  • Great job man!

  • that was really good, great cover, well done

  • great cover! I'm a huge Martyn fan, you've done a great job with the song..put you're own personality into it. Really love your voice. Cheers

  • This is a super cover!

  • Lovely! Great voice and guitar work!

  • @OffTheLedge It's origanally by john martyn, it's hundreds of times better than the eric clapton version.

  • I like it and I'm a Martyn fan

  • excellent u have nailed that one brother!!1

  • fabulous

  • Really nice performance. When you sing I can understand all the lyrics(and I am a Scot) John was an amazing performer, caring more for feel than perfect diction. Thanks for covering this great song.

  • NICE

  • What a terrific job you did with this cover - enjoyed it even more than the original.

  • Don't know why anyone would want you to sing it with a Scottish accent. If you're not Scot it's a horrible idea. Nothing wrong with Americanizing the song. Good work and a very nice cover.

  • Wow! I've just been taken on a journey. Thank you! Really beautiful version.

  • * * * * *

    GREAT

  • made my morning- thank you for sharing

  • perfect

  • Nice job, Bro...

  • Like your version, it swings more than the original.

  • Hey good job. Any chance of slower tutorial type video? Cheers.

  • You Do A Great Job On This Track...Awesome.

    Peace..Danny

  • This is a nice song by John Martyn, shame he passed away but I suppose it was his drinking, I also am learning this song, You seem to play in more of a funky style, sped up a bit...sounds good but John played moore of in a summer of love, mamas and papas way... keep up the good work Ried

  • brilliant

  • Beautiful tribute.

  • I am a John Martyn fan. May you never is one of my favorite song from John. All due respect, this is very good. You give a modern and fresh ambiance in this old song from the 70's. I do appreciate your personal way to sing it .You are in harmony with this song and the way you use the song is original. I like it as much as John's original way to sing it. You are not misleading us and you do sound sincere and we feel the pleasure you have to sing it and make it your own song.

  • All due respect, this is pretty terrible. You sapped the song of all its feeling and careful guitar work. Stop being in love with yourself while you sing it and fall in love with the song and it'll get better. And way to use a misleading title to get hits. Kinda sad, man.

  • You have done a great song great justice!! Thank you..... I wish you would give some of us novice guitar players a tutorial on this song... It's one of those song that I would to play. Roy from Ireland

  • sounds OK to me - well done

  • nice on the ears, no quite John Martyn but you'd need 3 pairs of hands to play the guitar as good as he did!

    thumbs up!

  • Great cover man, but learned in one week? Hmmm........

  • Bereft of the soul of the song. 'working on it this week' is an insult to the memory of the master.

  • Fuck me.. John got untalented before he died.

  • Sounds great man! What mic are you using there?...sounds great!

  • Excellent ! - I think JM would be very proud of your version ;-)

Now I shall have to practice and practice even more - a good old favourite of mine, that I only have a partial version of so far.

    Any tabs for your version?

  • I think you're amazing

  • I love your voice, well tuned!!! I think you are a perfectionist....well done! My kind of music. love all your postings, and I love also helplesly Hoping ...a lot! A song I love to sing myself!

  • Fantastic! :D

I love this song, and you make it look so easy!

  • congratulations for your interpretation

  • this is a great song which is beautifully played and sung.well done.!

  • use the right title or say cover, 16000 people dont want to see this they want to see John Martyn.

  • great version man. I like the way you just make your own and not try to copy John Martyn.

  • Just awfull :O

  • @CurmetTheFrog you serious? this is the best cover of this song I have witnessed! Well done man!

  • Brilliant effort... more like James Taylor (can't be bad!) and no one could be John Martyn who I've just found again! Sorry to hear he's no longer with us - we hear any amount of useless news in the UK and this... not a dicky bird.. typical!

  • @nlumby

The Celtic Connections crew did a nice tribute to Big John, with kathy Mattea & Danny Thompson too, and did it in his "auld hame toon"! It's here on Ytube, enjoy!

  • That exactly how the edge from U2 looks like without his hat!! i knew it! watch when he lifts his hat !!

  • thought this was gonna be bad but I was wrong you did the big yin proud.

  • thats a cover............laid it out there in his vocal style and his speed.......super job..

  • you cant have done that bad with 13000 plus listening to this.

john martyn was so confused about his identity that he spoke with a cockney accent and a glaswegian accent. When he lived in woodstock he took on an american accent too. He also "sang" a lot of his songs until he couldnt "sing" because of too much alcohol. I dont mean to put him down at all ...I love him.Go to my website and see how many covers Ive done. Well done (deltacelt1)

  • why would you post up all this about john martyn? and whats with the quotation marks on the words; sang and sing?

  • Noooooooooooo!

  • love it - great voice and a good version - well done!

  • Great, love it!

  • very good string movement but you're singing it! as a Scot John would never have sang it, take a bottle of whiskey or shout a lot and then sing it, he used his voice as another instrument! feel it!

  • good work sir

  • cud u turns this into a lesson i luv ur cover

  • Really good love it........

  • Hey Reid i really liked your version of this song and i learned my version through watching yours, great job man.

  • Really nice job, like the way you've 'americanised' it, i'm from england but like your version. check out my vids too

  • best john martyn cover on this, nice job

  • Magic! Always great to see someone play a great song and not only stay true to its beauty but to do so with flair. Bravo.

  • You rock my world, Reid. You're the real deal. Your music heals. You're a real deal healer. How do you like that?

  • Shit hot dude ...keep it up

  • Great job - brilliant voice!

  • very nice... i like the change of the style of the song :D

  • nice one .

  • I never thought I'd find a cover of this song that managed to change the style and actually pull it off. Now I have :) very nice!

  • Hay .. nice one fella :)

  • very nice job - i bet big john would approve

  • Excellent- well done- John wS GREAT- AND YOU MADE A GREAT CHOICE- WELL PLAYED AND SUNG - JIM SCOTLAND

  • this is a really good coverr!

and Can i please have the tabs?

  • well done. I think this is the best cover I have heard. Slightly different vocals and guitar, but it still works so that's a good thing

  • Superb sir!

  • You captured his spirit ,reid !

  • wow... that was lovely. Wish I could sing like this....

  • Good work. John Martyn died Yesterday. You do the song very well. It's a good song and you do it well.

  • you're a bit guapo and you voice is gorgeous - mwa

  • hi, im loving your version and learning loads from it. could you tell me if its in drop d.

    thanks

  • You have a very good voice, guitar is pretty good too. But, (I know there's always a but!), you have really Americanised the vocal, it sounds "Americana" to me. And that makes it "kinda smooth". I like the hard edge of Martyn's vocal. You know Martyn is a Scot? Well, maybe sing it with a Scottish, hard accent in mind?

I only bother to say this because with a Surname like yours.... Well? Make your clan proud laddie! I like your voice, just trying to be constructive here..

  • I disagree, but you definitely have a right to your comment. I like his song just the way he does it. Reido is an American first, a "laddie" second.

  • He does a great version of the song, no question! I was kinda pokin' fun at his "very" Scottish Surname! I mean "McClean" for godsake! But now John Martyn has passed sadly, it's a true tribute to a great songsmith! And yes, he can do the song however he wants. Just glad he does it well! Please remember Mr. John Martyn, a great writer and performer. Rest well big yin! Ye'll no be forgotten! Sail on!

  • You're cool. Rest well your big yin, too.

  • I was at a James Grant concert in Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections festival the day after Martyns death, and Grant led us in singing this song as a tribute to him. Over 500 of us belting "May You never"! Twas very touching and I hope the Big Yin could see us murdering his beautiful song, but with love! Gone, but no forgotten Big John!

  • BTW, Donegal--I gave you a positive to your comment, but somehow it didn't negate the neg that was previously given. I don't quite understand why.

  • Great one !

I just wish you'd put some more covers of Suzanne Vega; you do them quite nice and btw i cuold learn something from you :)

    Shine on!!!

  • the best version I have ever heard!!! 5 stars!!

  • Great guitar work, great singing, great recording, great performance. Five stars.

  • loved your cover man, keep it up

  • Well done.......almost perfect not the easiest song to play!

  • i love this song from this old Scotsman. Clapton covered this and did a great job. Like your version very very much as well. You have a smooth voice and your playing is excellent. Try Head and Heart by Martyn, I think you'll like it. America actually did a cover of it years ago.

  • NICE 1 M8 KEEP GOIN XX
