Well not to say that the Droid X does suffer from the death grip but the holes he pointed to as "antennas" aren't even antennas they are microphone holes and there are actually 3 microphones... and quit complaining about it hurting your hand too much that is annoying.
Have you seen this phone taken apart? or have you taken it apart? where he put his index finger that's where the main antenna is @. get an schematic of the phone or i can get one for you.

I love my Droid X. But I love iPhone also. Every phone has pros and cons. It's really a personal preference. And there's 3 antennas in the X. One on top. One on the bottom and one in the back to cancel out noise. Even though I have a Droid X. I also have an iPhone. I love them both. I think they are both awesome in their own ways.
Apple is garbage, people who say they have never dropped a call are bull shitting. I have tried all the OS for phones and i like droid the best. I am actually running droid on my HD2 now. Apple was good when it had a monopoly on smart phones but i think droid is going to surpass it by leaps and bounds. Most apps i have seen on apple are free on droid, so that makes owning a droid phone much better.

No you can't death grip a droid x or an iphone for that matter because who the fuck is going to hold either phone those ways. My droid x is a peice of GARBAGE that i had to get replaced 9 times for various different horrible hardware problems and not to mention that shitty tired ass operating system called android that has so many bugs in it. The droid x turns off by it's self whenever it wants. Not only that the UI design is terrible with blurry low res icon images in parts of android.
i also have a droid x and heard about this death grip...i did it myself a different way and the signal dropped down to a 1x surprisingly fast but about two seconds sooner it went right back to full 3g so i am with u 100% percent!
I own a motorola droid and I also own an ipod touch, an ipad and right now I am typing this on my mac. the problem with apple is not their device or any employee/designer. the problem is STEVE JOBS! he is the one that comes up with the restrictions that the iphone has. such as flash player and themes. while this can be achieved by way of jailbreaking, many iphone users are simply afraid to jailbreak because of the potential risk of it bricking. so to both sides shut up and stop hating on others.

Most of the tech has been out there for the better part of a decade, Apple was just the first to take advantage of the markets ever cheaper downsized nm processors and lcd per mm pricing, these phones were possible a long time ago, basically, you would have never been able to afford small Q ratio small nm scale silicon manufacturing prices in 2000-05.

Tried it on my Moto Droid and "Death Gripping" actually took the signal from 2 bars 3G to 4 bars. Funny how Apple & Microsoft have been making all these DESPERATE manuevers against Android recently. Microsoft's "Android is not Free" (garbage) & Apple's, "Well, all smartphones are crap so don't blame us for making crap too".

droids are ok but the iphone is clearly better i have the iphone 4 and was never effected by the death grip. the only downside the iphone has is that its with at&t and they suck ass but other than that no phone can compare. i mean come on face time is fuckin amazing and i just love itunes. this phone is just like u said its too fuckin big i dont want that in my pocket all day. no thanks ill keep my iphone :)

I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs/Apple manipulated the signals on all the other phones to lose signal,.....The Iphone4 is the only phone on the market with an flawed external antenna design that comes in physical contact with the users hands, Steve Jobs shouldn't even compare the iphone4 to the others.....
This guy Is so biased and stupid, the iPhone is not a totally horribly flawed design, it's a bad design, yea, and the guy was fired for it, but there's bumpers, and most people haven't even noticed the problem, it works on the incredible (it loses one bar, very easily) but it doesn't drop calls from it, but it has nothing to do with a metal band, it's cause your covering the antenna a bit, so it loses one bar (htc incredible) droid x could probably experience this, but not as easily, either way

Steve Jobs said that Apple purposely designed a gap between the two antennas as an 'X marks the spot' to show where you can touch the phone and lose signal. Definite proof they knew the iPhone had these issues.
With the iPhone you do not even need a deathgrip, just something as small as a finger tip bridging this area will distort the signal. No other phones have this problem. Apple refuses to address that the antenna fluctuation can be caused solely by a finger tip - they focus on a grip

The reason you can't death grip it, is because Apple performs its death grips in their anechoic chambers where they can point the signal exactly where its needed to show up a phone.

Apple was just trying to prove that other smart phones have antennas and those antennas could drop bars if the user held it a certain way. Also if you have to hold the iphone 4 regularly you won't lose bars endless you literarily cause the "death grip" by holding it tightly.
I don't like Droid or Apple. I will admit my bias for Motorola, I hope they do amazing and that the Droid X succeeds the Razor. With that said: its ridiculous for a company to try and fling mud at another because they fell neck deep. Getting Droid dirty won't clean you up.
Of course it is possible to "Death Grip" any phone if you cover the antennas, but there is a difference between actively trying to block the antennas on the inside of the phone and placing the antenna around the phone where it is easier to cover.
I like my iPhone as much as the next Apple fanboy, but I don't criticize Android lovers because of their fondness of the Android platform. Nor did I criticize the Apple lovers for their fondness of the iPhone platform when I had an Android phone. they obviously payed someone to modify/edit the htc in those videos...it's so easy to do..all they have to do is use masking to make the bars a lighter color, so it appears that way....fuck steve jobs and his shitty excuses and lies.
i have an iphone 4 and a htc evo and the evo is by far the better phone. I still like the iphone but its just not as good. But I think Mac is better than pc. they need to allow more customizing on the iphone i think that will make it a lot better.
I think the video that Apple was showing actually points out a very good thing about the DROIDX. You can lose all the signal bars and still keep your call up. No drop calls...good one Apple...thanks for making me realize the DROIDX is a great mobile device....
I got my iPhone today and I can't get a call to drop no matter how I hold it. I guess that means there is no problem since I, as one owner, doesn't have the problem.
That's pathetic i know. But, at the end of the day there are far more people I know who own an iPhone 4 or older versions and are satisfied with it.... what the heck! Apple has more years ahead, why worry about this... it's not the end of the world life goes on
Before saying crap, you should do the research at 1:00 your just being hyperbolic.... again not every iPhone 4 created has a massive reception issue. For example a sudden drop of five bars to 'No Service' . He said they weren't perfect. So the real concern of Steve Jobs was the fact that the weak spot or weak spot of the antenna was visible. That's were people will say here X marks the spot. Yes their design is responsible for many drop calls.
Couple of things: 1.- On the Video that Apple was showing, DROID X was not showing the 3G or 1X icon, which means the phone was not on a real "Over the Air" system with Verizon. This phone on Apple's video was not activated. So it seems that the phone was in lab where you can control the signal attenuation coming from the call box emulators.
2.- DROID X has two antenna for Receive diversity. If one is showed, the other can tak over and keep the reception performance, so Apple is bullshiting
Not to defend apple but when I am in a call on my droid x (which apple is in the video) the 3g symbol disappears and it looks just like it does in the video. I also, however, do have huge hands and have tried for about 30 min to duplicate apples efforts in deathgripping this phone. I can not get it to drop a single bar, even in weak signal areas. Even went as far as using two hands, it doesn't happen. Apple releasing these types of videos is the reason I own a droidX now.
@depova Yes, you are right. The 3G or 1X symbol appers only when the mobile is in acquisition state or idle state (i.e. not making any type of calls). When you make a 1X Voice call, the icons disappear. Motorola came up with a new Ad to reply to Apple. The Ad reads: No Jacket Required. Go check it out....

Most of the tech has been out there for the better part of a decade, Apple was just the first to take advantage of the markets ever cheaper downsized nm processors and lcd per mm pricing, these phones were possible a long time ago, basically, you would have never been able to afford small Q ratio small nm scale silicon manufacturing prices in 2000-05.

Tried it on my Moto Droid and "Death Gripping" actually took the signal from 2 bars 3G to 4 bars. Funny how Apple & Microsoft have been making all these DESPERATE manuevers against Android recently. Microsoft's "Android is not Free" (garbage) & Apple's, "Well, all smartphones are crap so don't blame us for making crap too".

This guy Is so biased and stupid, the iPhone is not a totally horribly flawed design, it's a bad design, yea, and the guy was fired for it, but there's bumpers, and most people haven't even noticed the problem, it works on the incredible (it loses one bar, very easily) but it doesn't drop calls from it, but it has nothing to do with a metal band, it's cause your covering the antenna a bit, so it loses one bar (htc incredible) droid x could probably experience this, but not as easily, either way

Steve Jobs said that Apple purposely designed a gap between the two antennas as an 'X marks the spot' to show where you can touch the phone and lose signal. Definite proof they knew the iPhone had these issues.
With the iPhone you do not even need a deathgrip, just something as small as a finger tip bridging this area will distort the signal. No other phones have this problem. Apple refuses to address that the antenna fluctuation can be caused solely by a finger tip - they focus on a grip

Of course it is possible to "Death Grip" any phone if you cover the antennas, but there is a difference between actively trying to block the antennas on the inside of the phone and placing the antenna around the phone where it is easier to cover.

I got my iPhone today and I can't get a call to drop no matter how I hold it. I guess that means there is no problem since I, as one owner, doesn't have the problem.

That's pathetic i know. But, at the end of the day there are far more people I know who own an iPhone 4 or older versions and are satisfied with it.... what the heck! Apple has more years ahead, why worry about this... it's not the end of the world life goes on

Before saying crap, you should do the research at 1:00 your just being hyperbolic.... again not every iPhone 4 created has a massive reception issue. For example a sudden drop of five bars to 'No Service' . He said they weren't perfect. So the real concern of Steve Jobs was the fact that the weak spot or weak spot of the antenna was visible. That's were people will say here X marks the spot. Yes their design is responsible for many drop calls.

Couple of things: 1.- On the Video that Apple was showing, DROID X was not showing the 3G or 1X icon, which means the phone was not on a real "Over the Air" system with Verizon. This phone on Apple's video was not activated. So it seems that the phone was in lab where you can control the signal attenuation coming from the call box emulators.
2.- DROID X has two antenna for Receive diversity. If one is showed, the other can tak over and keep the reception performance, so Apple is bullshiting

Not to defend apple but when I am in a call on my droid x (which apple is in the video) the 3g symbol disappears and it looks just like it does in the video. I also, however, do have huge hands and have tried for about 30 min to duplicate apples efforts in deathgripping this phone. I can not get it to drop a single bar, even in weak signal areas. Even went as far as using two hands, it doesn't happen. Apple releasing these types of videos is the reason I own a droidX now.

@depova Yes, you are right. The 3G or 1X symbol appers only when the mobile is in acquisition state or idle state (i.e. not making any type of calls). When you make a 1X Voice call, the icons disappear. Motorola came up with a new Ad to reply to Apple. The Ad reads: No Jacket Required. Go check it out....
