Its sad, but no one has been able to touch Alice in almost 40 years. This is sheer bloody genius. Alice is still more influencial and terrifying than anyone who has come along since.
Absolute, undeniable, brilliance. THIS is what is missing from live shows; Imagination, originality, and genius.
This just might be Alice Coopers most chilling song . Mental illness is a scary disease and nothing is black and white and I think he covers that aspect well in this song . Great song ......Thanks for posting .
I remember when i was really little and me and my dad always used to listen to Alice Cooper in the car. I don't think kids my age listen to him that much. He inspires me too much!
i bet he would sing that song better today. sounds like he had a full background vocal section with him on this tour to make up for the fact that the vocals weren't solid. still though, good performance.
One of the greats. Met him in '75 and again in '77. He was dressed as a cop the first time (it was backstage at the Rock Awards) - I had just been to the old set of the show Adam-12, so I gave him the souvenir Adam-12 tie tac I'd received from the studio. He immediately put it on. I was so thrilled! Hey, gimme a break! I was only 14! THANKS for sharing this classic Coop!
This is the "From The Inside" tour. He had just got out of rehab for his drinking. He's actually sober in this performance. His drinking didn't catch up again until the early 80's and then he stopped again in 85. This is 1979, a year after he got out of rehab.
After having spent 5 months in a psyche ward, I can tell you, he is quite authentic, and I will copy his style when I sing this in karaoke. It will of course be a stretch physically, since depressed people barely move and this calls for constant motion.
If you are ever in a situation where the Cops try to drag you to a mental institute, put your hands around their neck and strtangle them. Claim you were protecting yourself.
yea, he is verrrry skinny here, but I dont think he was lip syncing the song "serious" in that other video. and yea I've seen people saying he was ill so maybe thats it.
Kinda. He sang fine on the album and this is after he got out of rehab. However, I think maybe his body went into shock from quitting the alcohol so suddenly.
We go thru hell quitting drinking. Many of us hallucinate. A friend of mine was detoxing and thought Alice was chasing her. Years later, I told it probably really did happen and he was just trying to get you to the hospital before you coded. She's still sober too today, TG!
any Cooper video is to be treasured, even a recording with a weak vocal like this one. If you want to see (and hear) a better rendition of this classic, just watch his 'Trashes the World' dvd, it's awesome.
Morons. This is what is called a performance. This aint a Kelly Clarkson studio track. You're not going to get the album version when you see him live, you're going to get something totally wicked and weird and we like it that way.
He looks like a Holocaust victim because he just got out of rehab (in a actual Mental Asylum). This whole tour was based on his experiences in the madhouse, that's why he seems a lot more twitchy/spastic crazy than his usual just plain evil.
the first time i saw the coop was in '96, and it's very strange because sometimes this sounds like him and sometimes it doesn't. But then again like I said I never heard him live before '96. It probably is him though, and this is by the far the creepiest I've ever seen Alice.
it doesnt sound like alice ive been 2 one of his concerts it was awsome but then again when i saw him was in 2006 so his voice could have been diffrent
Sorry guys...at the time I had been watching a lot of cover bands. Hadn't really looked into this time period of Alice and commented before really thinking about it. Again, my apologies.

Dwight Frye- an amazing actor who died before his time, famous for playing the lunatics in horror movies.
A simply awesome song

Yup, that's a nice tribute to the typical character Dwight played. He played Renfield in a Dracula movie, and he was incredible !!
The way the song is played here fits the character perfectly !!

His voice is weird here. But he can sing if he just wants to. His singing in most of the AC songs is full of attitude.

i loved the way his voice sounded on the song "serious" live. but why does he sing it all choppy and outta breath when it couldve been alot better.
alicecoop9009 4 years ago
"Serious" if you mean the TV special video for some reason I think that's either "lip synced" or he just put on a good performance for the cameras.
"but why does he sing it all choppy and outta breath"
It's been speculated he is ill, ironically from going sober. He is EXTREMELY skinny here.
Mytownhomeboy123 4 years ago
yea, he is verrrry skinny here, but I dont think he was lip syncing the song "serious" in that other video. and yea I've seen people saying he was ill so maybe thats it.
alicecoop9009 4 years ago
This was due to his alcohol abuse.
