Sadly, there are folks in the City of Katy (or the Katy Suburbs) who have no idea how their town got its name. They think that Katy was named after Katy Perry, or some other such nonsense.
News flash: It was named after this railroad. (The last two letters in the name are pronounced KAY TEE, hence the town was named Katy.) Without this railroad, and the whistle stop it had west of Houston, Katy would have never existed.
this video is day crew making up train at eureka yards houston my dad retired in 89 this was 85 was probably my dad switching they came out of eureka yards and crossed over sp tracks
Check out the very end of the video. In the background you can make out an old GULF OIL sign above the overpass. Too bad those are gone too. THANK YOU CHEVRON!!!
damn this was the good ol days I was 10 years old when this video was made I loed the MKT I trully miss them they used to arrive in my hometown on a branch from Dallas Tx to Denton to connect with the MO Pac which is now long gone the branch I ment but I remember these geeps fondly arriveing on locals and that classic sound both trully missed I definatlly miss hearing those MKT S5T horns on the SD40-2s that blew through town on the MO Pac amd I miss the old Mo Pac too RIP both great railroads

Has anyone noticed that all of the old telegraph poles along the railroads are now disappearing?

Great stuff. I am sorry I did not pay more attention to the trains when the Katy was around. Great railroad.

Man, I love that last one's horns. Reminds
me of the old locomotives of the Texas-
Mexican Railway.

Thanks--corrected it. Should have checked the number. The Dieselshop dot us is a good resource.

Nice footage! Just a small correction: the 361 is actually a late model GP39-2, built in 1984.
