We use to have baddest club house on the roof before the police station got built over there, and the police never catch over there dip around the corner up to the roof wait them out or go down in side the and come out the other side good times. Great vid!
Very cool. Over the last 5 years I had the good fortune to talk to a lot of people who had history with DS, but this is the first I've heard about people chilling on the roof. If it was before the cop shop was built you have to be talking mid-80s anyway. It'd be tough now...we ventured out on the roof of Wards about 4 years ago before they tore it down, and it was so soft you felt like you were about to go right through. Needless to say we stepped back inside real quick. Thanks for the info Wax.
@dannyshortbus Yeah late 80's I use to live on the 4th(154th street)and went to school at Washington, this back when Transformers and Thundercats were unstoppable. And I can remember going there shopping with my parents as a little kid.
It really didn't look to bad in shape until they started tearing stuff apart. Great jobs making a great movie! Or video clip, or whatever the hell you want to call it. Thanks for posting
I use to play in that Mall when I was younger back in 96 with a group of friends( it was closed down of course). The police always use to chase us out. I always wondered what the mall looked like back in the day. Haven't been to that area in years, would be really interested to see how it looks now.
By the last few years there were very few stores left at Dixie Square, and of those many were local places. Of the few chain stores left, some closed and some moved to newer, safer locations. One example - courtesy of Paul's extensive Dixie Square history: JC Penney stuck around until the bitter end, but closed as soon as their their new store at Orland Square Mall in Orland Park was completed.
LOL family quest uhhh no lol great job man i wish i could go here i live in virginia thu but evry summer i go 2 my grandparents in il soo i might have them drag me out there
Great video. One of the best on this mall. Like that you have titles showing where things were. Is there anything going on there at this time? Any more news on the demolition being finished? Your video is awesome can't believe there have been no comments in 3 months.
Nothing happening at DS that I know of...haven't been out there since 8/06, but I'm told it looks the same, just falling down worse. Nothing on demo - DS will likely fall down before anyone spends the $ to finish tearing it down. And first there's $500,000+ in remaining asbestos removal that needs to be done (and that was at 2006 prices). Thanks for the comments - don't know what the deal is with this video. It's got the same tags as the first one but only 1/10 the views. Go figure.
This was shot in November 2005. Much of what you see in this video had been recently cleaned of asbestos in preparation for demolition, and was torn down in the summer of 2006. My other DS video will give you a better idea of what it looks like now, although I haven't even been out there since August '06. I'm told it looks even worse.
Wow, didn't know you did a SECOND video on Dixie Square. I kinda liked this video a bit more than the other but I don't really agree with the music you used for this. But overall, excellent nonetheless!

Awesome footage of Wards, The Auto shop and the Energy Plant! Footage of those places is really hard to come by on youtube since they were torn down.

With the music, it looks like I am watching some 70's or 80's Drive In B Flick.

It's pretty easy since a whole wall is missing as well as a whole anchor store.

Dead Malls are really fascinating and this is the most famous dead mall of them all. Awesome video. Dig the song too. I think it fits well actually.

Yeah, the music definitely isn't what you would typically choose for a video like this. Glad you enjoyed it despite that.

gotta say this, but i liked the original better with the titles. but still, nice job, man. i think it's the music that makes this one great!
1980sman 4 years ago
LOL...I hate to even admit this, but I only used the titles on the original in the hopes they would distract people from the crappy editing.
