  • Inside the DCIM Folder you must name re-name the audio or movie file to IMG_1234.mp3 . You don't fill in the extension that remains what came with the file so never change the extension but you must change the name to IMG followed by the _ then any four digits and that's it. The .jpg or whatever the dot extension it he file had leave that. I have imported M4v, mp3, m4a, mov, I was even able to copy my audio files directly to my music library once they were imported into my iPad, however w

  • heyy, when i plug in my usb formatted with fat32 and i have the DCMI file, but it says the usb requires to much power? its only 1gb, can i fix this??? cheers

  • Can you play whole movies from a USB drive?

  • Using a powered hub solves the power problem.

  • Can you also import videos?

  • OMG thanks man!!

  • is that cam glued to ur head?

  • @MazaiiiC LOL, it's on a tripod and i'm standing behind it.

  • What is DCIM?

  • @715Diachan DCIM stands for "Digital Camera Images", it's standard for all imaging devices to create DCIM folders to store image files.

  • Whatnis dcim?

  • @715Diachan i think DCIM is where apple stores all your music and videos

  • I need to import documents, is it possible?

  • @nothingbutcandy You can, but not with the Camera Connection Kit. You'd have to sync them through iTunes or download them the web via cloud services or e-mail.

  • i don't care about importing my photos ( but i could try it some time)

    CAN YOU IMPORT WORD DOCUMENTS???

  • @Beto27C No, you'd have to download them from the web or iTunes through syncing.

  • i love you man thanks, it works like a charm !! :D

  • @Halllejua Thanks, glad to hear it :).

  • When I do it, it says the usb device uses too much power. Any help would be appreciated. Using a 4GB Scandisk.

  • @LimonPhipps Unfortunately, this is a common issue since iOS 4.2, they reduced the power output so it can no longer power many USB flash drives. Technically, the kit is only compatible with SD cards or cameras that contain their own power source.

  • hey ,

From where did you got the port on which you attached pen drive and which you attached to ipad ??????????

  • @vishalbhardwaj546 I purchased the iPad Camera Connection Kit directly from Apple.

  • Can i connect a flash memory to my ipad ? Plz reply fast :O

  • @xXxAhmedTarekxXx Sorry, I wasn't very fast to reply, but you can connect some flash drives to the iPad...but most of them draw too much power.

  • Can i import from word document to my ipad through a flash drive like this?

  • @bshimmel1992 i HAVE THE SAME QUESTION... !!!SOME ONE!! PLEASE HELP!! HAHA

  • @Beto27C Ok, guys. I guess u probably have founded out how to view word documents on the iPad by now, but I'm gonna tell u anyways.

Download a program called "Dropbox" on your computer, and create a user for free.

Then go ahead and download "Dropbox" in the appstore from your iPad.

Back to your computer: u want to drop the word document in the folder called Dropbox (that u just created).

Log into ur dropbox user on the iPad, and tap on the word file.

    And you're done!

  • @bshimmel1992 No, you can only import images and video with this method. For documents you will need to use the web or iTunes syncing.

  • this doesn't work anymore. a recent ipad update limited the amount of power supplied via the port. flash drive requires too much power to connect to the ipad with the reduced power supply.

  • Where did you buy that??? I really need one

  • @YungPoRo This is the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit which you can buy directly from Apple.

  • it's device is compatible with Ipad 2 IOS 4.3.3 ?

  • @TheWolfspirity It is, but iOS 4.2 dropped the power output so many unpowered devices will no longer work, such as most USB flash drives.

  • quick check please, can u save any data on the usb? thanks.

  • @anotherraybanfan You can't export data to the USB.

  • Hello i gotta question if we make a folder of just music or word documents will it work too? or does it just work with pics?

  • @KiDfreZhx10 It only works with movies or photos, it wont' recognize anything else.

  • can you please show us how you reformatted your memory stick, etc?

  • @mokamo23 in OSX, go to Spotlight and search "Disk Utility", select the USB thumb drive, select Erase, and choose FAT32 for the file system.

  • hi..i used your method but the ipad said that there is no photo to import. please advice. i put the picture in DCIM folder

  • @PejuangNusantara There might be issues with your file names, or the format is not recognized.

  • @PejuangNusantara once you format the flash drive using the ipad software, all contents in the flash are lost. but the flash data is ready to be used with your ipad next time you up load data.

  • what camera have?

  • @MrFast35 i was filming with a Flip MinoHD at this time.

  • @DetroitBORG

I just got my ipad camera connection kit today. It works fine with my dad's Cannon camera. The problem comes when I try to use it with a thumb drive. It's a sandisk cruzer 8 gig. I reformatted it with fat32 and after erasing all of my data making a file, containing all of my pictures, labled DCIM. I've tried earasing and repeating the process 3 times. Do you have any idea what I could be doing Wrong?

  • is that a usb adaptor for the ipad?

  • @21nexion This is the iPad Camera Connection Kit.

  • y they not gave USB along with the ipod, ok if they not give they supposed to be provide the usb connector and some connector with that... why they making fools..if they want customers benefits they can do..but they thinking about themselves only..tat's y it's sucks....pls realize and show easy way to customers, they u can increase ur product sales.

  • Does it work with iphone ?

  • @super50cent4life No, it doesn't work with iPhone.

  • i have a question. can i install and plug in the wireless usb on my ipad 2,and will it work? plz answer,i really need to know before i buy it. thnx

  • @TheStroka93 I think it's very doubtful because the iPad only outputs 20mA, which isn't sufficient to power Wireless USB. A standard USB port outputs at least 500mA

  • Can you get a flash drive to work with the iPad besides just moving photos around?

  • @KingDD3 Jailbreakers will tell you that you can use it for more than importing photos and videos, but in the confines of the native iOS software there is nothing more you can do.

  • Can you use videos

  • There is a jail broken way it's called I file search it on Cydia and you don't have to import the video to your iPad you can just watch it str8 off it

  • Is that Jailbroken? I hope not.

I got my IPad2 3 days ago and I noticed that when I for example import a South Park season to my Ipad it takes up a whole lot of space! =D (4Gb actually)

I was thinking about getting a USB 64Gb Flash Drive and hook it up with my Ipad.

If someone can answer is that possible? After seeing this video I think it is. =)

  • @MrGuitarrica i don't think it has to be jailbroken, since the camera kit is an official apple product. ohh, and im not completely sure about the maximum storage it can handle, but keep in mind that a FAT32 flashdrive can only support files less than 4GB in size.

  • @MrGuitarrica Nope, not jailbroken. It's possible, if the iPad can playback the video you're importing. Keep in mind you can't playback from the USB drive, you have to import the video, which just means you import only the episodes you're going to watch and then delete them so you can get the other episodes. Some USB drives draw too much power however and won't work, I have more recent videos on that, just search "Camera Connection Kit" on my channel.

  • @DetroitBORG how cool this is !! and not have to jailbreak my ipad !! two questions: 1) can this work with the ipad 1 (first generation) and any specific usb drive to use ? thanks bunches !!

  • @954Lizzy Yes, this is actually a demo on the original iPad. And I can't verify which USB drives work, I only have old ones. I can tell you that all the current Sandisk drives don't seem to work.

  • Great solution! You can also use Mac OS extended (journaled) format. It's the DCIM folder that is critical

  • Sooo what this adapter called so I can search it???

  • @nawarss Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit

  • Can I buy this adapter at apple.com?

  • @123ton456 Yes!

  • @DetroitBORG OK

  • Where I can get this USB adapter to connect it to my iPad Then connect the USB flash ????

  • @nawarss Apple, Amazon, Ebay...many retailers sell them.

  • Would this work with one of those usbs that give you Internet anywhere

  • @jamie2k110 No, networking isn't supported over the USB connector.

  • dan you take photos from the ipad and put them on the flash

  • @viddrag No, you can only import from the flash drive.

  • Agreed I need to be able to work with word docs if I buy one

  • Can this work on my ipodtouch?

  • @myrc10gt No, only iPad.

  • How about PDF and words documents?

  • @wildreams No, only photos or videos can be imported to the gallery. Jailbreaking is required to allow additional fucntionality.

  • Can u plug your flip into it and record a video

  • @fails2much You can only transfer the files from the Flip, you can't use the iPad to record video with the camera.

  • btw these features are only supported on 3.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2..apple reduced the amperage of the ipad's usb port, so you will need an extra power source for doing these things

  • @sadisticcompulsion Yep! Nothing works predictably with the power reduction, even USB thumb drives.

  • DetroitBORG, Thank you for this helpful video which I added it to my favourites. I have a question? Do you think if there is any differences in the screen between the iPad & iPad2?

Is the screen in the iPad considered to be a HD screen? i'm planning to buy an iPad soon but I don't wanna rush in because i'm really into the screens? I have an iPhone 4 and there is a big differences between an iPhone4 screen & iPhone 3GS?

    Thanks

  • @accord536 All indication are that the iPad 2 will have the same screen resolution as the current model, but we'll find out on Wednesday :). The screen of the iPad screen is not considered HD, which would be 1080x720, the iPad is 1024 by 768. The iPhone 4 is 960-by-640, but of course on a much smaller screen.

  • Is is it possible to transfer video files from a USB flash drive and watch video content on the iPad? I have small clips as well a 2 movies, and if it not is there

  • @Mrthrust31 Yes, but the iPad can only playback certain file types and at certain resolutions. You can find the specificiations on the Apple iPad Tech Specs site.

  • can i transfer word documents from a pc to an ipad?

  • @14981498 You can't with the Camera Connection kit, but I'll send you a great article on this which will show you other means.

  • DetroitBORG, will iPad recognize other files than photos from the USB Drive? Will I need any particular file management app to access the content of the USB Drive? Thanks you, Raquel.

  • @kelcampos The biggest one I tested was 8GB, it should work with 32GB, yes.

  • DetroitBORG, will iPad recognize other files than photos from the USB Drive? Will I need any particular file management app to access the content of the USB Drive? Thanks you, Raquel.

  • @kelcampos Just video and photo files, no other files will be read. The iPad uses the photo gallery app to read the files for import.

  • will this work with iphone? :)

  • @MrCj123lane You can only import video or photos from the iPhone to the iPad, you can't use it on the iPhone itself.

  • Is it true that this only works with up to 2G thumb drives?

  • @Kodak54 No, it will work with any thumb drive that doesn't draw too much power, Apple has reduce the amount of power output through the USB connector so many thumb drives don't work anymore.

  • @DetroitBORG What is the biggest thumb drive you tested, will it work with a 32 gig drive? and do you think you can get a large capacity external drive to work if it has another power source? Thanks

  • I ment to say movie im on my ipad right now

  • Could you try and put a mobie on the usb and see if it plays on your ipad oplease because i really want to know if i should buy on

  • @Sharpyboi36 It does, but you have to import it and it can only playback iTunes compatible files.

  • Are you able to put videos on the USB drive and play them also? And have you tried this method with an external hard drive to see if the Ipad will recognize it. I love what your doing here by solving a problem that many of us have with storage on the Ipad. Thank you.

  • @nycresistance You have to import the video to the iPad in order to playback, and not all video files are compatible with iPad. Yes, I've tried with a USB External Drive and it doesn't work, keep in mind that iOS 4.2 has reduced the power output of the dock connector meaning very few unpowered devices work with the kit, incluidng many USB thumb drives.

  • @DetroitBORG They have an app called " Movie Player " that is suppose to play any movie format. Perhaps that might play more of your videos. Thanks for the response and please continue to bring us more information. I was swaying away from apple but I just can't beat the app selection they have. thanks again

  • Cool voice

  • I did everything you said but it keeps saying No Photos to Import when i have photos in there

  • @romils1ify You have photos in a DCIM folder and they have a compatible file extension like .JPG?

  • Does this work with an iPod ?

  • @pez162 Nope!

  • @DetroitBORG thanks anyway...I wish iPads were more like a real computer but I love mine and it can do nothing but improve over the years anyway :)

  • Can you view documents, edit them, save them back onto the flash drive that way?

  • @HiDc8 Not unless the iPad is jailbroken.

  • @DetroitBORG how do u do it with a jailbreak?

  • I want to know how to get documents on my iPad from a flash drive but I don't think there is a way to do that is there???

  • @KyGlenise Unforutantely not without jailbreaking.

  • How do you actually format it??

I understand that you need to format it a certain way, but how? Where do I go?

I own a PC if that makes the answer any easier.

    Thanks!

  • @showjumper322 It should already be formatted in FAT32, but to do it again just attached your USB drive, right click on the device, select format, choose FAT32, viola!

  • thanks for the video my friend!

i have only one question for you!

i have one web camera logitech..it will work if you have jailbreak the ipad?(or the usb is only for photos and videos and not for webcamera?)

  • do u put videos in the DCIM folder and do they have to be mp4 format? And where do u watch them on your ipad?

  • @van15nguyen4 Correct, videos must be in the DCIM folder to be recognized by the iPad. And it will import .mpg, .avi, or .mov files but the iPad may not be able to play them back. The iPad Apple website has tech specs on what type of videos can be played back.

  • is it only photos you can upload, or can it be documents e.g .doc?

  • @TheJeffernator Just photos and videos.

  • @DetroitBORG

    k

    cheers :)

  • @DetroitBORG Can you format the document as a Pfd then Put it on? Also Can You show how to format the drive?
