You could also run backwards while quickly tapping the pick-up button; the momentum of the item falling will be quicker then couch-picking up. I found this out when people I was playing with went on break, so I had to kill time and discovered this.

Survival requires a shitload more than "playing smart." You absolutely cannot leave your teammates; running that far to get supplies is not a good idea by any means.

...Besides, I'd say this qualifies as "playing smart."

i moved guns around by putting laser sights on the ones i wanted to move and kept tapping X and walking i had 12 guns where i was making my stand

yeah i do that but the team i played with didnt help me move the guns or med kits and stuff and they didnt even use them........ so we all got killed in around 5 minutes XP

Actually, finding that if you spam "+/-use" fast enough, you can look in any direction and move, literally juggling the two items, it may not be hard to implement this realistically. Heck, it may even be possible with more than one (juggling competition, anyone?).

Pro-tactic if you use melee weapons: Shoving while using a melee weapon is delayed by attacking with it. Switch weapons (most easily with "lastinv" (default: Q)) right after attacking with a melee weapon to be able to shove immediately. And of course, be one with the Frying Pan.

Of course, a looping (rapid-fire) script! However, I still don't find this tactic terribly useful except for bringing the items past points-of-no-return like the RV in level 2 of the Parish.
