The demo starting at 5:25 is so fake and preset. You can see that the torii in white kimono is waiting for the other one to be immobilized an only after that he attacks. After this the torii in blue kimono attacks without very slowly. Let's face it, the demonstrations that sensei Laiber does are not among the best. I've seen him live in Japan and I wasn't impressed at all, he and his colleagues from the Maroto-ha lacked the true samurai warrior spirit. (IMHO)
and to add to the explanation... Takeda Ryu is technically a dead art. By this I mean that there is no headmaster/central school that survived to this day. My understanding, from the teacher I had, was the last head of the school didn't declare an heir. So the four senior students went off and did their own things calling it Takeda rRyu. This does not mean what you study is illegitimate, just means direct line can be traced any more.
@sceptre1067 I studied takeda-ryu under Jim Kenny, who lived in Japan and taught English for 7 years, while he studeid. We brought his instructor to the U.S. for a seminar. His name is Toyashima Masayuki, a direct lineage of Takeda. You may want to contact him for more info on direct lineage. It was extremely realistic training, not like some other Aiki training I have studied. "Dead" art, I don't think so. Jim lives in Mandeville, La. Good Luck.
@shureikanshihan sorry.. by dead I mean the main branch came to an end when the soke passed away in 1959 w/out leaving a successor. Several of his students carried on teaching Takeda ryu but none can claim "direct liniage" as none were named soke. So side branches are active, just the main "unbroken" branch no longer exists. So hence saying "technically dead".
@KievAMF Takeda Ryu is concidered the first Aikijujutsu style. It is the father style of Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, which is the style Morihei Ueshiba(O-Sensei) developed modern Aikido from. Hope that helps!
@Delmo67 It's different totally from Daito-ryu and looks more like aikido. It could't be base of Daito-ryu 'cause it don't use principles of Daito-ryu
@KievAMF this is an Off shoot of Japanese Takeda Ryu, and is not recognized as true Takeda Ryu, but what I posted before is not false. Sokaku Takeda created Daito-Ryu from his family style of Takeda Ryu, then a full sogo budo. O-Sensei learned Daito Ryu, and they took only its Aiki techniques to make Aikido. These are the differences between the styles as KievAMF asked for.
@Delmo67 I have information, that nobody knew what kind of jujutsu Takeda Sokaku had been learned. If you have kind of facts about Takeda Sokaku teachers you should contact with japanese historians
@KievAMF As far as i know Sokaku Takeda has openly professed his connection to The Clan Takeda's form of Jujutsu, as he is from that family's lineage. I think there is an article on the Daito Ryu website regarding this bit.
Very impressive techniques. Thanks.
