omg i havent heard these dudes without stan; after the opening guitar riff i was like nice this is gonna sound good then the duran wannabe chimed in. still like it but its not close to the original
Andy Prieboy is a Genius..don't worry mate, i was there in the corner at Port Leagues in the 90's (australia) and you gave it your all...I ALONE appreciated that..if no one else even knew who's presence they were in...ian chafer-prodigal sons
The original Wall of Voodoo is one of the most under-rated bands in history. But not this version of them. WOV without Stan is like The Doors without Jim. I do dig this song though. :-)
It's a shame Prieboy doesn't get more recognition... he's a rare talent.
Both of his solo LPs, "...Upon My Wicked Son" and "Sins Of Our Fathers" come highly recommended - not to mention the newer stuff you can get on his site.
This is the first time I've come across a video interveiw with Chas T. Gray. Everytime I try to find something about him on the net, the only stuff that I find are updates on Stan or Andy. I know Bruce M. has a MySpace page with updates (which are nice..& slightly eerie at the same time). I wish I could find more on Chas T. Gray though :(. He was in The Skulls, WOV, & Nervous WO Gender, but afterward he dropped off into obscurity behind the scenes somewhere in the film industry (I think).
Wall of Voodoo Rock! I wish their back catalogue was available in Australia. This song has always stuck with me since l heard it on the radio as a young boy.
I guess I'm kind of a "purist" when it comes to WOV, but this song stuck in my head, I'm gonna have to go look for my dusty old cassette of this album, I liked "Blackboard Sky" off it as well.
It says on Wikipedia that Mexican radio was there only hit ever. But today I went to the shops and saw an 80's compilation DVD with this song on it. But I'm Australian maybe the Band was more popular over here than in the US.
This song is in my top 100. That might not sound so good, but if you appreciate I have thousands of songs I appreciate, my top 100 is a very selective batch indeed.
....one more thing, I have the 12-inch single of 'Far Side of Crazy' whichit includes my favorite ever Voodoo song, 'Dance you F*ckers!', which would make for a priceless extra track on any Wall of Voodoo re-release!
I loved Stan Ridgeway, but the Prieboy version of the band worked for me as well. I saw them on this tour back in 1980-something and they were great. I wish ANY version of this band would reform, although the late Marc Moreland would be sorely missed. His Spaghetti-Western style guitar work was pretty effin' cool! Now, if ANYONE would just re-release 'Dark Continent', as well as THIS on CD, all will be right with the world!
Ned Leukhardt (drums/percussion) is now living in Oslo Norway. Playing in a band called: Toini & the Tomcats. He also have a restaurant in Oslo, named: Mucho Mas. Serving Great Mexican food.
I never heard this song until about an hour ago. Awesome lyrics. I keep replaying the line "..can't stay a boy in no man's land." That line has a lot of meaning. Excellent song.
I though WoV was dead when Stan left. Then I saw them live in Paso Robles, CA. After that, I decided Andy Prieboy was better than Stan. Harder, edgier, cooler, just generally more badass. Seven Days in Sammystown is WoVs best album.
What the hell is this? Were they trying to be like that pussymetal band RATT after Stan left? This is not the WOV I came to dig. WOV is not WOV without the throbbing synth work. Prieboy was such a genius that WOV with him as frontman has more fans than with Stan as frontman? I think not.
Hey Racer. My reaction the first time I heard the new lineup of WOV was the exact same as yours here. Now, I gotta tell you, I'm as big a WOV fan as anyone. Were they better with Stan? I think so. But if you manage to get a hold of any of this later lineup, they were also great in their own way. "Blackboard Sky", "Wrong Way to Hollywood" and "Tragic Vaudeville" are outstanding and highly underrated songs. Not the same WOV, but worth checking out.
love youtube for this kind of videos :)))) but still, I think I'm swtiching to GAGLA dot com, its got videos and cool profile editing features, you guys should check it out....

Well, as soon as Ridgeway left, everything went downhill. Is this a hairband? Hard to tell. Maybe the plan was to replace accomplished songwriting with styling mousse.
Excellent, but I think he's full of crap. I grew up near Bullhead City and I've never heard of Sammystown. And of course, they did another Bullhead City gag a few years later on "The Ugly Americans"...I remember checking the B.C. phonebook looking for Big Joe's Bar & Grill or wherever that was supposed to be recorded. It didn't exist, and of course it was later revealed that the Bullhead stuff was leftover studio tracks made to sound live.
What a flashback - where on earth did this come from?! thank you so much. One of my all time favourite songs and albums. I was just reading somewhere else that Far Side of Crazy was written by Andy Prieboy about the crazyman John Hinkley and the poems he wrote Jodie Foster.
I remember only one time, that I´ve seen this video on German TV it was a show called "Formel 1" and i bought the single. It´s just laying here next to me and I remember to great times and the b-side wrong way to hollywood.
The intro was used beautifully in a rather unsung little film (IMO) titled Head Office w/ Judge Reinhold, Rick Moranis, Danny Devito, etc. I have always heard that guitar twang when walking down the street in a trench coat.
I remember this album and it had a lot of good tracks on it..I went looking for the CD and I don't think there is one. Anyone know where I could get a copy or mp3?
It's all good. This album rocks ( makes a great driving cd ). Stan's solo work is solid. And all the early work rocks. I'd rather listen to any titles from WOV than any of the new rock groups.
I haven't seen this in so long... cool to see The Old Trapper Motel again... If I remember correctly, Marina del Rey from Vivabeat, another band from the time produced it... Great clip!!!
It was the summer of 89 and both W0V with Andy and Stan alone were playing LA. Only then could you hear TWO versions of red light and back in flesh. They fought about who wrote what song. Andy's quite a songwriter in his own right. Thanks! Hellione are you out there?
