"She existed. I saw her in a certain village years ago, when I was a young travelling worker. I fell in love with her, but did not know she was mentally ill. I found out soon and felt the right thing to do was leaving the place. She lost her husband on sea and couldn’t handle it. When I read she was dead, I recalled her story. Some of the text is fiction, bust mostly it’s true. The text is about her - and all the other women who have lost husbands, brothers and sons to the ocean.”
what is this song about? i cant find a good translation, and is there any similar good songs like this from iceland? (must excuse if my english seems weird, im norwegian)
I was together with a girl from Iceland that loved this song, it also made a deep impact on me personally, and I many times have to go back to listen to this song, it reminds me of her and how much I loved her, despite the lyrics wich are pretty sad...
Each time I listen to the song, I realize how much I really do love my old love Kristin, even tho she is not around me anymore, and either will she ever be again...
hehe, "fött"- has nothing to do with "born" or to give a birth - it means that the "girl" stands there strait, with her body strait and her head a little bit bent backward. She is "Fött" :) Only four letters, do not have a english word for this. I´m Icelandic.
@LubbiGunn most of bubbi's songs are about real situations or events, like for an example Rómeo og Júlía is about two drug adiccts and Hægt andlát 14 ára stelpu (slow death of a 14 year old girl) is about a 14 year old girl who got raped by four guys a party. they all confessed but were found not guilty, and in happend in Iceland just a few years ago
Why is someone talking about whales here, Who cares about some whales you wont ever see anyway, Americans cant talk about killing, cause wales arent the same as people! And also, Bubbi is good :P .. uff, and also Gordon B. is a motherfucker!
The irony is unbelievable. Americans criticizing a small peaceful nation that has environmentalism at it´s heart since it lively hood depends on it. Maybe one day America will stop polluting the world and the whales can sing together and dance, that is what you think they do? MORONS!!
Iceland has the highest education rate per people in the world. We are one of the leading countries in environment issues. The whales are not in extinction danger in the northern sea. And if you are from USA then this might interest you that USA fishing ships kill more whales than any other country combine. And they also destroy their ecosystem. We have rules about how many whales we can hunt and we hold the size of the stock steady. Sorry for my bad English. great song by the way.
@sesar92 Oh Awful...Here in Argentina we have our see with a surface of 1,000,000 km².USA, England,Finland,China,Japan etc. are killing our whales and ecosystem too...
It's fucking annoying that a stupid git like you thinks that anyone takes this babble seriously. I'm here to watch the video, not hear some shit about whaling.
why on earth don't you stop criticizing us for it i mean we arenðt the only one who does it Faroe islands japan so start buggin them not us and i mean we hunt so few whales i mean how many animals have been complitly anhialated by some fucks from europe or america and let me just let you know i think that you are from us of a if so how many people does your government kill each year plush we aren't just killing them for the fun of it have you ever tasted whale meat it is delicious so fuck off
Oh okay :) now I know, just guessed it meant the same since both icleandic and swedish come from old norse and that is the exact spelling of the swedish word
@notblondeswede inte allt i svenska och isländska er likt, för exempel ordet fött :P Det betyder en helt annan sak på isländska, tror att några andra här har redan förklarat vad det egentligen betyder ^^
Greatest song ever it gives me chills every time !!!! does anyone know where to get tabs for this song? i am living in america but born and raised in iceland grindavik... plz someone help......GO BUBBI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To get it for free, download real player,, and than go back to this song and do " Download Video",, Than you can listen to it over and over without using internet.
he is singing about the love of his three legged goat ,which, one day, slips its collar and makes haste to town. Hungry and sex starved, said animal runs amoc with a local herd of pedigree sheep. Needless to say , the sheperd is fuming! He grabs hold of yon troubadoor and demands retribution.Have me, have me, cries the singing Beau Brummel, no,no,I want that goat! cries the shepard , give him a chance mate, says the singer,he's just had ten sheep. In the final verse all is well.
this song is written about a girl that got so high on drugs that she somehow came to believe that her husband (a sailor) had drowned on a fishing boat. She ran into the ocean and drowned herself. Her husband was well and ok, it was just the drugs. The singer was on a gigg in the town when it happened and wrote this song about it, but the text is like has allready been said but the story about it is as i just told.
The only thing I understand from this song is "hafið" but the voice reminds me of the way certain French chanson singers and Spanish troubadours sing... I love the voice...also, the simplicity of the music that can only but to enhance just about enough the story told in the lyrics (which is usually the most important thing)... I just wish I could understand what he's singing about... which, I'm guessing has something to do with the sea.
It's about a man who gets a bad job and a small room in a small town and one day he sees a local woman standing and staring at the ocean, he sees her dancing. Each night she's on the cliffs looking at the sea. Her eyes are green and deep and stare into the ocean. He is told her husband drowned, a fisherman.
She cries looking into the waves. The man in the small room can't stop thinking about her and falls in love. He leaves the small town but thinks of her when he hears another boat has sunk.
no problem, it's not literal of course but I didn't have enough space to type the whole thing literally - maybe I'll do it later in several segments if I get some downtime

Why does Iceland continue to kill whales?
-They do it in a pathetic attempt to hold onto the past so that they can continue to identify with their bloody legacy of whaling.
-It is a blood sport to them and a way of indulging in the sadistic pleasure of killing whales and thumbing their noses at other nations.
-Killing whales is the pursuit of little people with small minds with a lust to destroy creatures more intelligent and more beautiful than themselves.

Fött is an word for having a bent back, for being stooped.
