@1000metroid - Quite a few people have mentioned Black Ops for Wii being the game they've noticed for being problematic, so I'm presuming that Black Ops for Wii is a Dual Layered Disk (thus asking more out of your Wii's Laser than other games do). So my guess is that yes, the lens cleaner will help you out.
Did your wii mess up again and if so how long did it take? I have a few disc reading problems myself and giving my wii a nice blowjob works for maybe an hour and then it gives me that god awful error message.
I'd just like to know how well this product works on longer periods of time.
Also, SSBB is awesome. i've played it waaaaaaaaaay too much. (i think above 2000 hours :o)
@dev2000 - I did this in 2008 once for this video, and it has been fine since. Although I did do it once more after I moved in 2009, not because I had errors and needed too, I was just being a bit paranoid, due to possible dust it was exposed too during that move, so gave it a quick 5 second wipe again with this before re-hooking it up. Blowing into the console like it's an old game cartridge relies on luck really, where as the lens cleaner zero's in on the problem (providing its a dirty).

I Tried the Lens Cleaner and it Didn't work, EB Games Told me that the Wii Lens might be out of Place, And that is a Nice VLog Keep up the Good Work :)

@kermit1986 I bought Goldeneye 007 yesterday, put it in and it kept saying "Error has occured. Please eject disc..." blah blah. So I ejected the disc and took out the adapter and kept happening a few times. Now it doesn't read any discs. Did the game cause the problem, or the is it the system itself? Will the Cleaning kit fix it?
@RiceInThePants I'm not sure if Goldeneye is a dual layered disk (haven't got the game yet :P), but it's possible the cleaning kit will fix it. Plus it's a relatively cheap item, so you may as well give it a shot.

@tlkw Hmm, it's hard to say. Have you noticed your Wii taking a bit longer than normal to recognise a disk is in when you put it in? That's potentially one sign of warning you could have that your Wii laser isn't getting a good view of things. Although I suppose if it happens gradually you wouldn't be aware of your Wii taking longer to read a game disk :\

Hm, darn. I would get an error message to eject the disc and turn off the console. So I called Nintendo, they said try this first. So I got it. Used it. I put Brawl in and it WORKED. I started a match and then it froze and the same message came up. So it did something.... but not the whole problem, so I am not sure of what to do now other than send it back to Nintendo.... @1410942 I found the Big Problem that caused this and i think my wii OVERHEATED and also, when i put in discs, the wii drive doesnt spin all of my wii games. Its just SILENT?!!! it does 3 clicks and wont spin the wii. Instead of sending it to Nintendo, I will buy a new red or black wii. @1410942 I used also the lens cleaner too but it wont work because i think the lens was still clean, except it wont spin wii games (3 clicks then stops but the fan still working in the back.)
@1410942 Noticing a few people having issues with Black OPS recently. It's possibly that may be a dual layered DVD disk...in which case, along with Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Prime Trilogy, they're harder to read, and thus dirty lasers will struggle.
I'm going to try this as my Wii reads every disc I have including my incredibly scratched Resident Evil 4...but not Brawl(Which I got on launch date and is still in great condition). Must have something to do with it being a dual layer disc or some crap.

i bought my wii the first day it came out and it has this problem. luckily i was under warranty and nintendo fixed this problem. but my friend tried this method and it worked for him. so yea i recommend trying the lens cleaner than shipping it back if you still have warranty.

@smashtasm6IsBack Trust me,I have the same problem. Ever since I started playing Other M after about 2 hours,the disc,and every other disc,including GCN discs stopped working. I tried the lens cleaning thing,but it didn't fix my problem,I'll try again later,and if it doesn't work again,I'll have to send the Wii in for repair. @WiiCubeFilms - If it appears to of worked its way up to the problem you're having now, then yes, this may potentially fix things. As it could just be that your laser has built up with dust/ debris over time. Although as it's a delicate issue (a disc drive's laser), it's not quite so easy to say for certain, it's a 'try it and see' type of scenario.
@kermit1986 yeah cause it got the error has occurred message when I was play Modern Warfare. I put in 007 and it read so I tried MWR again and it worked until I tried going online again then it got that message. I tried 007 again and it read so I hit start then it also got that message. then no other games would read. when I woke up I tried wii sports and it read and I was able to play it but I the second I tried MWR it got the message (or I like to call it the Black Screen Of Death)
@Enricovir99 yeah I got the cleaning kit but it didn't help except that I did get WAW to read at one point but when I tried a different game it started to read then it made the same clicking noise it made 3 weeks ago. I kinda think that I may have burned out the lens or the drive itself from overplaying if that's even possible.

Brawl and Metroid Prime Trilogy (another dual layer disc game) were some of the first games I ever bought for my Wii, so I haven't had any problems loading them up just yet. But after watching this I'm more tempted than ever to buy the cleaner myself in case I have the same problem one day.

@zelink304 You don't have to clean constantly. Just once, and then maybe in a couple of years if your laser starts to have issues again with dual layer discs.
@joinCENAtion if it's a brand new Wii you have nothing to worry about. This isn't that common of a problem really (in terms of the percentage of Wii owners who have had it), but IF your Wii ever starts struggling to read disks somewhere down the line, then keep this video in mind.
The only reason you will ever need to use it more than once is if you perhaps get your lens dirty again (either through having your Wii in an area that see's a lot of smoke, or perhaps if you do not dust your wii off enough and dust gets taken in a lot when you put discs in).
Ok someone plz answer me this: I got the Wii lense cleaning kit in hopes of fixing my Brawl disc error (yes im another brawl error person), I used it like the istructions said, i put brawl in and it starts to work, it comes up on the channel and it lets me start it. it goes through the loading then right before it reaches the intro screen, the wii goes silent and i get the dreaded "Disc cannot be read"message. what's the deal? someone plz respond
Thanks for the vid man. I've never come across the infamous disc error with my Brawl, but I'm currently having some with ALL of my games. Hopefully it's nothing huge and this'll do the fix, like it did for you.
There aren't any data-bearing layer on the disc, so it can't be region locked - there is absolutely nothing for the drive to read off the disk - it will just try to spin the disk and focus on the surface, which will fail, but the pad will wipe the laser lens over...
@godzillachallenger1 - You may be better asking someone in the USA to do this dude. Otherwise it'd get shipped to me in the UK, then I'd have to send it to the USA.

Ok, my problem is that my wii wont read gamecube games and when I put the disc in it just says unable to read disc and refer to operations manual I have tried everything except this. The game is used and has a few scratches but I have seen games in far worse condition work. So do you think this lens cleaner will work? Why buy one when you can make your own? Just get a disc YOU DON'T USE! Get a very thin towel and place it on the bottom of the disc. Make sure the middle part of the cloth is cut, just like the shape of a wii game disc. Damp the cloth a little and insert the disc into the wii. If the disc does not fit into the wii disc slot then the cloth is too thick. Let the disc spin and when its done, take it out.
Do the process over again with a dry towel to dry the lenses. Try your brawl now.
It's not a CD...it's a plastic peripheral. So it doesn't matter what region you buy the lens cleaner from, it WILL work on any wii.
As for 03Kolby, I think the PS3 has a tray doesn't it? ...this works on Wii because it doesn't insert into a disc drive, its merely a clever little insert.

Mine says "Unable To Read Disc" as well and Nintendo recommends that I pay them $75 for a repair.... Nice customer service, y'bastards. I play it less than all my other consoles and it decides to be the one to break down. . . Quite counter-intuitive. The only game that would be played was Wii Sports, but who wants to play that? I didn't bother with nintendo's support, my warranty if out of date....
and 4.3U can't be hacked without the stuff I have, it's just either fix it reading my disc or blah blah....

Hm, darn. I would get an error message to eject the disc and turn off the console. So I called Nintendo, they said try this first. So I got it. Used it. I put Brawl in and it WORKED. I started a match and then it froze and the same message came up. So it did something.... but not the whole problem, so I am not sure of what to do now other than send it back to Nintendo.... "sigh" lol

Mines happened playing black ops on wii at the beginning of TDM the maps looked weird then the game jus froze I was playing on jungle my wii wouldn't read the disk of any of my games

Well, I just played black ops for the wii and i was playing online, then in the middle of nowhere, the game just stops and says error, then i turn off the wii and when i turned it on again, my game never worked anymore, i tried other games, but didnt worked, u think that the wii lense cleaner will help? reply ASAP

@1410942 I found the Big Problem that caused this and i think my wii OVERHEATED and also, when i put in discs, the wii drive doesnt spin all of my wii games. Its just SILENT?!!! it does 3 clicks and wont spin the wii. Instead of sending it to Nintendo, I will buy a new red or black wii. My warranty is out and this was my 2nd wii that broked. 1rst wii broke of Super Smash bros brawl! :( ( also out in warranty. Buying my third one!!!!!

@1410942 I used also the lens cleaner too but it wont work because i think the lens was still clean, except it wont spin wii games (3 clicks then stops but the fan still working in the back.)

@1410942 Noticing a few people having issues with Black OPS recently. It's possibly that may be a dual layered DVD disk...in which case, along with Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Prime Trilogy, they're harder to read, and thus dirty lasers will struggle.

I'm going to try this as my Wii reads every disc I have including my incredibly scratched Resident Evil 4...but not Brawl(Which I got on launch date and is still in great condition). Must have something to do with it being a dual layer disc or some crap.

hmm my wii isn't reading brawl I haven' tried others but I never play my wii so idk if I wanna buy it even if its only 10 bucks....cause seriously why do we have to pay for a problem nintendo OBVIOUSLY knows is there fault...unless we opened it how did we get the lens dirty? i bought my wii the first day it came out and it has this problem. luckily i was under warranty and nintendo fixed this problem. but my friend tried this method and it worked for him. so yea i recommend trying the lens cleaner than shipping it back if you still have warranty.

@smashtasm6IsBack Trust me,I have the same problem. Ever since I started playing Other M after about 2 hours,the disc,and every other disc,including GCN discs stopped working. I tried the lens cleaning thing,but it didn't fix my problem,I'll try again later,and if it doesn't work again,I'll have to send the Wii in for repair. Is it just Other M that doesn't work,or every disc as well?

@WiiCubeFilms - If it appears to of worked its way up to the problem you're having now, then yes, this may potentially fix things. As it could just be that your laser has built up with dust/ debris over time. Although as it's a delicate issue (a disc drive's laser), it's not quite so easy to say for certain, it's a 'try it and see' type of scenario.

@kermit1986 yeah cause it got the error has occurred message when I was play Modern Warfare. I put in 007 and it read so I tried MWR again and it worked until I tried going online again then it got that message. I tried 007 again and it read so I hit start then it also got that message. then no other games would read. when I woke up I tried wii sports and it read and I was able to play it but I the second I tried MWR it got the message (or I like to call it the Black Screen Of Death)

@Enricovir99 yeah I got the cleaning kit but it didn't help except that I did get WAW to read at one point but when I tried a different game it started to read then it made the same clicking noise it made 3 weeks ago. I kinda think that I may have burned out the lens or the drive itself from overplaying if that's even possible.

Brawl and Metroid Prime Trilogy (another dual layer disc game) were some of the first games I ever bought for my Wii, so I haven't had any problems loading them up just yet. But after watching this I'm more tempted than ever to buy the cleaner myself in case I have the same problem one day.

@joinCENAtion if it's a brand new Wii you have nothing to worry about. This isn't that common of a problem really (in terms of the percentage of Wii owners who have had it), but IF your Wii ever starts struggling to read disks somewhere down the line, then keep this video in mind.

The only reason you will ever need to use it more than once is if you perhaps get your lens dirty again (either through having your Wii in an area that see's a lot of smoke, or perhaps if you do not dust your wii off enough and dust gets taken in a lot when you put discs in).

Ok someone plz answer me this: I got the Wii lense cleaning kit in hopes of fixing my Brawl disc error (yes im another brawl error person), I used it like the istructions said, i put brawl in and it starts to work, it comes up on the channel and it lets me start it. it goes through the loading then right before it reaches the intro screen, the wii goes silent and i get the dreaded "Disc cannot be read"message. what's the deal? someone plz respond

There aren't any data-bearing layer on the disc, so it can't be region locked - there is absolutely nothing for the drive to read off the disk - it will just try to spin the disk and focus on the surface, which will fail, but the pad will wipe the laser lens over...

Ok, my problem is that my wii wont read gamecube games and when I put the disc in it just says unable to read disc and refer to operations manual I have tried everything except this. The game is used and has a few scratches but I have seen games in far worse condition work. So do you think this lens cleaner will work? I have only had my wii for about two weeks I just don't see how dust could build up in such little time. Do you think this will work I am desperate, please help me!!!!!

Why buy one when you can make your own? Just get a disc YOU DON'T USE! Get a very thin towel and place it on the bottom of the disc. Make sure the middle part of the cloth is cut, just like the shape of a wii game disc. Damp the cloth a little and insert the disc into the wii. If the disc does not fit into the wii disc slot then the cloth is too thick. Let the disc spin and when its done, take it out.
Do the process over again with a dry towel to dry the lenses. Try your brawl now.

It's not a CD...it's a plastic peripheral. So it doesn't matter what region you buy the lens cleaner from, it WILL work on any wii.
As for 03Kolby, I think the PS3 has a tray doesn't it? ...this works on Wii because it doesn't insert into a disc drive, its merely a clever little insert.

kermit1986-- A huge thanks from my family for this video. We were getting that annoying disc read error and didn't know what to do. We didn't know the cleaner existed until we found your video, then ordered the cleaner from Amazon. The Wii worked instantly after using the cleaner! You saved us so much money and time since we don't need to send it to Nintendo for repair now.

Mine says "Unable To Read Disc" as well and Nintendo recommends that I pay them $75 for a repair.... Nice customer service, y'bastards. I play it less than all my other consoles and it decides to be the one to break down. . . Quite counter-intuitive. The only game that would be played was Wii Sports, but who wants to play that? You think that I should buy this kit and fix it up?
