Interesting, I used this same method in Blender. But I wasn't able to make the ball look good because Blender has a big issue: it distorts the hexagons and pentagons it creates with Bevel modifier (probably because it doesn't support N-gons)... I see there that Modo can do it pretty consistently. I wish Blender could do the same... :\
@donttalkcrap Many (if not most) sport ball designs are based on icosahedrons or variants of it. You would never achieve a perfect looking golf ball in Modo (or any other program, for that matter) without tesselating it. :)

Maybe even a tutorial on creating the golfball in either Silo or Cheetah?
