  • That is terrible form. I can't believe you made this an instructional how-to. At the start, you showed proper form, but then when you got into it (before you put a plate on) you started moving your ass back and forth like you were getting railed by a Tijuana tranny. Try less weight next time hotshot. This isn't a competition, it's a how-to video.

  • Or use the rope, he forgot to mention to maintain a 90 degree angle at the knee (which he doesn't do).

    And he's using a plyometric method to pull it down and not getting a proper eccentric contraction. Is this guy qualified to be giving advice?

  • Hay Scott, as I was watching this cool video, I realized that for folk who work out at home, & who use those setups that use surgical tubing/exercise tubing that fasten to a door, they too can perform this exercise, & just need to add more tubes to increase the weight. Keep up the great work. 

  • how do u do this without giving any discomforting pressure to the elbows? i tried this at the gym today and it seemed like it was very bad for you elbow joints. i must be doing it the wrong way. how do you do this with correct form?

  • @xxmsp91 try keeping ur arms in a fixed postion and let your abs do the pulling u down  and dont use such heavy weight when ur first trying this

  • Ever thought of using a rope attachment instead of a heavy bar behind the neck? Even if there is no risk gravity acting directly against your spine, there is the momentum/inertia of a bar + potentially more than entire bodyweight being pulled directly into it.

    In short, I do the same exercise but with a rope attachment because I think its much safter on the neck as well as being easier to handle naturally compared to a fixed bar.

  • I can answer this question, & its actually a good question. Different things we do can effect our somatic nervous system in different ways, the somatic nervous system is part of our peripheral nervous system, which is divided into the autonomic & somatic, the later which is responsible for coordinating the body movements, and also for receiving external stimuli, but sometimes external stimuli such as eating, sex, exercise, etc can have unexpected results such as a hard on during exercise.

  • I get a runny nose when I eat, some people sweat when they eat, even when its Ice cream, & its cold outside. Some people sneeze during or soon after sex, etc, these are all because the central nervous system is being stimulated by the activity but responds in a way that is different than most people, its nothing anyone should make fun of or be embarrassed by. The fact someone would make fun of it simply shows their ignorance & immaturity.

  • This exercise is really good but you need correct form so you wont hurt your back. Scott is an expert. I will try this only after a couple of months of lifting weights.

  • I tried this one today, and for some reason I couldnt seem to find it very effective? possibly my form ? i used the rope rather than an easy curl bar, i dont know wether this could be why?

  • These are cable crunches and also one of my favorite abs builders. In gymnastics I did hanging knee raises with a dumbbell between my knees and in wrestling discovered the machine crunch and these cable crunches. Great way to build muscle to take punches. I definitely recommend them.

  • Great video, always inspired by your techniques. Sometimes I do abs at home, could I utilize the same principle of this exercise by using resistance bands tied from the ceiling? I assume it won't be as resistive as that 45Ib plate you used, but would it be adequately close to a low rep, high weight ab workout? Thanks!

  • you can. but you are not getting a full range of motion. your missing 30 degrees (flexion at spine actually goes past parallel)

  • depends on the machine. there are different kinds. most machines i have seen don't go past parallel either though. if you want bigger abs, train for hypertrophy. scott says aim for 30 reps in the video, thats too much if you want size. if you want large abs, train for 8-12 reps believe it or not. 30 reps trains slow twitch fibers.

  • i usually don't do this with the arch but it makes sense! fuller range of motion. i like to to crunches on a fit ball because it goes 30 degrees in the extension plane.
