  • no words ....... just emotions..... =0 so good im freaking out . Amazing

  • Is where it's at!

  • @harodugan i'm curious about your question. If you don't know what accent it is, or where it is from, how do you know that it is fake? Again, I am simply expressing curiosity.

  • Oh what a lovely precious dream. Open your heart to what I mean. In the whole world you know there are billion boys & girls who are YG&B. And that’s a fact! We must begin to tell our young, there’s a world waiting for you. When you feel really low, there’s a great truth you should know. When you’re YG&B,your soul’s intact. How I long to know the truth. There are times when I look back& I am haunted by my youth. Oh but my joy of today is that we can all be proud to say,to be YG&B is where it’s at.

  • sounds like the beatles borrowed this from her

  • @tygerrstile Haha, no.

  • @Rukafucker .. oh ok well that solves the mystery. thx

  • indie arie looks like her

  • luv her!!!.....

  • I Love this, leaves me with a warm, good feeling,

  • This video has put me in such a good mood.

  • Nina was young talented and sensitive.

  • Damn, she was beautiful! It pains me to see our woman so wrapped up in phoniness. Fake hair, fake nails, shitloads of makeup. This is what's up! I remember having an arguement about the beauty of black women. Specifically Nina Simone and Vanessa Williams. It hurt to hear my black brother call Nina ugly just because she's dark. "The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice!"

  • Their was an era on this earth when dark skin was "in"...

  • @wmdbassplayer Of course Nina was a great beauty cause she totally accepted her african roots, she didn't ignored them. she was the gold of american culture.

  • Beautiful Sista!

  • what a lady. such an African angel with a melodic voice. angelic musicians like her comes once in a while.

"There are billion boys and girls

Who are young, gifted and black,

    And thats a fact!

  • Thank you for posting this. What a beautiful song - Young, gifted, and black. I never knew she was the originator.

  • so good!!

  • this is divine. how poor and cheap does contemporary music seem compare to this....

  • You're right this is amazing. Nina Simone's legacy is untouchable. However, only mainstream contemporary music is "poor and cheap." Listen to some non-mainstream hip hop, jazz and soul and you'll find amazing people of color empowering other young people of color.

  • i actually do, but it seems that really really few such bands/musicians exists nowadays, do you have any suggestions?

  • come and see us - maryandmartin1 and some covers at mandmcovers.

I believe mary is one of our great singer/songwriters like Nina - and we recorded some of our songs in Nymegan Holland where Nina spent a bit of time - (walking around the hotel in her fur coat naked underneath, That's Nina not Mary by the way). We spent a few nights in the

hotel by the river there and heard this story.

  • "You all remember Lorainne Hansbery who wrote Raisin in the Sun.....huh?"....God I love Nina Simone!!

  • I can't believe I can find this on YouTube! Technology has a mighty fine place!

I'm so lucky to have heard Ms. Simone sing live and now my babies can watch it on the computer. Pretty cool!

  • she lived and died in marseille in the south of france.

    a great lady.

  • African Heroine! lol

Nothing like a strong Black Female to 'take up the slack' when the men are TEMPORARILY down and out. lol

  • preach that sister!

  • Wow.

  • i mean seriously she is a real black woman with pride

  • she is what a beautiful black woman is all about

  • AMEN!!!!!!!!

  • I just love listening to her talk! I wish someone would have made a movie just of her discussing her music, her philosophy, her life, everything!! I would soooo buy it!

  • She was soooooo Beautiful- The most Beautiful woman ever- I would have been afraid to approach her because of her tremendous beauty. What a soul sista!!!!

  • Damn! I wish that I could have been there, unfortunately my mom was only a year old at that time! I probably would have been kicked out of the concert because I would have jumped on the stage and hugged Nina or something! I love Nina Simone- She was a Goddess!

  • she hould have seen obama b the president her heart would melt

  • what a treat! Pity the audio drags behind the image. Timecode problems, ironic given the TC numbers cloud the video. She's a goddess.

  • Wow! Just think, all these brothers and sisters there listening to Nina. Feeling the power of her words. The energy must have been insane! This is when we as a people actually had respect, and pride for ourselves and for each other. Nina, we need you. Yes, even now.

  • i look like nina and i'll be casted to play her in a movie

    very soon

  • When martin luther king died she spent alot of time in england, barbados and africa. Thats why her accent sounds like a mixture of them all.

  • God bless this woman; her heart and her message is unmatched.RIP.

  • rip weldon irvine

  • God I wish she was still alive. She and Marvin Gaye rocking with Obama would be amazing.

  • Oh this is something special. i can feel the anger..

  • passion maybe.

  • this is the first time I heard this. I heard aretha franklin sing this.

  • Sometimes we forget what a great songwriter Nina Simone was. This song (Young,Gifted, and Black) was just as important as James Brown's Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud. Nina was a griot, she spoke wisdom and proverbs.

  • I love her india.arie is like her

  • Yeah, not really.

  • Yeah really

  • How are they alike? India hasn't done anything note worthy besides a song or two over the course of her career. I fail to see how India and Nina Simone are similar other than the obvious physical similarities. If India is similar it's purely because of Nina's influence, and in that case there are hundreds of thousands of artists like her.

  • Oh, man.

Not young, not black, pretty gifted...but that doesn't matter. Anyone can understand this, and how beautiful it is.

  • Nina is the greatest

  • Thank God for Nina Simone!

  • Although I'm young, but not gifted and black, I try to imagine what it would feel like for the audience to hear that song. Certainly in that period and context. I think it must have been a thrill for them.

  • OH YES!!!!!! AMAZING

  • It's so sweet to see our People of the Sun with their natural Halos on their heads groovin to the beautiful music of this beautiful Sista and Queen of amazing music.

    RIGHT ON!!!
