  • thanks for posting this &hearts, ! i dont have a microwave

is there another way to Melting soap ?

  • @goldendiana Sure u can use a double boiler system, just take

stainless steel pot add some water in it umm just enough to go up 1/3 of the way then put a heat safe glass measuring cup into it with the amount of mp soap u want to melt. Melt well do not go above 150 degrees u will burn it, add your color, your scents mix well and pour into a mold or just use a reqtangle topaware. let cool put in the frig. for like 5 mins. and unmold, and cut it to any size u want and enjoy. hope this helps.

  • I never get my M&P soap from hobby stores. If you check the ingredients not all M&P soaps are made the same. You can get better qualities on line. The better and purer the product, the better your soap. I can agree with you it's a good place to start, but once you get started and if you're serious, move on.

  • As far as Michaels is concerned, i don't know about where you are, but here in Chicago the MP bases are really bad quality. They are very harsh, don't carry scent well, and many people complain of breakouts. My suggestion would be to find a quality base online is possible. Only buy a small quantity, and start from there.

  • The whole thing is that the ingredients for some of the mp bases you find are kind of iffy. IMO handmaking soap is about creating a better product than what is usually offered in a store. As far as just starting out to see if soapmaking is something you want to do, I would agree that local hobby stores are a good place to start to limit the costs of starting the hobby. Particularly if you just want to do it for yourself and not a business.

  • Why isn't a local hobby shop a good place to get M&P supplies? My first soap venture was M&P soaps. I was watching some late night program about homemade beauty products. The very next morning I went to a local place, Joann's (a fabric store!) and they had everything I wanted to get going quickly. Now I do CP soaps and buy all my supplies via the internet, but local hobby shops are a great place to start.

  • In Scottsdale, Arizona it is. Any better suggestions? -- The Lady
