Sir, i hav an ipad 1 64gb.how can i use my pendrive with it? my pendrive is in fat32 formate.. should i do anything else to transfer files from pendrive to ipad.. plzzzzz bro give me solution.. facing trouble with it... :(
heyy, when i plug in my usb formatted with fat32 and i have the DCMI file, but it says the usb requires to much power? its only 1gb, can i fix this??? cheers
@nothingbutcandy You can, but not with the Camera Connection Kit. You'd have to sync them through iTunes or download them the web via cloud services or e-mail.
@LimonPhipps Unfortunately, this is a common issue since iOS 4.2, they reduced the power output so it can no longer power many USB flash drives. Technically, the kit is only compatible with SD cards or cameras that contain their own power source.
this doesn't work anymore. a recent ipad update limited the amount of power supplied via the port. flash drive requires too much power to connect to the ipad with the reduced power supply.
@PejuangNusantara once you format the flash drive using the ipad software, all contents in the flash are lost. but the flash data is ready to be used with your ipad next time you up load data.
I just got my ipad camera connection kit today. It works fine with my dad's Cannon camera. The problem comes when I try to use it with a thumb drive. It's a sandisk cruzer 8 gig. I reformatted it with fat32 and after erasing all of my data making a file, containing all of my pictures, labled DCIM. I've tried earasing and repeating the process 3 times. Do you have any idea what I could be doing Wrong?
y they not gave USB along with the ipod, ok if they not give they supposed to be provide the usb connector and some connector with that... why they making fools..if they want customers benefits they can do..but they thinking about themselves only..tat's y it's sucks....pls realize and show easy way to customers, they u can increase ur product sales.
@TheStroka93 I think it's very doubtful because the iPad only outputs 20mA, which isn't sufficient to power Wireless USB. A standard USB port outputs at least 500mA
@KingDD3 Jailbreakers will tell you that you can use it for more than importing photos and videos, but in the confines of the native iOS software there is nothing more you can do.
There is a jail broken way it's called I file search it on Cydia and you don't have to import the video to your iPad you can just watch it str8 off it
I got my IPad2 3 days ago and I noticed that when I for example import a South Park season to my Ipad it takes up a whole lot of space! =D (4Gb actually)
I was thinking about getting a USB 64Gb Flash Drive and hook it up with my Ipad.
If someone can answer is that possible? After seeing this video I think it is. =)
@MrGuitarrica i don't think it has to be jailbroken, since the camera kit is an official apple product. ohh, and im not completely sure about the maximum storage it can handle, but keep in mind that a FAT32 flashdrive can only support files less than 4GB in size.
@MrGuitarrica Nope, not jailbroken. It's possible, if the iPad can playback the video you're importing. Keep in mind you can't playback from the USB drive, you have to import the video, which just means you import only the episodes you're going to watch and then delete them so you can get the other episodes. Some USB drives draw too much power however and won't work, I have more recent videos on that, just search "Camera Connection Kit" on my channel.
@DetroitBORG how cool this is !! and not have to jailbreak my ipad !! two questions: 1) can this work with the ipad 1 (first generation) and any specific usb drive to use ? thanks bunches !!
@954Lizzy Yes, this is actually a demo on the original iPad. And I can't verify which USB drives work, I only have old ones. I can tell you that all the current Sandisk drives don't seem to work.
btw these features are only supported on 3.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2..apple reduced the amperage of the ipad's usb port, so you will need an extra power source for doing these things
DetroitBORG, Thank you for this helpful video which I added it to my favourites. I have a question? Do you think if there is any differences in the screen between the iPad & iPad2?
Is the screen in the iPad considered to be a HD screen? i'm planning to buy an iPad soon but I don't wanna rush in because i'm really into the screens? I have an iPhone 4 and there is a big differences between an iPhone4 screen & iPhone 3GS?
@accord536 All indication are that the iPad 2 will have the same screen resolution as the current model, but we'll find out on Wednesday :). The screen of the iPad screen is not considered HD, which would be 1080x720, the iPad is 1024 by 768. The iPhone 4 is 960-by-640, but of course on a much smaller screen.
Is is it possible to transfer video files from a USB flash drive and watch video content on the iPad? I have small clips as well a 2 movies, and if it not is there
@Mrthrust31 Yes, but the iPad can only playback certain file types and at certain resolutions. You can find the specificiations on the Apple iPad Tech Specs site.
DetroitBORG, will iPad recognize other files than photos from the USB Drive? Will I need any particular file management app to access the content of the USB Drive? Thanks you, Raquel.
DetroitBORG, will iPad recognize other files than photos from the USB Drive? Will I need any particular file management app to access the content of the USB Drive? Thanks you, Raquel.
@Kodak54 No, it will work with any thumb drive that doesn't draw too much power, Apple has reduce the amount of power output through the USB connector so many thumb drives don't work anymore.
@DetroitBORG What is the biggest thumb drive you tested, will it work with a 32 gig drive? and do you think you can get a large capacity external drive to work if it has another power source? Thanks
Are you able to put videos on the USB drive and play them also? And have you tried this method with an external hard drive to see if the Ipad will recognize it. I love what your doing here by solving a problem that many of us have with storage on the Ipad. Thank you.
@nycresistance You have to import the video to the iPad in order to playback, and not all video files are compatible with iPad. Yes, I've tried with a USB External Drive and it doesn't work, keep in mind that iOS 4.2 has reduced the power output of the dock connector meaning very few unpowered devices work with the kit, incluidng many USB thumb drives.
@DetroitBORG They have an app called " Movie Player " that is suppose to play any movie format. Perhaps that might play more of your videos. Thanks for the response and please continue to bring us more information. I was swaying away from apple but I just can't beat the app selection they have. thanks again
@showjumper322 It should already be formatted in FAT32, but to do it again just attached your USB drive, right click on the device, select format, choose FAT32, viola!
@van15nguyen4 Correct, videos must be in the DCIM folder to be recognized by the iPad. And it will import .mpg, .avi, or .mov files but the iPad may not be able to play them back. The iPad Apple website has tech specs on what type of videos can be played back.

How do you actually format it??
I understand that you need to format it a certain way, but how? Where do I go?
I own a PC if that makes the answer any easier.
Thanks!

@showjumper322 It should already be formatted in FAT32, but to do it again just attached your USB drive, right click on the device, select format, choose FAT32, viola!

do u put videos in the DCIM folder and do they have to be mp4 format? And where do u watch them on your ipad?
van15nguyen4 1 year ago
@van15nguyen4 Correct, videos must be in the DCIM folder to be recognized by the iPad. And it will import .mpg, .avi, or .mov files but the iPad may not be able to play them back. The iPad Apple website has tech specs on what type of videos can be played back.
