What if I cant count while playing like 1 2 3 4. And I am just feeling beat... like speaking to my self it but without words... like B c K sksk B k c, like hearing it and creating it from imagination. Is that good or bad. I have played Drum a couple of times and friends saying that it was good. Should i learn to count or continue feeling it like this. Becoz some beggining bands invited me.

well, as long as you can read music it should be fine. however, if you are going to go only by feel, I would suggest tapping your left foot as u play. just lift your ball of your foot up and down on the hi hat pedal.

You can learn things yourself with your own counting, but you are using words other musicians don't know. While it may benefit you to use your own unique system, it will prevent a roadblock when trying to relay your ideas to other musicians

@McMolot actually, if you can hold a beat, your are in a sense counting. If you can seriously play a solid beat then u r counting man. Ok, so your not putting numbers to the beats of the measure and u perceive it differently, but its not possible to hold a beat without some form of counting thats maybe even subconcious and may not even be with numbers.

@McMolot I did it by counting in the beginning. But after a while you just get a feel for it.
