I love watching this short clip! I am rebuilding a 1972 Bonnie' 650 at the moment that I found in a garage on the Isle of Man - taken apart to repaint the frame and never put back together. I've never ridden a bonnie' before, but haviong discovered this - I cannot wait! The sound under acceleration is classic.
I have a Honda VFR800FIY, which sounds lovely, for a modern motorcycle, but one of the most delightful sounds in the world, is an old 650 Triumph under acceleration or cruising along. Best music by far..! And like the other bloke said, nice quick gear changing too, and the kick starting was very impressive. Barely swung the leg and she started..! Seeing that video makes you wonder... does one need more..? An old Trumpet is definitely for the enthusiastic, but perhaps a Hinkley one for everyday.?
This would have to be a 66 and you just made me sad and happy at the same time, sad that I did not keep a couple of these that I had In my youth and happy that they are still being ridden and enjoyed.
If they would make that exact bike again they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand. I don't care how many bikes are faster, handle better or brake faster the early Triumph's and BSA's have them all beat on class.
Brilliant sound! Love your bike. My BSA used to sound like that until some thieving mongrel took it. Who'd spend a fortune on a new bike when the old ones are as good as this? Don't they go well when they are carefully assembled and lovingly maintained!
This would be the best dry frame Bonneville video I've seen. Great sound quality and having owned 2 650 Bonnevilles and several other trumpies., this is about as good as it gets without actually riding one. Thanks, Sean.
@bisgaardmotors sounds great got the lovly throaty sound of a typical triumph and well maintained !!!! no tappet noise remeber triumphs dont leak oil they mark there teritory lol i have a metisse with a 1955 T100 MOTOR nice bikes ! triumphs
This makes me miss my 1969 so badly I may go crazeeee! Bless you for posting this nectar for us old Beatniks.....one seldom hears the most gorgeous exhaust note on the planet anymore! Loved hearing you go through the gears... four-speed on yours, right? Also, your color scheme is a lot different than USA export. Johnny Driver taught me how to tune a BONNIE so that it would take gas like it had an accelerator pump... 40 degrees full advance and proper valve lash. You won't be sorry....
@sitarnut crazy of us to always get rid of the things we love the most isnt it lol. i hear so many people talk about their old cars and bikes and always regret getting rid of them. oh well, atleast you had an awsome bike, i havent had a bike yet but always wanted one. i really want a royal enfield, i know their top speed isnt that high but i really like those bikes, triumphs are awsome too. I love the english enginuity in motorcycles, they make pretty bikes!
Thanks for a nice clip. This is one of the best clips from the motorcycle that I've seen here, the sound is fantastic, the right one ... I enjoy when I watch and listen...
My kids often play as if they drive and they have super fun.
enjoyable video.....I sold my third and last 1966 T120r three years ago.....it never leaves your body but I'm getting a bit old and it's time to move on...Thanks !
the best bonneville i ever rode was an unrestored 1966 model, responsive and it just wanted to go!, not great in traffic...your bike reminds me of that ride, great bike, thanks for the "ride"...
Hi, great video, I have been trying to mount cam in same position as you show and your sound is sheilded from wind ........... do you mind to give me some tips on your set up .... you made it? or out of the box, I see there are kits you can buy on web, I had a 80's Bonnie and video sure brings back that Jagugar of motorcyles feel the Brits produced ..... I have a 47 T Speed Twin I will do some vids on ........ cheers Lucian
Thanks for the video. Stirs up some great old memories of my long gone 1967 Bonneville. I always loved the sound of their engine especially at high RPM. I live in the U.S. On one trip coming back from the mountains I had some clear open highway, which gave the opportunity to open her up. I braught it up to a cruising speed of 105 mph (172 kph). It rode smooth and strong. At that speed the engine is screaming. Loved that bike.
yes: its relatively light even by today's standards. not quite enough power to get into trouble quickly. you're garunteed to learn about motorcycle mechanics. ;)
no: they're getting expensive, and your first bike is sure to get nicks and scrapes. it has a high maintenance/riding ratio. it sucks to stall a kickstart only bike in an intersection. women are always flashing you when you're trying to ride.
did the same on my T120 ten years ago, only my video camera was like an accrington brick and I ended up filming the tank most of the way! p.s. watch my 'bike cartoon -it's only 40seconds long.
There is a reason Lucas was nicknamed "The Prince of Darkness" my T120RV had ongoing electrical problems. The vibration cracked fender supports and other parts. It was however the best handling sweetest sounding motorcycle I ever owned and I LOVED it; wish I had it back.
Such that "the times" are 1989's "sucka" laden "Walking With A Panther," 1988's "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," itself an homage to 1972 "sucka" riddled "Sanford and Son".
I like those 'Western' style bars..I would prefer the low mount mirrors myself. I have some real cool pics of my Bonnies in my video called 'Eye's of Play' here on youtube. check me out. MusicMatty67 on Youtube
