I used to think that this video distracted from the purpose of the song. Then I paid more attention to the actress. Notice the sexuality in all of her actions, from chopping up his body, to burying his limbs. And then, it all just clicks. This video wouldn't have worked at all if she hadn't done such a good job selling it.

What a terrible video. So not only was the song's meaning ruined for me, but the song in its entirety too. Now whenever I listen to this song, I'm going to be reminded of this crap. If you're going for the shock factor, you blew it. An attractive girl butchering a body is neither artsy or interesting. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste, but when You Forgot it in People came out in '02, I think they really came into their own. The whole album has a sheen of professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Sweetest Kill", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, it's also a personal statement about the band itself! HEY PAUL!!!

i dont think we are supposed to focus on the vividness of the murder or the act so much as the person and the state of misguided, insane worldly confusion that she embodies and represents. the gruesomeness of the video acts as a startlingly stark image in contrast to the laid back music. i mean, even though the girl is a murdering wack job, she is still incredibly likable and vulnerable. i think, and this is only my opinion, that this video is beautiful.
