HA!! checking with the authority ... great idea...
Unfortunately I don't think they have such a thing in the US of A. Generally each state mandates its own laws on speed limits in general areas ... like 25 in a residential area etc.
Hey, I didn't want to speed, but now I've been sent the NIP. How am I to know that I am speeding if the speed limit signs are not clearly visible. The secretary of state has an obligation to maintain them. If they are not visible, who is negligent? Me or the Secretary of State (or his agent)? Why should I pick up the points and the tab?
Yep, I took photos about a week later. Submitted with the NIP response. I was "offered" a driver training course for only £95! (declined), then fixed penalty (declined), then up in court in 2 weeks. I pleaded not guilty and sent a letter explaining my circumsatances, admitting my actual speed (50mph) but contesting the validity of the speed limit (faulty signage). Instead of setting trial date they sent me a 2 line reply saying they had considered the evidence and dropped the case.
Fixed Gatso camera in a 40mph limit. One of the signs had been clipped and was rotated through 90 deg. It was dark and I was busy changing lanes so I didn't notice the Gatso. Even if I had, I thought I was at the speed limit as I hadn't seen a sign.
All of this totalitarian crap is why there could be a revolution in the UK, as EU road laws are different, and Britain will eventually have to 'fit in' to what the EU wants to do.
What's up with all these naives saying don't speed? Speed doesn't kill, reckless driving kills... can't differeniate those two at all? BTW, those tickets are goldpots for the government.
It is interesting that police can visit a speed camera and certify that they checked the signing at every visit andfail to notice an unsigned suide road for 3 years. Also they missed an un-lit terminal sign and the wrong road paint markings. Maybe they need to read the road sign manual.
Since the UK adopted speed cameras our road deaths stopped falling. we would have saved 1000 more lives a year! Hospital stats back this up. The uk slipped from safest in europe to 7th place. Last year 20% more childern died on the roads. Cameras do not work!
Yes "next time" is a good point ... but
I'm quite sure insurance is the same over there accross the pond.
The ticket will cost you big bucks on your insurance.

Was this as a result of mobile enforcement from a van or were you topped by the police?

Interesting subject presented in the most boring fashion imaginable. I suggest you stick to working behind the camera.

Fair comment! We won 16 court cases though.

@stajs02 Are you sure that 'police' visit the static cameras in question? Mostly this is done by SCP staff.
When you say there is an unsigned side road - what signs were missing exactly? Is there a system of street lighting in place?

Stop wasting police time looking on youtube and go out look at the sorry road signs and road markings and get the highways people to put them right!
Also try resurfacing the dreadfull road surfaces before spending 30k on a speed camera!
