be using my Riverwasher and piss off Gore more.
Hey tony i cant seem to get mine to work, i turned the screw hard, but it did nothing but reck the screw now its just a circle and i cant get any screw driver to trun it now? any suggestions to get this screw to turn,
@platinumreflex Well it sounds like you rounded it out. Your probably screwed now. Order a new pressure switch. You probably didn't use a big enough screw driver. Try getting the tip of a flat head screw driver real hot and push it into the top of the screw just a little bit so it melts a slot into it then let it cool down and then use the slot to turn it. You should have tried a different screw driver before you rounded out all the plastic....
@platinumreflex Show me a picture. You can probably still get it to turn with a flat head screw driver... just get a screw driver that fits across the slots a little better...
I sure can't wait to do this Tony!! I'm 3000 away from my washer, and hubby's doesn't want to get into it, so I gotta pull the big dude out from it's cubbyhole and get to those 2 screws on the back MYSELF!!
@ywmpg Make a video for everyone when you do it so people can see how easy it is. I like your videos. Then I can take mine down because I don't like having videos of myself out there. lol. I know you will be much happier with your machine when you do this to it. I can actually say now that my machine works better than any top loader I have ever used.
@ywmpg Make sure you don't round out the screw like the person above me did. Make sure your screw driver fits in the pressure switch pretty good. Use a flat head in the pressure switch if its a better fit.
This fix worked on my Daewoo also. Probably universal to adjust to the Water Pressure switch. Thanks so much TONY. Your a marriage saver. :-)
