Wow..Satch's solo is such a perfect combination of melody and technique. The opening 4 bar motif is brilliant improvisation. I almost seems like he worked it out before hand...but he never does; all "off the cuff."

If you think Gilbert is in third place skill wise then you should actually try playing what he does and you will realize that it is every bit as hard and creative as the work of Satch or Petrucci.

@FamGuitarist by technical i mean someone who can play fast(may not be the fastest!) and shred beautifully, but also can play melodic in between and is able to spice up his playing every now and then with various sweet techniques like tapping,harmonics,etc. in other words someone who has sufficient mastery of everything BUT uses them the best and in the most well timed way. to me, steve vai is much more technical than petrucci however petrucci is faster no doubt.
