IMHO you're correct that there's not enough focus on introspection/reflection, but incorrect in denying the importance of the external. Even Victor Frankl would have preferred not to be in a concentration camp. The spiritual/philosophical knowledge of the "East" is vast, but there's a tendency, esp. among New Age devotees, to utterly dismiss "Western" values, which, for all their flaws, created the vantage point of material wealth from which to self-criticize and look abroad in the first place.

Great question! The trap is in thinking "one day"; the time is NOW. There is nowhere to get to. Instead of trying to fix the mind, it is better to just accept & observe it. Everyday you will have ever expanding drops of enlightenment even when the mind is active. Throughout the day return to the breath as an anchor and you will find you already have everything you need & you no longer need a destination. Check out my video "Fire Your Guru". This video should be an eye opener on how people allow external things to affect their emotions. For me, I've learned to take the "don't care" approach to things that may cause a negative affect on my mind and cause my emotions to take a wrong turn. In a way, it's kind of like your sister did with you picking on her. My experience is sort of a similar thing to that which helped me to realize this. However, there are still some things that affect me and your vid helped me realize this. Thank you.
