@hodgieDUBSTEP for the ps3 version, you need to beat the game to unlock the DLC that's included (I'm not exactly sure on the requirements, but I know you have to play the game to unlock it).

for the 360 version, you need to download it with the code that's included, but when you do, you can play it whenever you want without first clearing the main game.

@hodgieDUBSTEP as far as I know, capcom decided to put in the DLC on disc in the ps3 version probably because a blu-ray disc has enough room for added content. as for the requirements to unlock said DLC, I do not know since I do not have that version, or RE5 gold edition in general (not even for the 360, I just can't find it anywhere, so I settled for the regular game for now).

there's a reason why there are no used copies of RE5 gold edition for the 360 and there are plenty for the ps3.

@DjStiv3 do you even know your release dates? "lost in nightmares" came out on february 17 for the 360 (the next day for ps3) and "desperate escape" came out on march 3 for the 360 (the day after for the ps3).

the actual RE5 gold edition (both versions) came out on march 9, clearly after all the DLC had come out.
