Silencers are illegal without the proper paperwork (a form 1 I think). It doesn't matter if you disassembled it immediately after building it. You were still in possession of an illegal silencer. It doesn't matter if it's a silencer for a firearm, bb gun or paintball gun, it's illegal.
As for silencing a paintball marker, the only thing remotely legal is to buy a heavily ported barrel for your marker and then wrap a rag around the barrel and zip tie it down.

Using steel wool as a supressing medium on a firearm would be foolish. Steel wool burns intensely when fire is applied to it, and of course there is fire in a firearm by definition. Just my .02 worth.

Actually they are legal in 15 states including texas. You undergo the same BG cjeck as you do when you get the concealment license. Plus a $2000 transfer fee from you to the atf approved class 3 dealer and a wait time of about 2 months.

Porting the barrel the whole way kills velocity. Longer barrels=more velocity to a certain point (around 10" or so) Basically, all of the gases that would propel the paintball go into the suppressor. I made a baffle silencer out of pvc (like the real ones) for my paintball gun, no difference. I have a 16" barrel, ported just short of 1/2 way down. This slowly releases the gases, killing noise. You could wrap the ports in a silencer, but shouldn't port it all the way down. good concept though
I determined the same thing, porting only the last 1/2 or 1/4 of the barrel depending upon length makes the gun preform better and actually baffle the sound more

i am pretty sure but not completely sure that they are illegal on paintball guns. many of the places to play paintball in iowa tell you that you cannot have a scilenced weapon. so they are telling you you can not use it at their field so maybe they are legal for backyard play.

Porting the barrel the whole way kills velocity. Longer barrels=more velocity to a certain point (around 10" or so) Basically, all of the gases that would propel the paintball go into the suppressor. I made a baffle silencer out of pvc (like the real ones) for my paintball gun, no difference. I have a 16" barrel, ported just short of 1/2 way down. This slowly releases the gases, killing noise. You could wrap the ports in a silencer, but shouldn't port it all the way down. good concept though

I determined the same thing, porting only the last 1/2 or 1/4 of the barrel depending upon length makes the gun preform better and actually baffle the sound more

dude you're an ass. your design would work better if you replaced the steel wool with water. that would cool the expanding gasses and reduce the noise a bit but you still have the sonic boom of the projectile as it exits the barrel. look up "suppressors" on Wikipedia it should show you how they really work .

Well...you can get a permit. But your record has to be pretty much spotless. And it helps to have been in the military.
My moms friends husband has 3 different silencers. Once for his Mac-11, one for his AR-15, and one for his P-90. Also, he has 2 Ruger with built in silncers.
Its easy to get silencers...if you've been a good boy lol

Yes it does, actually.
Because the ATF determined that silencers for airguns and paintball guns ARE legal, provided they can not be easily detached for usage on a real firearm.
Therefore welding it to the barrel is a good way of making it "not easily detached".
