I just used your recipe. Instead of crab meat, I used bacon. It was simply delish. I've been craving potato soup but never knew how to make it. It was so simple. Thanks Mrs. Stokes for bringing delicious potato soup into my home.
I have the worst luck with roux, mebbe doing that'll help. Usually, either the flour tastes raw, or the butter burns the flour. The best advice I ever had was to lightly toast the roux, then add the butter, sorta stirring until it melts. Then cool it and add it later to the sauce. Trying this, was the only way I got it to really do it's job (thicken the sauce), otherwise, I got a burnt mess that stuck to the bottom of the pan, or the sauce tasted like flour and wouldn't thicken.
@thooker144 Put butter in a cold pan and let it heat uop gradually, then add same amount of flower, set to low and constantly mixh it for 4-5 minutes... and thats it :)
I love your videos! I am from Maryland and we know seafood...this reminds me of cream of crab soup (without the old bay seasoning ) lol. Great job and keep the video's coming!
This recipe looks pretty cool. I posted a video for a Creamy Cajun Soup on my page. It didn't have potatoes though. I might try that next time. Go to my channel and check out my video when you get a minute.
Yummy again but you still didn't answer my question about coming to the Stokes' for dinner - wink wink jk :-)) As a matter of fact, it's on the stove right now
Mmmmm this looks divine. I am going to get the ingredients right now to try this out on my husband tonight. I hope he will like it. I will let you know and I may even do a video response. lol Thanks for the recipe.
i really really love your recipes...you tought me how to cook Asparagus and let me tell you...i really love to eat them all the time..like a single guy i like to learn recipes and surprise my friends...YOU REALLY NEED A SHOW ON TV..PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE HER A SHOW :-)
And one more thing - thanks for making a GOOD recipe. So many out there today think cooking with rich ingredients is taboo anymore...it's so not. It's called moderation!
Thanks again! We surely feel that this is normal cooking too. It's not that much more work to have a meal that is really great and that your family really enjoys eating.
We have a fantastic macaroni and cheese video and recipe. The video ID is watch?v=jSbRCWM3WHM For your reference it was added on February 01, 2009. You can also find the recipe on our website Cajun Cooking TV .Thanks for watching!
Hi, thank you for your note. Half and half is probably something like half milk and half cream. Heavy cream is probably just called cream in your country. Like milk before they skim off the butter fat. Thanks for watching our videos!
Hi everybody!Somebody can tell me what haf&haf mean?I am from Romania and we don't have anything call haf&haf.I supose it is something like a rich milk(we have 3%)and what is havy cream?I don't know if it's corect havy cream and haf&haf....sorry!!!I love yout recipes!!!!I just did pasta with alfredo sos and was super super deliciouse!I can't belive I did it!!!!
Thanks! Beryl is doing up a brownie recipe soon. We just don't do much deserts, we eat to much of the main dish to have room for it, lol. Thanks for watching our videos!
Oops, my comment must not have posted the first time I watched this. This is an excellent recipe! The treat at the end was definitely a treat. We can get some nice crabmeat here in Maryland.

@thooker144 The main thing about roux is that you can't rush it.
