Wait. So it is a non copyrighted song with the exception of the 5 golden Ring part that was added later on. So, what was it like before? Did people skip 5?
I feel like I should feel silly for asking, but I really don't get it...
@DieFinsternisUndHass No no, it's not "5 golden rings" in of itself, it's the way people like to extend it like "fiiiiiive gooooo~oooolden riiiiings." That style of that line was copyrighted I guess.
@qq88qq88qq88 I think what they meant was that it melted at a lower temperature than pure ice. Everything melts, metals, plastics etc. The fact that it melt at a lower temperature was useful, it's a bit like putting salt in water, you get the same sort of effect.
@jetfire851 Do you have someone large, camp and always appears in pantomimes? The only person I can think of off the top of my head is Harvey Fierstein.
So how does the traditional version go if it isn't 'Five gold rings'?
Actually, I usually hear 'Five golden rings', which has an additional syllable and works better. Is this version more common in the US, or is it sung that way there, too?
@kittyprydekissme The traditional version has the line 'five gold rings', but it follows the same rhythm as the rest of the song, rather than holding the note longer as in the new version.
I can't help but wonder if Stephen was manic from his bipolarity this episode, because he does seem to be much more chipper than usual. But then again, he might have just been having a good day. But I notice when he is in a good mood like this, he is more cheeky than usual, for instance the whole,
'In England we live in houses.' crack. However I must say it was hilarious and perfectly executed in every way!
Does anyone wonder if he was manic during this episode, or am I just thinking to much?
Isaac Azimov wrote a short story puzzle where a scientist is found dying. He tells his colleague that he found a cure for cancer but it must be kept at 40 degrees. The colleague asks "40 degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius ?" The scientist's last words; "It doesn't matter, but you only have five minutes." ...
It's a pity he didn't have Clive there to help out.
At 5:11 Clive Anderson mentioned that his favorite temperature was -40 because it's the same in Fahrenheit as it is in Celsius. Knowing that it's the only time it doesn't make a difference, Clive would have saved the one existing sample of the serum by getting it to -40 before it broke down. Then they could take their time working out the formula.
The saying "it's too cold for snow" IS perfectly valid --- but it's specific to *England*, where the saying came into existence. In this little island, washed by warm currents, it only ever gets to its coldest when the sky is clear, and when the sky is clear you cannot get snow. So it it is really cold *in England* and someone says "I wonder if it will snow" you can correctly say "No, it's too cold for snow".
I can't stop laughing with the "In England we live in houses" :D Too funny how Stephen says that :p
