  • My great uncle died because he shot a .22 short at a squirrel and hit a large branch and ricochet back at him and hit his heart and he died sadly... So don't underestimate the power of a .22

  • @Gunsmith420 wow how unlucky

  • Awsome gun. Works with any ammo brand I have tried. My dad had one while I was growing up and it was a tack driver. I was lucky enough to find one for under $200 a a show and it too is super accurate. I rarely go shooting and don't bring it along.

  • This would be a great practice gun for young kids to shot

  • @articgummibear a .22 will kill a person it is the caliber that has killed the most peole

  • i have this gun and i love it

  • when my great grandpa died he left me his 552 and it is freakin awesome

  • I have had my 552 for about a year now. It was a handed down rifle from my grandfather. I love this rifle, but it will not fire 22lr of any velocity without stove piping on the second or third shot. But I can shoot 22 shorts through it all day long as fast as i can pull the trigger. the barrel does say 22 S, L , LR next to the receiver. Ive taken it apart several times and cleaned it to no avail. Does anyone have any information that would help???

  • @shockurmom maybe its a faulty part talk to a gunsmith

  • I have one and love it

  • I have this gun I like it

  • i own a 552 speedmaster i love wouldnt trade it for anything

  • Wow 22s are that loud?

  • It is not the only American made semi auto that handles LR L and S. Look up the Remington 550-1

  • @slowride55 they are pretty much the same gun.

  • @hwg1993 Kinda, sorta, not really. The 550 has a "floating chamber" design. They both function the same way but they are different.

  • that looks like my grandpa's JC Higgins model 29 from Sears back in 1951!!!

  • Any idea how much one costs today? I had one years ago and it was stolen. One of the best gins I ever had and would love to get another one. And do they even still make them today?

  • @63gstone they still make em but the msrp for $593. i have one that my dad gave me a year or 2 ago.

  • whats with the butstock? there isnt even recoil

  • Fuck yeah I'm with funnyduck4 I paid way more than I shouldhave like a dumbfuck cleaned the little fucker and all it does is jam. Had one shell blow out the casing in the gun... prolly good

  • at 12 seconds in if you just listen it sounds like a pretty sweet beat. sounds like a song for a second or two

  • ba-ding!

  • I have a Winchester 190 that is tube fed for LR Long and Shorts, the Winchester 190 and 290 were made from around 1960-1980. Its an amazing gun and you can get them cheap very cheap, winchester made the 1 an 290 for different companies such as sears&roebuck and its the same rifle with sears on it. the 290 is the more luxury model with a walnut stock and the 190 is birch wood. in reviews guys have gottem 190's for under a hundred dollars and mine was given to me, overall great reliable n cheap!

  • @MRTCrawford I have one of each, a 190 and290. They are great little guns although have an insanely stiff trigger pull. Yep, they are cheap. I paid $100 for one and $80 for the other.

  • You are incorrect about the Rem M552 being the only semi-auto rifle that can shoot 22lr, 22l, & 22 shorts. My Rem M550a can do that too. :) The Rem M550 & M552 are very different firearms designs, but they both have the patented "Carbine Williams" floating chamber.

  • I bought one couple years back with a scope for 130. Saw one today at the Bloomington gun show beat to crap for 150. Great lil gun shoots straight every time.Good show today also except for the 2 guys being accidently shot??? We talk about gun safety and guys get wounded in what should be the safest place around. Nevermind.............great lil gun.

  • Do a 800 yards target video with the .22!!

  • I own one of those, I clean it and take care of it and all it does is jam. Pisses me off

  • @funnyduck4 take it to a gunsmith and have it professionally cleaned and if you shoot hollow points try to get lead plated regular ammo it'll be a lil more cleaning but sometimes a .22 dont like hollowpoints.

  • wow very nice little gun about how much do they go for?

  • Its a very nice rifle

  • how much was that and where did you get it? and do they still make them?

  • when it is shot, do the bolt on the left hand side charging handle move as the cartridges are being cycled?

  • My Dad got a Rem. 552 as a Christmas present back in 77. That baby is still a real tack driver all these years later! That Remington is one of the finest .22's ever made.

  • I own one of these rifles

  • I actually have have a semi-auto 1968 Winchester model 3t. Its american made and also handles .22LR, .22s, and .22L. Its a very nice shooting rifle but they probably took the idea from the model you have. nice vid though

  • dang thats alot of kick i couldnt handel that lol nice gun by the way

  • dang thats alot of kick i couldnt handel that lol

  • Can someone please reply on how much my 22 model 552 remington is worth? My grandpa gave it to me awhile ago. It has a 68 on the left side of the barrel. I've been doing some research but cant seem to find any answers

  • i love these .22s, ive barely had any jams, the only complaint i have is the location of the action... its ripped chunks of my thumb off many times (but thats just my fault)

  • not manly enough heh

  • These are great rifles. I was stupid and sold mine when I was a kid in college. My boss at the time gave me one (for nothing) and I passed that one on to my sister. Twenty years later, she's still got it. Very accurate and reliable.

  • This is the only reliable semi auto .22 rifle Remington has ever made. The Remington Viper was a joke and the 597 has parts that are made in china. What the hell remington?

  • @workensmart I have two of the late 60s model Nylon stocked Mohawks they are both very reliable. The only complaint being the 10 round detachable magazine is not available in a larger version. Both are over 40 years old and function just as well as they did when my father and I bought them.

  • Hey I have this rifle and I was wondering what the hole in front of the trigger is...it looks like a place for banana clips but i don't know. Thanks

  • @hockeyfanatic44

Its so you can get in there and clean out the trigger housing...

  • I have this rifle as well. It originally belonged to my father, after he passed away it went to my older brother, when he passed away last year it came into my possession. Beautiful family heirloom that I will treasure always.

  • I used to have one of these when I was a kid. Needed cash, so I sold it. So dumb. Anyway, I found one for my sister and she's still got it after 20 years. Wonderful rifle. Very accurate/reliable.

  • i have this rifle its a nice accurate rifle .

use good ammo no problems ..

  • I have one and love it. too

its a nice gun solid. I have a marlin 39a too

its a 1956. i love them both . both accurate as hell.

  • Are you Vincent Donofrio?

  • i grew up hunting with this gun. jams all the time even with cci mini mags and stingers. all my friends used 10/22.

  • the remington 550-1 was the first to fire all three, and can be mixed in the tube. started production in 1941 and was replaced by the 552

  • i own a 552 speedmaster....I LOVE IT..sweetest shooting .22 i've held

  • they are price from remington at over 500. now and when mine was new 179. 10 years aggo lol.

  • It looks like a pellet gun

  • i shot this i wasnt too impressed by the accuracy of the piece especially being made by remington and all

  • 243 im 10 and thats what i use

  • i have a marlin .22 that shoots short, long, and long riffle

  • im 13,what gun would you guys recomend for when i go hunting?

  • for what exactly?

  • remington

    22. rifle

    semi-auto

  • @TheGarrett166 30-06 rifle

  • you would reccomend a 30-06 to a kid?

  • hell ya i would. I used a 30-06 when i was 14 why not?

  • um depends when i was your age i used a 20 gauge for small game and i still use 20 guage slugs for deer

  • Does anyone have an online manual for this gun?

  • is this a good home defense weapon?

  • hellz no

get a 20 single shot shotgun

  • @GeneralVan Yes, against squirrels

  • @GeneralVan i would say no, look at maybe a 20 or 12 gauge short barreled shotgun for home defense

  • @GeneralVan id buy somthing bigger than a 22 for home defence like a 12 gauge shotgun or a handgun such as a 9mm or 45 a 22 aint gonna put no one down and out jus piss em off lol

  • @GeneralVan very good for home defense..if the intruder is a squirrel. lol

  • @arcticgummibear this will kill a person easy and that's one of the reasons .22 are the most dangerous firearm in my opinion because it so small and people underestimate it

  • @arcticgummibear If you have hollow points, you can easily maim someone with a .22 LR

  • @arcticgummibear I don't think anyone would want to keep trying to get into someones house if the have been shot 18 times by a .22. I have a Speedmaster and love it. The date code for mine is B.G. I looked it up and it was either 38 or 68. I think that it is a 68 cause the stamps are to deep and surely would have worn down more than what they are. Thanks

  • @GeneralVan

Better than nothing, but far from ideal.

  • do u have a owners manual that i could download because i just bought that same gun

  • the 550-1 also can shoot shorts ,long and lr mixed in the same tube. mine is quite reliable

  • I've got a scoped BDL version of the 552 and love it. With 15 rounds available as quickly as you can pull the trigger, it's a pretty wicked little machine, particularly when loaded up with Stingers or Velocitors. It's more accurate than I expected for an autoloader too. I do kind of miss the speed and handiness of the iron sights though.

Your's sure has a pretty stock for a non-Deluxe version. Nice.

  • i got this gun for 100 bucks and i love it

  • toz99 better, no jams

  • im thinkin about getting this for target and some small game. im looking for it at meltzers and sons in Garfield, nj so if anyone knows about it can u help me

  • Short, sweet, and to the point. Great review! 5/5. I want that gun bad. It seems kind of loud for a 22. My Mossberg 702 Plinkster sounds like a cap gun half the time!

  • i have that 22

  • Great Rifle. U know what size rail it has?

  • How many rounds capacity?

  • Can you read?

    Watch the video again

  • I have the forerunner of this gun, the 550-1.Both are great little semi-autos.

  • i have the same gun its been in my family 4 generatoins... there great

  • I have the same gun and love it! The only issue is that there is no way to lock the bolt back. Hear that Remington???

  • I had a Speedmaster with the BDL finish. It was a beautiful looking gun. It had a 3x9 scope and I could get dime-sized groups at 50yds. I shot only CCI minimags and as a lefty, the hood over the ejector kept most of the shells from hitting me in the face. I got rid of the gun because the spent casings would stove-pipe way too often for my taste. Over all it was a really nice firearm to have in a collection.

  • I'm sorry to see that you have got rid of a classic, highly collectible rifle. CCI Minimags are not powerful enough to cycle a semi-auto rifle. Only .22 LR High Velocity can, with a 40 grain solid round nose. Also, if you are a precision target shooter, avoid bulk pack of .22 LR HV 36 grain hollow-points.

  • I think the problem is more likely that the gun needed cleaning. I have shot many CCI rounds through mine with no major problems. Also, this gun is designed to shoot short rounds as well as long and long rifle. It cycles shorts just fine so I don't think any long rifle should be an issue.

  • mine will not eject a short, I can only shoot LR

But its 20 years old and this particular rifle is a bit hard to clean....

  • what is the difference between .22 long and

    .22 long rifle?

  • .22 long is shorter overall, has a 29 grain lead bullet & lower muzzle velocity, maybe 800 feet per second.

.22 long rifle (LR) is slightly longer, has a 40 grain lead bullet and higher muzzle velocity, around 1100 feet per second.

Both brass cases are the same length.

  • Basically in looks, the length of the bullet (projectile) that sticks out from the neck of the casing. LR is a longer projectile.

  • i have one of these but it jams all the time after about 30 rounds the bolt won't open and if you pull the trigger nothing happens, has this happened to anyone else

  • It depends on what ammo you've been using. For semi-auto, avoid Winchester .22 LR Wildcat. The powder residue is shaped like a pyramid and jams the mechanism. Remington has a lot of sooty residue. It is best to remove all the wood & clean out with a can of WD-40 with a narrow tube, spray mechanism & let it drain, muzzle up.

  • i was using remington it was a value pack or something with about 550 rounds but maybe i should try some expensive ammo, what would you recommend

  • For semi-auto, I recommend Winchester Xstra. Last time I checked $3 for 50. I like it because this ammo has "left-over" power. Although it does not say High Velocity, it can cycle your semi-auto. You can't go wrong with cleaning out your firearm now that you are changing to another brand of ammo. Winchester has a kick but very accurate. Another brand is CCI, much more expensive. In Canada, $8 for 100.

  • i just bought a Remington model 597 and 100 rounds of CCI mini mags so i'm going to try that round in both

  • if you are a precision shooter try RWS sport if you can buy i over there i use it the loads are regular and you get what you pay for

  • I had that happen, I was using Remington golden bonus. I got them because they were the cheapest ammo i could buy and you get what you pay for.

  • One of my favorites, next to my rem Mod 512, no longer made though my grandpa bought it for 15 dollars, thanks!

  • The J.C. Higgins Model 31 (High Standard) also shoots .22 short, long, and long rifle FYI. :) Lovely rifle; I have one.

  • this is my favorite .22 rifle! :)

  • i just got a savage 64 and hate it (too long for details) and was looking at other 22s and found this one and realy like it...how much did you pay for it?

  • This was a gift, but they run about 2-3 hundred I think.

  • about 600

  • @mag30th new straight from remington is about $540.

  • @mag30th most cost around 450 now :(

  • what .22 were you shooting in the vid?

its not the only american made gun that shoots 3 .22's. theres a pump action model of that gun! :)

  • Per the Remingtons web site it was the only .22 "semi-auto" that fired all three at the time it was first produced in 1957.

Im sure that there were other bolt actions, pumps, and single loader rifles that may have done the same, but this was the first semi-auto.

  • oh, ok

  • yes they do make both pump572 and semi auto552. different model numbers. remington also use to make in larger centerfire calibers, up to 308. im not sure if they still do. i believe the one in the video is from 1968

  • Yeah, there are a few guns out there that fire .22 short, long and long rifle.

that gun your talking about was the one that i meant.
