nice vid i subbed i use a 7 foot heavy duckett for heavy cover pitching like im talking the cover is and whats around me i dont want my rod hitting everything everytime i pitch thats still got enough leverage to hall out the fish to i use it for close flipping not average flipping but im gonna end up with three pitching rods and i have to of them a 7'2" medium heavy a 7' heavy and a 7'6" medium heavy but not sure about the 7 6 yet but probobly on my 7 heavy the duckett 65 pound braid with a 2
65 lbs line? not trying to question you, but i caught some big bass myself and i thought 40 lbs line was excessive, why are you using such strong line?
JP! you need to be my boat captain for my federation state tournament we get to pick our captains, doubt you actually could haha would be awesome though!
@Zowens188 : That is the Mossyback BCFR894C... I also use the GLX version. The main difference is really in the weight and power of the rod but I still feel the Mossyback is a phenomenal choice.
@shimanofishn : Yes, 65 lb straight to the jig... the only thing I do since I'm using Yellow braid is color the last 4 to 6 feet with a black permanent marker.
@GettingSchoold honestly, I think when a bass sees a lure it would eat it regardless the line and visibility. Because i've messed around with lots of line and had about equal results.
I would like something a little more multipurpose. I like fishing a lot but I definitely don't have all money to buy all the equipment that you have (I watch your videos a lot, and I see you using all kinds of rods and reels). I would appreciate any advice that you can give me. BTW I really liked your video about frog fishing in the shallows. that was the video that got me started into fishing. I wanna go to a similar place and try the same thing.
@Vallecaucanisimo : The rod that I flip with works well for frogging as well... 7'4" to 7'6" Medium Heavy, Fast Action is probably the best multipurpose Largemouth rod for flipping, punching matt, Texas Rigging, Frogging, you can even Carolina Rig with it and throw big swimbaits in a pinch... for a multi purpose reel I would pick a 6.2:1 or 7:1 gear ratio.
I really like your videos, I am very inexperienced when it comes to fishing and I watch your videos because I think they are very well explained and go to the point without bragging about your catch. In fact, they got me into fishing. However I must ask you a couple of things, first how come you never use a spin casting reel? Also, although I know that you have and want nothing but the best equipment, and that fishing is expensive. Can't you recommend a "do it all" fishing rod, or reel?
@Vallecaucanisimo : Spincast reels are inefficient, have horrible drags and don't handle thicker lines well at all. I only use Baitcasting or Spinning reels. Baitcasting for 12 lb test or more, spinning for 10 lb test or less. You can buy lifetime warranty rods from a company like Shimano from $50 all the way to $400... they obviously get lighter and more sensitive as you go up in price but for the $125 mark you can find a great rod in the Compre line.
@GettingSchoold Now that was the answer I was looking for. Thanks! and please keep on uploading videos like this. I can't wait for the spring to star fishing again. BTW, it would be great if you upload some videos reviewing certain products. I would like to hear about hot buys or a particular accessory that you think is necessary. You obviously buy fishing equipment more often than I do. It would be nice to know what to avoid and what is worth the money.
Nice video JP! You definitely know how to hook em hard! Holy Crap man you basically could of jerked the fish out of the water and have it going right towards you! LOL Anyways, do you like to use jigs with light wire or heavy wire hooks. I was looking at the Hack Attack jig by Strike King, but I didn't know if a heavy wire hook is good for all situations.
@Bassfanatic94 : Whenever fishing heavy cover I like the heavy wire hooks but you really have to up your rod power to at least Medium Heavy to get that hook through them with consistency... The Hack Attack has a strong heavy wire hook made for just that. I have been using a lot more of the 2X strong smaller jig hooks like Mustad and Gamakatsu make on my homemade jigs 3/0 & 4/0... the other thing I rely on is a flat eye hook, especially when fishing wood... comes through the cover best.

Were you using a Loomis Mossyack or GLX? I'm looking to buy one or the other, but I need to know if the extra $150 is worth it.
