Excellent question. The show is easily an unintentional period piece, and I think part of the appeal for people now watching it is that it's so 80's. On the other hand, to be viable in the market, it may be be to update the series. I think, though, if they keep they character driven plots, the emotion, the passion in the music, and all the other timeless elements of Jem, an update may be possible.

The 80's was an innocent time compared to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, and maybe the 70's (since AIDS ended the days of complete and utter sexual recklessness), but that's about it.

I found this to be a very confused ending and rushed. Why do we end on Bon Nee, a non-central character? There were so many plots that could have been explored, like Jem/Jerrica's identity to Rio, the end of Starlight Music, a revelation about Synergy. None of these things are every answered.

@Firewizard23 It's because the show was cancell, hasbro end up their line of Jem dolls, so they didn´t need to pay the production of the cartoon as a publicity for the dolls since they were not making them anymore, but the writers heard the news and change the already scripted episode and try to give a end story, they could do much since the animation was done in Japan by studio Toei Doga (Toe Animation nowdays) and part of the scrip was already send. That's way they are prototypes online of JEM

Everyone that ever bought a Jem toy during the show's run, was essentially supporting the show's existence. If you think about it, that's a pretty big thank-you to the loyal fans of the show: knowing that you're spending your (parent's) hard-earned money on toys that basically foot the bill to make the show Truly Outrageous! It's just too bad that other cartoons from this Era and past couldn't dedicate the same production resources into creating a quality show that makes people love the product
