  • i'd have expected the plane to lurch over to the right when the bird hit - shouldn't the balance have been affected? Very surprised it all seemed to behave normally.. it's what i'm always most worried of when taking off in case the plane crashed.. Makes me wonder why they even need 2 engines now

  • hotel instead of heavy?

  • yeah guys, let's just have a quick look...... yes ok, it is deffinetely broken.... ewww bird blood

  • it looked like a small bird. isn't engine designed to withstand such an impact?

  • roast bird

  • I cant believe people are asking if the bird is still ok, Do these people have no understanding of the world? where is the common sense? this is a JET ENGINE, its made from metal and spins really fast, OF COURSE THE BIRD IS DEAD.

  • The pilot handled that plane..like a BOSS!

  • May day, may day, may day, thompson 253 hotel, engine failure!

I love how calm he sounds..

  • Sweet

  • How that flies with only one engine is a testament to incredible engineering.

  • 2:20 Concorde <3

  • i think after stating their intentions 50 times ATC need to back off and let them do what they need to do in prep for landing..

  • 2:13 concorde!!!!

  • if i was the pilot, when atc said just 2 confirm it was a birdstrike, i'd be like bastard, well done to all parties though

  • Thompson are a nice wee airline, thomas cook on the other hand are shite!

  • GREAT VIDEO! LOVE THE CRASH CREW RESPONDING.

  • Jesus, I would need a stiff drink after being a passenger on that!

  • In Soviet Russia - this is a bird striking a plane

  • well done, admittingly im not looking forward to going to greece in 6 days noiw because im flying with thompsons :L

  • i see the concorde at 2:18

  • Hi, I have been on that flight and still from time to time watch this video.

And it still scare me a lot. It was a morning flight, me, my hubby and 3 years old son. Short brake on Lanzarote.

I dont know about technical issues with bird strikes, however we were scared a lot. At the beginning I was thinking that the pilot hit the ground with back of the aircraft. You spell burn and heard noise. It was a bit bumpy but not much. And we say a flames in the engine. It put me out from air for a bit

  • @czarolinda seems to be a hell of a lot of people posting here that were on that flight???

  • RIP Bird.....poor little bugger! :-(

  • Will it blend??

  • @lagunabad Don't breath this..

  • 28 People don't like grilled chicken.

  • That bird is a fan of jet engines...lol

  • Poor bird.

  • You can see the plane pulling to the right as soon as it lands. It must of been hell trying to fly it.

  • @Crafty002 thats probably due to them using one reverser (i think cant be sure) you could see the rudder moving a lot on landing

  • it's just a piston engine at really slow speed xD

    jk ;)

  • thank 4 the reply & information,

    EnnovonEssen

  • It is in that moment, where you step out of the gate and catch the smell of fresh roasted duck...

  • r u sire it was a bird? jet engines are tested very vigorously for single bird strikes, maybe not a flock of birds as in the new york crash. it may look like a Concorde accident thank goodness its all well

    bird fan

  • @adenlim99 Yes. The engines were tested on small birds and need to remain running on 80% power or, on heavier birds, they must shutdown secure. That's all.

  • @adenlim99 If your plane eats a bird it is concidered a sucess if the engine shuts down without throwing blades into the cabin.

  • @Serostern the housing on all aircraft with jet turbine engines is designed to contain shrapnel in the event of the blades fracturing and spit them out the rear of the engine with the exaust gases

  • @wulli1988 ...Yes? That is in essence what I said.

  • 28 people are jealous because if it were an airbus, it would have crashed

  • Thats gona be a Nice Holiday xD

  • I'm always impressed by the calm, reasoned, professionalism of commercial pilots. The English accents just added to that. lol

  • air craft engines can sometimes fail not because of mechanical failure but the throttle unit which controlles them. It does concern you that there is no mechanical physical link that controls modern engines. its entirely electrical. it does worry me a bit when i fly about technical problems occuring. i know they are pretty reliable these days but im always relieved when we land safely. My biggest worry about fight is dual engine trouble occuring

  • I still don't understand why they don't put a grille in front of the turbine jet...

  • @Smonjirez Ok instead of blabbing about something you didn't ask... I'll try and describe why.

They can't put a grille on the front of the engine because the engine would get less air and ice would build up on it at high altitudes possibly blocking air flow.

  • @johnnyrckt So why don't they use a heated grill? I realise the engine would get less air. But if it would result in an engine with 20% less power, it would still be worth it in my opinion.

  • This was not an engine failure, just a bird strike! Change the title.

  • @323tiim According to your comment you're suggesting the engine didn't suffer any damage. It WAS engine failure, due to a bird.

  • @Smonjirez Engine FAILURE, means the engine FAILS, the engine didnt fail, it did what it was supposed to, a bird got in the way though.

We both have right opinions, lets not argue..

  • @323tiim Exactly, and also this video (possibly) doesnt show an engine failure anyhow. The engine suffered from a compressor stall, sometimes it comes back to life.

  • @1053857 yeah!

  • wonder if the bird was killed..

  • @Stevoiboyofalkirk lol i havent heard if it was killed or not. hope not

  • "MMk, just heard a funny noise, the right engine is running very odd right now," "ok lets put the landing gear up"..."oh shit!" what do I know, but it looked odd the way it happened

  • 2:12 Concord in the background :DD

  • Flight dinner lol!

  • =)

  • If you listen closely, you can hear the engine make a noise.

  • Cutos to him. Nice landing for 1 engine

  • @MSSpenceProductions Isn't it kudos?

  • engine: OMNOMNOM >=)

  • Hell, they should have restarted the thing and continued on! No sense of adventure these days...

  • @smacman68 it was overthrusting, if they handn't shut it down it would have ripped it's self apart, then you have a very expencive pice of kit to replace =o

  • @lyokoBSTN Yeah, I am sure. I was just being sarcastic, BTW. They would have been fools to try

  • @smacman68 fair enugh, hard to tell over youtube though lol

and yea fools to try indeed, once on the ground sure, but still in the air nope

  • Poor dicky bird :(

  • many people forget that engine failures are not always to do with a problem with the actual engine but some times the thrust lever control system can fail to respond. so no matter how reliable and engine is the throttle system can still fail

  • hope the bird was ok..

  • @kev8338 In everyone´s dream, maybe - but not in real!

  • @kev8338 fuck u religious protesting cunt.

  • @TheKaza123 haha sorry that you didn't sense the total sarcasism in my statement..

  • if patrick star from spongebob was flying this plane i bet he would say "OH MY GOD WERE ALL GUNNA DIE *spinning the plane all around*"

  • Congrats to all - very professionally done ... from start to end.

  • I like the Concorde at 2.22 :)

  • Birds... America's only true terrorist.

  • @azsutter This obviously is not in America. Listen to their accents and plus those are European rescue vehicles.

  • @WhiteTiger91 I wasn't talking about this video stupid... I'm talking about my own country without regard to the video.

  • funny how one bird can cause such a big engine to fail completely...

  • @Edwiness they should use turbo charged AUDI engines on this. durable and cant be stopped by an bird (exept you rip of the airfilter and put that birdie in :D)

  • @Edwiness Its analogous to putting a grain of sand between two critical gears meant to contact with the tightest of tolerances ;)

  • @R5H4D0W i wish i could say I did, but i didn't understand a word of what you just posted.

  • @Edwiness lol, sorry...try a monkey wrench in a gearbox.

  • @R5H4D0W

Not quite. Bird hits compressor intake fan blade which is rotating at high speed, 1 or more fan blades break off and are ingested by the remaining compressor fan stages, more and more blades being broken off by hard debris from the preceding stages, this causes catastrophic failure and the engine flames out. All of this happens in a few seconds or less. The outer shell of the engine and also the wing nacelle are designed to contain debris thrown out by centrifugal force.

  • Lol He probably felt one fairly hard yaw to the right lol :3 Thats what happens when you get a bird obliterated into an engine.

  • if you are sitting right seat ,your shitting in your pants ,believe me !!!!!!

  • did he say Puddy at 1:48??? xD

  • ha ha sounds like a steam train

  • When speaking to Manchester, I love how the pilot still manages to say "good morning"! Very... polite.

  • Why didn't they power down and pull it with the tug once they were safely stopped? Time constraints w/ the runway?

  • air traffic controll i've lost an engine, and i also shit myself over

  • i love how all pilots have such calm voices, they all sound the same, fucking professionals, if i looked out of the window i would've said OH GOD THE ENGINE'S ON FIRE!! OMG!, which would've started a chain reaction and there would be anarchy, and orgies would be breaking out everywhere..

  • @devv1989 Not really. Dude these pilots have been doing this for well over 1500 to 2000 hours. Which if you put 2000 hours into years, thats about 15 to 20 years of flight training. Oh and 2000 is well over 560,000 US dollars. So yeah, I'm taking my pilots course which is only in the beginning, but the instructor tells you to just be calm and get things done before anything screws up. Thats why alot of airline companies would want someone with over 2500 hours :3 Ok done ranting :P

  • Frightening..

  • Completely professional aircraft, control, and ground crews. They should all be proud. This is how it should happen when it goes down.

  • It's hard to even think of this as an Emergency with that accent!

  • It is fantastic to see people with their shit together. Everyone managed things by the book and kept their cool. A tip of the hat to all involved!

It was also cool to watch the rudder counteract the yaw from the #1 engine in reverse thrust. Excellent camera work!

  • @slorznovitch i too saw some rudder movements on landing, but would they use the reverse thrust on one engine? I think the yaw affect would be too hard to contain :/ ?

  • Oh yeah...i would be shittin myself if I saw that out my window, lol

  • wad the hell are they toking? so damn fast!

  • I bet there were no dry underwears on that flight

  • @vindaloo9 LOLOL!!

  • KFC

  • 0:09

Bird enters engine, No.2 engine fire alarm rings in the cockpit, aircraft already past V1, has to takeoff

"Captain, engine 2 is on fire!"

    "Mayday Mayday Mayday"

    0:29

Fire Handle pulled, engine shuts down.

  • this video is as viral as the so called circus abuse videos it's all over the place.

  • and the guys kept their cool the whole time .... unreal.

  • @g0sth4ck3d panicing usuall causes more errors that cannot be recovered from. first thing when things you think might be an emergency while flying a large plane look @ your watch & count to 3 then asses the situation.

  • i was on the plane before. if i was on this plane i would have commit suicide when we took off.

  • Concord looks so pretty

  • i smell FRIED CHICKENS

  • Mam what wii wiil eat??

    chichen i think\

    !

  • you can always count on the captain to keep calm, bet his arse fell out tho when the engine began to pulse lol great video and shows how well trained these guys are and how safe the planes are to be able to fly and land on only 1 engine.,

  • Im supprised he was able to land so soon, being heavy with fuel and only one engine

  • In mother Russia, bird fly you

  • Great commas. Very clear, calm. Textbook!

  • i hope the bird is ok...

  • @tjorvenxD0o01ste I hope to ....!

  • @tjorvenxD0o01ste

The bird just got sucked into a RB-211.........

    He should be fine :D

  • @tjorvenxD0o01ste LoL O__O i think he'll be alright....

  • @tjorvenxD0o01ste hahahahahahaha!!!!

  • bird injestion append more often than u think guys! But its not avery time a big bird.. A chicken or a pigeon are totally desintegrated most of time... A fat goose for example and it blows the engine for sure! The only thing we have to remind is that pilots are trained, and any plane is able to fly with one engine... Still possible without engine, just need enough altitude to keep it's speed enough to land somewhere close around...

  • thats what you get for being a bird... dead.

  • :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD happy ending!

if i was on that plane i would likely feinght from exiety! ;DD

  • these plaine should heve no take off if the engines is on fire , better to stay on the grounds i think ;-)

  • @marshalllucky He was comitted - past V2 - and in no way would he have been able to get her back down on the deck!

  • thats ultimate duckhunt .... with an ultimate win-dance ,,,,, and at the end the duck goes like ... duff duff duff duff duff duff duff ... ^^

  • poor bird :(

  • bird strike ? i think it was a bird execution

  • How does that thing fly on one engine!!??

  • @badasssky Its a kind of magic.........

  • @Factnotfictionpeople haha i think i'd rather 747 with 4 engines/3 back ups

  • @badasssky rather f-16, and blast the bird bvr o.O

  • @jarand4 yeah, ok man.

  • @badasssky They're designed too.. And hopefully the plane wasn't packed with heavy items to the maximum.. And the pilot..

  • :O i think i saw the concorde!!!

  • the pilot must be great .... i dont want to know how it feels if you would sit in this plan

as a passanger or as pilot ...... Hooooorrribbbbllllleeeeeee !!!!!!!!

  • funny how a lone bird can fod out an engine

  • is he flying here just on 1 engine?

  • @MrPersecutor1 according to dispatchers `...still must be run` he flying with 2 engines

  • Well done!

  • I hope he got above V2 before that happened...good work on the part of the pilot. He had a compressor stall....good thing he shut that engine down.

  • WARNING- Incoming enemy aircraft. RELEASE THE BIRDS!

  • @winterka100 LOL...

  • @winterka100 haha

  • @winterka100 target anihilated, return to base

  • @winterka100 Great idea , love it.

  • That's why birds must never enter the airfield. Birdstrikes can cause fatalities at TO and land

  • Of course :D every one millon peieces of the bird is fine. theyre thanks :D XD

  • did the poor bird survived?

  • @Jprojasw NO lol

  • @Jprojasw what a question.

  • Looks like a rocket booster

  • @TrekkerMan1701

Reminds me of "spaceship" on the old B&W Flash Gordon show

  • who cares about the plane that poor bird, imagine the birds family "im sorry but your father and your husband was eaten by a plane" those poor baby birds

  • @glittergirl4funXx Are you actually being serious!!

  • @willpenny7 yes of coarse i am!

have you ever heard of sarcasm

  • i hope the bird was OK

  • @reconforsales he wasent he died

  • fwee five zero?

  • I CAN SEE CONCORDE

  • @chang0o89 why they stop useing concorde in 2003

  • animal abuse.

  • Excellent and professional reaction both by pilots and ATC

  • that would be a little scary if you were one of the passengers on board and you see fire coming out of the engine lol

  • oh yeah, no big deal, the right engine is on fire, but no big deal.

  • I am afraid it is a big deal: it is a engine´s failure just on take off, when the plane is rotating, fire on engine, associated vibrations, etc. Both pilots and ATC cope with the issue very professionnaly, but yet,,, it is a bid deal...

  • i hope that pilot received a bonus!

  • @bobert1208 yeah, they should give him a free candy bar at the gift shop... he earned it

  • @bobert1208:

    Why??

He just did his job. He is trained to do that ;)

  • @akbas12 because many pilots would lock up. he executed his situation well, and stayed calm. its harder than you think flying a plane with an engine failure.

  • @specops3866 That's right, but bringing the aircraft safely back to the ground is the pilots job! If you cant stay calm in an emergency, then you should not be a pilot.

  • @akbas12 theres been many instances where pilots ended up crashing an airplane, with engine failures and similiar circumstances. All I am saying is this pilot is pretty damn good.

  • @specops3866 No he is not damn good! He is trained to do that, and just did his job.

  • @akbas12

    blablablabla

    fuck of

    he is damn good:p

  • @akbas12

    blablabla

    trained this and that

    he is fucking good:P Basta

U can train many things but he did a great job. Trained or not

  • @bobert1208 If you talk to him he will go on about it

  • @bobert1208 en nu nederlands?

  • All the little guys looking into the intake like "This thing is totally fucked."
