I've thought of an idea you could probably use, interchangeable suitcases. Basically you cut a hole in the side of the suitcase, only wide enough for one train to go through, and then have a track diverge from the main line towards the outside of this hole, then have the same done to a second suitcase, and when you fit them together, and place a track in between, the trains from both suitcases can interchangeably move from suitcase to suitcase.
The train set was around $250, had t get some extra curved track, the foam was $8, the suitcase was only $5. I'd say about $300 covers it plus another 50 for the transformer, so make it $350. Definitely more expensive than a HO or N scale, but then those would not fit in the suitcase.
I love the little train set. But I had one idea. To make it seem a little bit better I would have the train compartment. The part that holds the trains and the railcars. I would have that separate. And put them in eye glasses cases. And lable them different things for different sets. For example. A small steam loco with or without tender. And a passenger car or two. Lable that as steam express. And lable the other eyeglasses cases as what they would be appropriately called. Hope to hear a respo
Good idea, next one I do i may have to look at the feasibility of using eyeglass cases, the foam works pretty good though and it's cheap, but it was a pain to cut out the rectangles.
Thanks for the kudos. I was going to try to sell this one, but once I finished it, I didn't want to anymore. Would be nice to generate some revenue though.
Awesome!

Hi may I ask what transformer you have used. I guess it will be 120v in the USA. 9v output? What ampere do you use? Thanks

@Shadow1776
Its a RailPower 1300 that puts out 10 volts, don't know the amps.

Compared to other scales, HO, O, G,, etc, how costly on average is it to make a layout in Z scale [$ wise, not sanity wise]
travelsonic 1 year ago
@travelsonic Expensive. N scale is better as per cost

Pretty neat idea! You should sell these with company logos or sport teams or something on them...
