I love the simple, beautiful, trickiness of this play. I would like to see a triple option where the quarter back can pitch it to a running back, who can THEN pitch it to a second back who's running beside HIM. Anybody know if that's been done?
@JohnPritzlaff I believe it has been done or at the very least been seriously considered by some coaches. The problem is that the field is only so wide. This means that the defense could string the play out easily and also two pitches on one play greatly increases the chance for a fumble.
@Llynus They can but the formation presents a problem. In American football you start from a static formation. A coach would have to figure out a way to get his players in the right position to lateral the ball multiple times without the formation being so unique that it was a dead give away to the defense what was going to happen before the play even began.
Although I now live in Florida, I am originally from that area, and youth football in the Tri-State area of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia, is known as midget league...which consists of A-Team (6th grade), B-team(5th grade), C-Team(4th grade), D-team(3rd grade), E-team(2nd grade). Judging by the looks of these guys, I would guess they are A-team, which is the Pop Warner equivalent of Pee Wee. Unless things have changed, most players will play Jr High or Middle school, after that...
Its Called a Shovel Option Actually not the triple option. A triple option consists of a read hand-off then either a speed option to the opposite side with the shovel or just a speed option in which the QB can keep the ball or option it
thumbs up if you thought you were gonna see actual midgets

@YellowBlackbird12 It's doable, a good rugby team can string together dozens of option laterals.

That was in 2004 or 2005. But Western (the red and white team) still won

I love that shotgun option, but let's face it, the opponent on this video had no defense whatsoever. QB sneaks would have beaten those clowns.
