  • Has anyone pointed out that his English is better and more natural than many American tenors (such as Richard Crooks), Crooks with his silly rolled "r"s when they are often silent in English, sounds more middle European and teutonic than Tauber with his natural diction...

  • @JackRance1910 But it was not just his Viennese accent, he was charming on stage, and it just became his style, and he was a very big star over here, and few fans thought his accent anything but an addition to his music making.

  • I miss the old upload of this same record here, which did not run slightly flat the way this one does. What happened to the good one?

  • A singer of style who was able to rebuild his career when forced to flee the Nazis. It was mittel Europe's loss.

  • @LePrince1890 It must have been tragic to have to start your career all over again and to have to learn to speak English, but I think he made a bigger following here in England, although we were at war with his home country., the song "my heart is still in Vienna", took on a different meaning when he sang this song. He could not sing in German during the war years, of course not "politically correct for those times.

  • @TAUBERFANLEHAR2 "Politically incorrect" or downright deadly for him. Though you never know. Some of the Nazi leaders (if they liked your entertainment abilities) might make an exception for you. But I don't think Tauber would have been willing to do that.
